From what I saw last night on Sean Hannity it's Israel. Yes I was actually watching it last night. It didn't take long to hurt but he made me think. The thought was basically "really? Israel? and why?" My second thought was "how many people are just automatically buying into this because that's how they're programmed?" If you think I'm anti-Israel I'm not. If you think I'm anti -Jew I'm not. It goes back to the simple question. Why is Israel our best ally? What have they actually done for us recently? What have they done for us even not so recently? Let's see.... Netanyahu was here not too long ago trying to undermine our President because he doesn't like how he's doing things. Really, that's it in a nutshell when it come to Netanyahu. If you don't like that please tell me which other leaders of any of our ALLIES have pulled such a stunt. Yet Israel is our best ally. Perhaps they are but Netanyahu certainly isn't. I can understand his concern. After all, Israel is much closer to Iran than we are. So are all of the other countries involved in the recent agreement with Iran. Definitely a few countries there who's way of politics I don't agree with. China an Russia leap to mind but somehow we all pulled together on this issue. We were all imposing sanctions weren't we? But Netanyahu disagrees and Israel is our best ally after all. Our best ally. I disagree.
Well said, clembo. For a summary of the agreement, as well as a summary of the overwhelmingly positive response to it by the World community, visit the Wikipedia article on the subject, found here.
As erudite as you pretend to be, your question surprises me. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/uks-david-cameron-helps-obama-urge-congress-against-iran-sanctions-bill/ http://www.politico.com/story/2015/01/iran-sanctions-obama-cameron-114333.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pol...obbying-effort-fails-to-sway-Republicans.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...sanctions-Obama-tells-Congress-hold-fire.html et al
Why does America give Israel billions of $$$ a year? Why isn't that $$$ a loan? Why is America increasing it's debt for Israel's benefit? Why don't they assume that debt?
The statement was about the leader of a nation that is an ally of the US making a speech that was intended to undermine a policy of the president of the US. You've cited a leader of another nation whose action was intended to do the exact opposite. Your example is ridiculous. To be clear, I think that Congress had every right to invite Netanyahu to make an address, no matter that it was a slap in the face to President Obama, just as the president had every right to ask Cameron to make some phone calls to members of Congress.
I got it loud and clear. It is perfectly alright for a foreign leader to try to persuade Congress to a point of view that you agree with, but he is our enemy if he tries to persuade Congress to a point of view you disagree with. Both were trying to do exactly the same thing, it just seems you disagree with one of them.
Your misrepresentation of my position is truly comical. 1) I have not said that I disagree with Netanyahu's position. The fact is that I understand that he thinks he's doing what is necessary for the security of his country. 2) In the paragraph that you somehow overlooked I stated in unequivocal terms that both instances of foreign leaders addressing the US Congress were acceptable, in my opinion. I'd suggest you stop lying, but that would leave you with nothing to say.
Oh! My! I wonder where I got that idea. ..... under the topic; Regardless of your agreement or disagreement with Netanyahu's actions (or Cameron's or Obama's), I still fail to see the difference between persuading Congress by phone or by speech.
I swear I thought you were going to say Donald Trump. I wish Israel no harm nor do I wish to support them. They should not be the largest recipient of US foreign aid. They are simply our ally so that we have an oil foothold in the Middle East. That is their purpose.
It doesn't have a thing to do with who's side he's on. It's how it was done (by Netanyahu). I fully expect, respect and look forward to what other leaders think of our polices as well as their citizens on our policies and decisions. It should be that way.
I would agree that it's Great Britain at this point. As for Israel being second I'm not so sure. However, I don't see anyone else really being a close second.
Both tried to persuade Congress to their views. Both were covered in the press. What difference does it make how they did it? Or is it that you agree with one and not the other?
Actually, I would think Canada would be ahead of the both of them. Other countries that come to mind would include Japan, South Korea, India, Taiwan, Germany, Poland, et al - assuming BO hasn't pissed them off too much.
