I am sick and tired of and take serious offense to idiots that want to lump every gun owner into the same category with madmen. If someone decides to drive a car down a sidewalk in NYC and take out as many people as possible, do we assume every driver on the road might do the same thing?

It's time to put aside politics and figure out something that WORKS. Not knee jerk reactions. Not pipe dreams and feel good ideas. An AWB costs them nothing. Solves nothing. Quick, cheap and easy.
Real live armed guards like we afford all our *precious* lawmakers and politicians, costs money and may be difficult to implement. Yet effective. Politicians like cheap and easy. Not tough work.

To me, people are a part of nature, just as a river is part of nature. The river may be totally uneventful for 150 years. Then one day without notice, there can be ten inches of rain in 24 hrs and the river overflows and causes destruction. If you want to save your house, what do you do? Pass a law against the river flooding? Or physically stack sandbags as a barrier to keep the water out? It takes physical action to divert an undesired result.

As with the river, you cannot predict when the next shooter will go off or which school it will be. But you should at least have a physical barrier there to STOP a massacre. Not an imaginary law. Preventing a quiet, law abiding citizen in Idaho from having a certain type of firearm, does NOTHING to protect my child at school in Illinois from a mad man. Passing another law does nothing. This shooter broke all the laws that were supposed to protect the children! We need something physical to end the madness and that is in the form of armed security at all schools. No matter the cost. No other solution.

So you're sick and tired. You know what? I really don't care. Welcome to the board btw.

I've been here for years. I dont need your welcome. Once in a while I come back to try to motivate liberals to think about logical solutions. Sometimes just to get them to think. Your post proves how futile that is and how irrelevant the average liberal opinion has become.

I didn't think so. Innocent, unbirthed lives are valuable too, you know...

I get where you're coming from, and agree with most of what you said. What can be done is being done, but additional steps will likely be taken across the country to safeguard against more of this. They will still fail to protect people on occasion though. Lock all the doors you want, someone can drive a truck through them. Put barriers up in front of the door and watch someone drive through the wall...or use explosives. But yes, each safeguard lowers the likelihood of the attack causing death, so I would recommend those types of barriers as a precaution, and they don't cost much.

On cost though, I have to ask, how would all that extra security be paid for? As it is, schools take hit after hit, funding-wise, so who pays for it? In one way or another, the community must, through local millage or state funding, which is usually tied to funding through the federal government. With republicans not wanting to fund schools, that is a contradiction in beliefs, wouldn't you agree?

Easy mistake to make, as "vess1" rarely posts. There's really not much reason to, as most of what's said here is just the rehashing of ancient arguments and is pretty much just pointless bickering anyway. ;)

Are they all clones do you think? I wonder of there's a lab in Oklahoma somewhere that churns these automatons out. What a minute. I know! Diebold makes them! Easily programed. It all fits.

It's David's narrow vision versus our broad knowledge. We win every time. ;)

I suspect a War on Guns would be every bit as successful as the War on Drugs.

I think there's a lot to be said for that view. America is sick. Our lust for guns and our tendency to use them will not go away with laws. While some limitations I think have been useful in keeping guns out of the wrong hands and in the tracking the bad guys laws are not a solution to what is a psychological problem.

I don't pretend to know The Solution but one of the things I have thought in this is that we have fire drills, tornado drills, earthquake drills, etc in schools and other places - we may be at the point where we need suicide killer drills.

I know where I work, we have a high population with psychological issues (and more than a passing familiarity with guns and death) and we have procedures for that contingency. Of course, we also have armed police.

Apparently, there was such a drill, where the kids were taught to run away if someone came in with a gun. According to one of the kids, he and others ran PAST the shooter after he came in and shot their teacher...and them. I sure don't remember THAT drill from MY school days. Sign of the times.
