So, would you support the open carry petition, real or not, for the GOP convention this summer or would you not support it? I'll tell you right now, I definitely unequivocally support it for this one event. It would be hypocritical for Right-wingers not to support this petition. I'm willing to reverse my position on open carry for this one event. If you are willing to reverse your position on open carry for this one event, why or why not? What could go wrong? Just good guys with guns, right?

Guns at GOP convention petition tops 35K, Trump wants to study 'fine print'
    David M Jackson, USA TODAY 7 a.m. EDT March 28, 2016

A Change.org petition asking GOP leaders to allow open carry weapons at the Republican National Convention has gotten over 40,000 signatures.

Donald Trump says he wants to study a petition that calls for allowing the open carry of guns at the Republican convention this July in Cleveland.

While proclaiming himself "a very, very strong person for Second Amendment," the Republican front-runner told ABC's This Week that "I have not seen the petition. I want to see what it says. I want to read the fine print."

Posted on the website change.org, the petition of unknown origin notes that "though Ohio is an open carry state, which allows for the open carry of guns, the hosting venue -- the Quicken Loans Arena -- strictly forbids the carry of firearms on their premises." That "is a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk," said the petition that has more than 35,000 signers as of Sunday.

The other Republican presidential candidates -- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich -- have not commented on the open carry petition.

The name of the group purportedly behind the effort — Americans for Responsible Open Carry — does not appear anywhere else online and accepts online message only from networked supporters, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

According to the website cnet on Sunday, the petition may have been started by a group as satire.

"A blog called Hyperationalist has claimed responsibility.

He or she writes: "It just doesn't seem right that thousands of patriotic Republican good guys should be left totally unprotected by whatever bad guys might wish to do them harm. I mean forgodsake people, ISIS could show up to take out everybody in and around that building and they'd be sitting ducks. Sitting ducks, I tell you! There might even be a bad egg or two among the delegates."

Hyperationalist didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

However, his or her tweets since 2011 suggest that he's not exactly of the Republican cause. For example: "Win-win for the Trump people at last night's rally: a protester got beat up and a black guy got arrested. This was accompanied with the #NeverTrump hashtag."

The Ohio Republican Party said it was not aware of the petition, the Journal reported, nor was the host committee overseeing the convention, although it noted that the Secret Service, in conjunction with Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and state and federal authorities, is handling security for the event.

“They are coordinating and will be continuously refining security plans leading up to the national convention,” said Alee Lockman, a spokesperson for the Republican National Convention, the Journal says.

In 2012, firearms were banned by the Secret Service at the Republican convention in Tampa.

Ahh! Your cowardly response. How predictable. Come on! Man up for once in your pitiful life and give an opinion on the open carry petition. Would you support the open carry or not. Easy question that goes right to the heart of your gun-loving obsession.

I'm not fickle like you. I wholeheartedly support the Second Amendment. I also support a private entity's right to not allow firearms on its premises as is the case with the Quicken Loans Arena. Such a right does not interfere with the Second Amendment at all.

You neither support the Second Amendment nor a private entity's rights. You only support your own twisted ideals and your own idiotic agenda when it suits your needs. You're a pathetic, fat coward.

Quicken Loans Arena is a 501c3 non-profit with a Board that is appointed by elected officials of The City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. Private entity you say?

Isn't this pathetic rationalization of yours just another hypocritical way for you to avoid answering for the very uncomfortable reality that allowing guns into a large forum like a political convention is just stupid and shouldn't be allowed anywhere? Movie theaters, shopping malls, college campus', or any other event has just as much potential for gun violence so the only reason that Republicans will not allow guns at their convention has nothing to do with Quicken Loans Arena policies and more to with the fact that they know their stupid rhetoric and insane gun policies. Cowards and hypocrites one and all.

Gun free zones are the most dangerous places in the country according to Republicans. They are not prevented by the Quicken Loan Arena policies from allowing participants to open carry. They absolutely have the clout to have that policy waived if they wanted to. Hiding behind something they claim is out of their hands is just a pathetic lie to cover up their blatant hypocrisy.

You big pussies! You should be demanding the right to carry guns to the convention. You are just sitting ducks for ISIS or Al Qaeda or Muslims of any kind just waiting to take you out. You need those guns to defend yourselves. Come on, the Second Amendment is clear on this. YOU have the right to bear arms. Don't give it up now. I support your cause 100%. GUNS! GUNS! GUNS! GUNS! GUNS! GUNS! GUNS!
GUNS! GUNS! GUNS! GUNS! GUNS! GUNS!

Good point Joe, somehow it's not an infringement on 2nd Amendment rights in this case. In every other case for the last decade the message has been that 2nd Amendment rights are not to be infringed upon.

I have absolutely no problem with anyone who wants to exercise his or her Second Amendment right. I also respect the right of the venue's administrators to allow or disallow firearms on its property. Sorry, but if the venue says "no firearms", then no firearms it is.

That point when you find out that the reality of your ideology is total bullshit in the real world and you just can't bring yourself back from the edge of the abyss.

GOP Convention Bans Guns Even Though They Denounce ‘Gun Free Zones’ – NRA Refuses To Comment

Last Updated on March 28, 2016

The Republican National Convention, despite being under pressure from a petition with more than 25,000 signatures now, has banned guns from its convention . This is despite the fact that they’re very supportive of gun rights, even supporting guns in schools to keep us safer. They’ve repeatedly said, after mass shootings, that shooters target gun-free zones and therefore, we shouldn’t have any. Yet, they will not have guns at their convention

Americans for Responsible Open Carry is the group that filed the petition , and it goes after the RNC and Quicken Loans Arena for their gun-free policy. Specifically, they want to know why the RNC would choose a venue for the convention that is, in their view, hostile to the 2 nd Amendment. It calls into question where the GOP stands on the issue of gun rights.

Oddly enough, they do make a point. Republicans—especially members of Congress like Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan, and presidential candidates like Ted Cruz—are strong 2 nd Amendment hawks. If a proposed bill has any chance at all of keeping one gun out of one person’s hands for even the best and most necessary of reasons, they don’t like it. But they sure don’t have a problem banning guns at their conventions.

What may be more interesting than that, though, is that the petition calls on the NRA for “an immediate condemnation of the egregious affront to the Second Amendment,” which refers to Quicken Loans Arena’s gun ban. However, there are crickets from the NRA on this right now – they haven’t said anything. One would think they’d be all over this, but they’re not. Like the GOP, their rhetoric doesn’t match their actions at all.

The hypocrisy is almost too much to take in. These people think it should be okay for teachers to carry guns at school, and for ordinary citizens to be able to bring their guns anywhere and everywhere, but have no problem with gun bans at their own conventions. There is always a very loud silence from them when they’re called on things like this.

The Secret Service banned guns at the GOP convention in 2012, and has said thatthey’re paying no attention to the petition. They will not go over the gun-free policy at Quicken Loans Arena. The petition calls for the convention to be moved to a more gun-friendly venue, but that’s not likely to happen, either.

The GOP and the NRA need to acknowledge a hard truth, which is that they know damned well that guns are dangerous and that’s why their conventions ban guns, and they’ve been wrong this whole time about gun-free zones. If they truly believed they were right, they’d insist that their venues all allow guns, that the Secret Service allow guns, and that everyone should feel free to bring their guns if they want.

The "law" is open carry in Ohio. All the name calling in world won't change that but if it makes you feel better to call people names when you are losing an argument, I support your inner child. Well, I support how hilarious it all sounds.
