I would think that this is something everyone in this forum could support. However, I've been here too long to know that is highly unlikely. The crowds I have seen seem pretty diverse and have had everyone from Tea Party people to the topless woman. I think Wall Street greed is something any American can get upset about no matter what their party affiliation might be. So, given all of that, where do you come down on this two week old protest on Wall Street and across the county and especially considering the heavy-handed police response that has been documented?
...I have no idea what you said after "topless women". In the future, you may want to end on that, or leave it out entirely, so maybe some of what you said will sink in. Unlikely... I mean, you did say "topless women"... What was the question?
I'm wondering if this is actually going to gain traction and continue to grow or peak and gradually fade away leaving behind no lasting results. I hope the former. As for support from those on this board, I'm not sure any Republican or corporate RWer will support any movement that calls into question the way their corporate masters operate
Ok, I managed to ignore that thing you said... honestly, I haven't been paying much attention to it, but hope the message is getting across to Congress.
Haven;t heard anything about it. But as long as they are peaceful and respect others rights to go about their business, more power to them.
I find it strange that the protests have been going on for two weeks and there is nary a word in the media. It took a cop randomly spraying the eyes of 5 peaceful female demonstrators to even make the news. If it wasn't for MSNBC, I'd have never heard of this protest. These are the people that took this country into a massive recession in criminal manner and not one has ever been prosecuted. They have however been handed billions in tax payer bailouts. I think people have a right to be mad as hell and if you aren't, you aren't paying attention which is probably why they did this and will do it again with impunity. I guess we will have not right to complain.
I'm afraid I don't think it strange at all. The corporate media does not think it in its interest to give this any serious coverage. It's as simple as that. The mace thing was probably just too good for them to pass up. If it were hundreds of Baggers camped out in front of the Democratic national headquarters there would be news trucks there 24-7.
I did see Roseanne Barr calling for wage limits of $100 million per year...I saw Susan Sarandon saying we couldn't be outdone by "our Arab Brothers" (whatever that means)...I saw a clip of Michael Moore eating something or saying something, whichever. The funniest part though was watching all the protesters & bloggers battle for wi-fi spots & charging stations. Wonder if they realize their consumption is just adding money to the pockets of those evil corporations? But yes, they do have a right to protest peacefully
Put 12 tea baggers on corner with 3 racist signs and Fox will cover the hell out of it 24/7, make a graphic of their concerns, have an "expert panel" to discuss the issues, and follow up with another lie about the Obama Administration. But that's just Fox. They tend to "lean" Right.
Yeah, Alex Jones....Right-wing radio host and Limbaugh wannabe not to mention a believer in the same "truther" nonsense you criticize Tom for. http://www.erichufschmid.net/mp3/Jones-Arabs-not-Zionists-21Sep2007.mp3 http://www.erichufschmid.net/mp3/Jones-30Aug2007.mp3
Who cares about the website, it was the video I found very funny (and telling). Did you catch the Harvard student complaining about 1%'ers? Not too many students at Harvard from poor families I would guess. None of them seemed able to answer questions either, they just repeated far left talking points. But I guess it was their "Honk if you have student loan debt" that got to you, huh?
Some Anti-Wall Street protesters liken themselves to the Tea Party. Well, if they demonstrate peacefully then I would say they are just like the Tea Party. We need to come up with a catchy name for the protesters. How about the Wall Bangers? http://news.yahoo.com/anti-wall-street-protests-spread-nationwide-210839665.html
One of our local newspapers reported on it last week and I will admit they lean to the left. Regardless, this has been going on for a few weeks and it's not just New York. Apparently there have been about 700 arrests made thus far in New York. Circumstances on that are being sifted through. 700 arrests. That's a lot of people to be arrested with no media coverage. Seriously, it's more than your typical Tea Party gathering that gets reported. New York is not the only place it's happening. There are more financial districts than Wall Street. It's also happening in Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Seattle, Boston, Los Angeles, Denver and San Jose. Many more are in the planning stages. Now. I don't care what side of the center you're on but shouldn't this tell you something? A LOT of people are beyond fed up. Ignoring it won't make it go away. To me the politicians are blind to it. They're too busy fighting amongst themselves. Addressing the situation would put a politician into finding a way to "fix it". Seems none of them have the guts to do it. In the meantime the "movement" grows. Let's just face it. A LOT of people are PI$$ED off.
The Guardian has had some great coverage... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blo...-street-brooklyn-bridge-arrests?newsfeed=true http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2011/sep/27/occupy-wall-street-anonymous
Well said Clembo! I was watching, for the briefest of moments, Bill O'Reilly converse with Juan Williams about the protests on Wall Street and they were arguing about whether the protest was "grassroots" and of course O'Reilly was arguing that the Tea Party was more grassroots and Juan, to his credit said that the protesters were young people that were simply out of work. O'Reilly shot back that these people didn't want to work. What a typical Right-wing apologist blaming the victims of this economy for their own plight.
