But we don't know what they will be in the coming years, that's the uncertainty staring at us. Libs keep calling for more, more, more in regard to taxation and many fear what that's going to mean to our wallets.

Are you sure it hasn't been your choice to not work, to not bust your butt?

    You are clueless. So:

Are you certain you got where you are without financial help from your parents, family, or friends?

Family is just one leg up and I certainly wouldn't hold it against anyone unless they received family help and tried to pretend they got where they are on their own. The greater issue is, for lack of a better term, "white privilege" and everything that goes along with being born white, male, heterosexual, mainstream religion, and all those factors that you are born into that give you a leg up. Rarely do these people that “made it on their own” type people consider the cultural lottery they won at birth.

I don't seem to remember the Tea Party Astroturf movement going global...Hum?

Wall Street sit-in goes global Saturday

LONDON — For an October revolution, dress warm. That's the word going out - politely - on the Web to rally street protests on Saturday around the globe from New Zealand to Alaska via London, Frankfurt, Washington and, of course, New York, where the past month's Occupy Wall Street movement has inspired a worldwide yell of anger at banks and financiers.

How many will show up, let alone stay to camp out to disrupt city centers for days, or months, to come, is anyone's guess. The hundreds at Manhattan's Zuccotti Park were calling for back-up on Friday, fearing imminent eviction. Rome expects tens of thousands at a national protest of more traditional stamp.

These Occupyers have more in common with the Arab Spring then the Tea Partiers. The Tea-Party seems to have evolved into the more vocal less-taxes, less-goverment arm of the Republican party while the Occupyers seem to want big business to stop crushing them. Big business doesn't like it when people squeal as the get crushed, they'd rather the people remain silent as they get crushed.

A recent BBC article had some insights into the Occupiers as well as the 53%ers:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15301200

A few select comments and quotes from the article above that I believe are relevant to our comments on this site:

Contributors on both say that they find value in work and want to be part of a productive society.

(Referring to the 53%ers): To them , "the system is fundamentally fair, and you people have done something wrong and need to pull yourself up by your bootstraps," says Ms Duncan.

For the 99%... "Those who are protesting say 'it's not anything I individually have done' but a larger systematic reason," says Lauren Duncan, professor of sociology at Smith College in Massachusetts.

On the subject of who deserves rewards:

"People don't really disagree that much about what's deserving. People think that hard work and studying, being willing to take some risks are all associated with being deserving," says Samuel Bowles, an economist at the Sante Fe institute.

"Other things don't count for being deserving,", he adds, like getting money without earning it, getting breaks based on race, or "lucking" into one's good fortune.

The biggest indicator for success in America is not a level of merit or hard work, but the amount of wealth inherited from family members.

"Merit enhances prospects for mobility, but it's still about beating the odds. Some people do break through the system on the basis of merit, luck, or other sorts of non-merit ways," he says, while others may be very deserving and still come up short.

"There's a disconnect between how people perceive how the system works and how it actually works,"

I like this %er stuff. I am part of the 66%ers and I am doing pretty good. I really don't hold any animosity towards the Davids, Moen1305s or Buffetts of the world. They do better than me but I do fine. Maybe I would if I was part of the 25%ers or 33%ers but I don't now.

Financial help? Yes, I am certain that did not come from my parents, family of friends.

So, by your reasoning, every non-white is a loser? I'll bet there are a few blacks, asians & hispanics who would disagree with you.
To expand your argument, if someone like iqless or tomc was born a "winner" what would you call them now?

I like the change suggested in this article, that they should call themselves the 75%ers, think bigger people! :D:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15301200

I think stu hit on this recently, that the 99%ers could be something else (or that he was something else) entirely.

    Pleeeeeeease!
You have no concept of "my reasoning" nor the ability to expand my argument. All you have is the ability to mischaracterize a rather easy to understand point. You simply refuse to believe that you were born into the privileged class because it feeds your self-delusion. By my economic standard you are a complete failure. You simply didn't work hard enough to succeed as well as I have. It must be because of your laziness because you certainly had every social advantage I had.

    Thank God!!

So....why not answer the question? If being white makes you a winner, does being anything else make you a loser?

....oh, and I gotta hear this- exactly what is your "economic standard"?
