This isn't a counter-point as much as it is a sound bite. Have we become so pathetic that we now simply regurgitate the sound bites we are fed through media special interests?
Those are preceived lost freedoms of the confused. Nothing bad has come to those who are innocednt. I'm glad they are working so well... B
Well, I don't want to stick around if this is simply going to be reduced to sound bites and name calling so I'm outta here.
Soundbite From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Sound bite) Jump to: navigation, search In film and broadcasting, a soundbite is a very short piece of footage taken from a longer speech or an interview in which someone with authority or the average "man on the street" says something which is considered by those who edit the speech or interview to be a most important point. As the context of what is being said is missing, the insertion of soundbites into news broadcasts or documentaries is open to manipulation and thus requires a very high degree of journalistic ethics. Politicians of the new generation are carefully coached by their spin doctors to produce on-demand soundbites which are clear and to the point. A sound bite is an audiolinguistic and social communications phenomenon whose nature was recognized in the late 20th century, helped by people such as Marshall McLuhan. It is characterized by a short phrase or sentence that deftly captures the essence of what the speaker is trying to say. Such key moments in dialogue (or monologue) stand out better in the audience's memory and thus become the "taste" that best represents the entire "meal" of the larger message or conversation. Sound bites are a natural consequence of people placing ever greater emphasis on summarizing ever-increasing amounts of information in their lives. News media in particular cherish sound bites. Reporters agree that the best news footage contains at least one sound bite. Politicians in turn have learned (along with their speechwriters) to put greater effort into delivering the perfect sound bite. Originality is not necessary but highly valued. Sound bites are useful to help guide footage editors focus on parts of dialogue that help advance the overall message. Not everyone enjoys hearing sound bites. They tend to sound best when delivered unplanned, and the logical inverse is often true -- the planned sound bite can easily ring forced and cast doubt as to the speaker's integrity. Yeah! That about says it all. It's in no way a debate tool to say the least.
Usually, liberals fight with "six-second-sound-bites" and a "V.W. bus-bumper-sticker" mentality because...face it, the people that support these cut-n-run politicians can't process any information longer than 6 seconds! So they march to slogans like, "No justice...no peace" or "Give Peace a Chance". [see?...six seconds is all these people (like our village idiot) can handle and digest.] They come from a generation who traveled the country protesting the "government". Along the way, they smoked and injested too many drugs which further fueled their whacked-far-left-views. Worst yet...they breeded another generation who now expect the government to take care of them at the expense of working tax paying producers! Remember seeing these people driving around? When the "bumper sticker" slogans fail along with the "six second sound bites", liberals resort again (yawn) to name calling, class warfare, race baiting, more income tax redistribution, and then they wrap themselves behind whatever enviromental cause, no matter how whacked it is (i.e., like drilling for oil in Alaska). They will claim the government has taken their rights as we fight a war against islamic animals who wish to kill ALL of us infidels (liberals too). They want us to forget about the threat and try to appease these people (which has failed time and time again). A educated person would ask a liberal, what rights have YOU lost and they will throw up the entire Constitution because it sounds and looks good. Sure it is longer than a bumper sticker on a V.W. bus, but many liberals (like their beloved trial attornies) are great at throwing mud and hoping something sticks. Instead of fighting a war against enemies of the civilized world, they would rather surrender (like the French) than DO what is right. Fighting a war is tough. Being fiscally discipline is tough. Telling individuals to take care of themselves is tough love. Unfortunately, liberals can't make tough decisions. They would rather hold hands and "teach the world to sing"...as long as if somebody else is paying for it and doing the dirty work: Case in point...Liberman in CT is literally being driven from the democratic party because he at least understands that muslim jihadists need to be killed. Even Al Gore will NOT support him. Why? The democratic party has moved more and more to socialism and needs to appease the losers that drove around, smoking dope, and protesting the "government" during the 60's...and their brat children. See what happens when these people cut their hippie hair, shave their beards, take a bath, and become active in politics? They are still the same loser people.
I'm not a political activist one way or the other, but I'm damn glad I contributed to making South Dakota a BLUE STATE this time. If the Democrats were taking to the fight to the enemy I would have voted that way, pretty simple. This war is going to go on long after Bush is out of office and I will continue to vote for the individual who I feel will do best for the country. I don't watch cable-news and wouldn't know Lieberman from Imus and Imus from Biden. I think Bill and Hillary were behind the suicide of Vince Foster and Clarence Thomas is a pervert. The antics of GWB Jr. don't make me happy all the time either, he takes too many vacations, a leader should lead by example. I wouldn't trust Tricky Dicky Cheney with a roll of nickels and think Donald Rumsfeld should step down. Should the troops come home? Nope, not now... As you can see I don't know what the "lingo" of politics is such as Sound Bites or Audiolinguistic Social Communications Phenomenon, and really don't care. But, I know where to put a bullet so that it'll stop a butcher knife waving radical muslim and that's what this is all about. For those crying about lost rights rest assured if you have nothing to hide you'll have nothing to worry about, but for the others who might have a hidden agenda, well then you'll wish you were at Guantanamo Bay. What is happening now to captured terrorists is recess compared to what the future holds... Bone
There reallly are innocents in Gitmo you did not listen to that link a few weeks ago. Plus any diminishment of our liberties is an assult on our dignity as a people. Further our reputation as a nation is in the cr*pper.
By the tone of the arguments here, one would have to assume that Moen and Danr are strong proponents of the Second Amendment. My concept of government tyrany is embodied in lawyers or all stripes. Trial lawyers, judges, most politicians, and many corporate fat cats are just money and power-grubing lawyers. Ruby Ridge, Waco, and Santa Rosa Island are perfect examples of government taking "our" liberty. Killing Arab terroists makes sense. Unfortunately, killing innocent home-grown Americans because they hate or fight the federal government appears to be part of the liberal Democrat doctrine, and their way of ensuring the liberties of the rich and powerful. At the root of most of our national problems are lawyers. People like Janet Reno, Madeline Albright, Chuck Schumer, and Alan Dershowitz.
I can respect your opinion Bone. I can respect your regional differences and biases. I can respect your interpretation of politics and their affect on your life. I can not respect blind trust of a government that has proven again and again throughout this countries' brief histroy that it will deceive and assert control over the owners of this country (you and I) anytime we are not vidulant. Incidentally, you are a red state.
Most of your rambling nonsense post deserves no answer but this tidbit caught my eye. Old Joe has dirty hands a 'la the accounting industry (remember Arthur Anderson?) also he and Dodd spearheaded the unethical expensing of options fiasco. That being said if he can beat the republicans that is great we need all the Dems as we can get to impeach this Bush mafia.
