A middleschool teacher get only 6 years for molesting 5 boys:

Do you think a man doing the same thing would get this kind of understanding:

Stories like this piss me off because crimes against males are treated as insignificant, not worth the time of society to even care.

Was this the blonde woman I saw on the news tonight? She was a kindergarten teacher?

Hard to say, I think a lot of men get off easy for this crap too.. cept for the other men in prison.. if they find out someones in for crimes against children, they better look out. A lot of em end up in protective custody wings.. I love Lock up on msnbc.

    eddo I don't like you.

I completely agree. There is a serious double standard at play.

Somehow, I believe if a woman had molested me when I was 14 it would have done me little harm.

I hear ya. I know its a double standard but I wish I was molested back then. It would've saved me a sock or two.

I still occasionally think about Miss Fiorino my home room teacher in 9th grade.

Our laws are either equal or their not.

The "potential" of harm is the same for any person, reguardless of sex.

Yes, boys are "supposed" to be tough or sexual machines but they are still children.

Weren?t your hormones running rampit when you were 14? And I remember having a major crush on my english teacher. I guess that might have been the problem though. Having sex with her and then her letting go later.

Believe me, girls have hormones going crazy also.

My thing is that the teen might have raging hormones, but the adult, whether male or female, should be the one held accountable. Equally.

I think they are for the most part, under the law.. It's the public perception that's wacked.. A lot of men get off with less than 6 years I'm afraid.

I don't think too many men would get off this light for molesting 5 girls. Maybe a couple, but if a man was to be caught molesting 5 girls, he would get at least 12 to 15 years. IMO

Wow.. I didn't know it was 5... but then again.. some men a step daughter over and over for years on end.. Some men have gotten off that light I'm sure. Without knowing the law and the case like the back of ones hand, it's hard to say what they took into account with her. Parents were like some prominent something, weren't they? In a church maybe?

We have had some of these step dad, step daughter situations locally, and I think they have gotten at least 10 years, even after a plea bargain, and my county is notorious for light sentences, but it seems with the cases that involve children as victims they are a bit more strict. As they should be.

Totally agree.. penalties should be in step. I'm just not convinced they're not. I don't have enough info to make up my mind on that.. Men do tend to be harder on men than women for just about anything though..

While you may find a rare case here and there of men getting a light penalty, that would be the exception, not the rule.

Women get much lighter sentences than men for the same and worse crimes than men by a very large margin. I can give examples:

When Etta Ann Urdiales was murdered in Colorado, two completely different juries convicted two different people of the crime. Both juries believed there was only one murderer. One convicted Bobbie Hogan, a woman. The other convicted Jess Jacobs, a man. She got 10 years in prison. He was put to death.

Gender is a deciding factor for everything including the decision to charge a person with a crime or not. There have been many studies done to show that many women are not even charged for crimes that a man would be sent to prison for.

    Interesting reading:
    ftp://repec.iza.org/RePEc/Discussionpaper/dp2870.pdf

It is a long read at the beginning but you can go to the end for the data tables, yes they are a few years old but they wanted to use numbers that were still being effected by the mandate for equal sentences, interesting that while there was a rule to give equal sentences, the judges did not follow the rule so how do you think their doing now without the rule?

THE AGE OF CONSENT SHOULD BE LOWERED TO 14. DAD'S SHOTGUN, AND PROPER PARENTING, SHOULD KEEP SEXUAL AGGRESSORS AWAY FROM 15 YEAR OLD SUZIE.

    Damn caps lock.

Is is time government gets out of the nanny business.

I agree completely, but "if" they are going to get involved, the least they can do is be consistant and not say crimes against young boys are not as severe as the same crime against young girls.
