The president of your country is hated and protested in virtually every country he visits. Why do you suppose that is? Is it because we were attacked on 9/11? Is it because we are against the terrorism that we and many other countries have experienced? Is it because we freed the Iraqi people to live in peace and democracy? Does everyone just hate Americans? What could possibly account for the angry reactions the rest of the countries have during a visit by a U.S. President? Was it always this way or is there just something special about George W. Bush? I invite supporters of this administration to help me see the light. What do you think about all these angry world citizens?
In the case of South America they need to worry more about their own miserable leaders such as: Bush will be gone soon...and compared to some of the tin pot whackos he is mother theresa **got a chance to use my new PS of Chavez
In the case of S America, it's my understanding that Chavez organized the protests and followed the President around. Notice nobody brings up the commitment to share alternative fuel technologies between the US and Brazil (a leader in said alternative fuels) you know, what with all the global warming, dependence on foreign oil (leading to funding of terrorism and economic instability plus the aforementioned global warming)... no, let's talk about the fact that Chavez a Bush hater and leader of a major oil producing country made every effort to distract the world from the purpose of the President's trip... looks like he did a damn good job.
If it only happened in Latin America, I'd be suspicious. It happens in every country he visits. Does Chavez have influence that stretches that far? You can't blame all of our problems on some nut in South America when we have a much more likely suspect right here at home. ¿Comprende? :goof:
Chavez is a leader who reacts to situations more than initiates his own activities. He continuously finds ways to get at the Bush administration for no other purpose than to draw attention. He couldn't even control himself long enough to make an intelligent bid for the UN seat. He visited Vietnam last year supposedly to 'unite' with his socialist/communist sympathizers but unfortunately hasn't been keeping up with current events in Asia. Having said that, Chavez finds fertile ground in South America for whipping up anti-US sentiment, its important to look at the history of many S Am countries, the majority spent many years under useless corrupt leaders who turned deaf ears to the masses and have become equivalent to 'imperialists', a role that people easily equate with Bush. Even though Chavez has yet to offer material improvement to people in his own country, the rhetoric (and the petroleum gifts) go a long way to keeping him popular all over S America.
When was the last time a United States President or Vice Presdent visited South America and there were no protests. As for nation states outside the latin american dictatorship sphere, remember Clinton had those riots in Greece. Not that I meant that as an anti-Clinton post for it was not intended as such. The vast majority of protests made against any American President has been manufactured by the same government that they are visiting or by entities such as the international communist party which used to be funded by the soviet union but is now funded by american business men as a form of trying to change American policy when US policy goes against their financial interests as well as the middle east which would want to embrasses and dethrone the United States by any means possible.
Perhaps we would have seen massive protests against Reagan had he taken more trips, to places other than World War II memorials, the Berlin Wall, and Thatcher's pad.
America's foreign policy is a failure, and has been for quite a long time now. Until we make the change from interventionism to non-interventionism, this will continue regardless of the man and the party. If people riot, things probably aren't right. If people cheer and throw flowers, we're probably giving away the store, and that isn't right either. When an American president visits a foreign country and nobody cares or notices, then you will know that we have just about struck the correct balance.
I wouldn't call the foreign policy a failure. A clarification of the present global political situation, but not a failure. I'd simply state other countries have begun to show their true colors more clearly so-to-speak. True unveiled intentions surfacing. Many would much rather know who their nation's friends and enemies were without having to beat around the bush.
We are a world power. If we stop being one then we are on the way of ceasing to exist independently and slowly merge into what has become of France today. Who would have thought 100 years ago that the streets of Paris would be on fire and the government would have been afraid to react. In another 100 years France may even have a new name. So much for the Franks. So it is in the interests of those who want our wealth or wish to end christianity or democracy on the planet to undermine us in the hope of creating erosion not so much with our standing in the world but the way we think about ourselves at home.
Men are predators by nature. If one forgets that the human race has the hunter's drive then one will become the prey. It is best to accept one's nature, understand one's enemy, look into one's soul and deal with it the best means possible.
