Rights, even First Amendment rights, are not absolute and unlimited. A person has a right to protest, but not to break other laws while doing so. In addition, I have to wonder how preventing people from using 16 subway stations to get to and from work helps anyone or anything? Who are the protestors affecting in that case? Big business? No. They are affecting other citizens who have their own rights and freedoms according to the Constitution, which the OWS protestors are limiting by their actions.
Indeed! What's the point of creating all the chaos? They're certainly not furthering their agenda nor garnering support: Wall St. Commuter: “We’re All 99%. This Is Ridiculous.” As part of Occupy Wall Street’s plans for its largest protest ever, occupiers may garner more disdain from the 99 percent than the 1 percent by attempting to clog New York’s subway system. The notion of disrupting transit in the nation’s largest city isn’t sitting well with commuters, few of whom are Wall Street titans. One commuter to the financial district expressed her frustration today over delays on her commute every day this week. Her normal commute should last about seven minutes but now takes 25 minutes. “This has been every day for this past week, 25 minutes to get from Canal to Wall. It’s shameful — we are all 99 percent, this is ridiculous,” the unidentified woman told WABC. The protesters’ “Day of Action” included rallying around the New York Stock Exchange to try to shut it down. Police blocked off the area surrounding it, Broad Street and Wall Street, and have made several arrests but business went on at the exchange as usual. The goal of the protesters is to cause a disruption after anger at police and the city for clearing out their camping grounds in Zuccotti Park early Tuesday morning. Protesters plan to ride the subway this afternoon and march over the Brooklyn Bridge at 5 p.m. But who are they really disrupting? http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/wall-st-commuter-99-ridiculous-173539546.html
As I heard it, the protesters are not planning on blocking access or shutting down the subway system, though I'd imagine that many people would slow boarding and unboarding down somewhat.

This is why you can't have a rational conversation with people from the political right. They make up their own figures and opinions while working backwards to support them. You, and people like you, have already decided ahead of time what these people are and you are going to reinterpret every conversation to make it so. It makes discussion impossible and irrelevant. The world is changing and the old ways are no longer effective, but you will certainly hold on to them.
Or maybe it's just the person making up facts and figures and not the ideology? What if I said that every person from the political left verbally attacked people that disagreed with them instead of supporting their position with positive information? I don't know every person from the political left, correct? So how can I make that kind of statement when only the people that are vocal enough to post are doing it and the majority of people who do not post probably don't take that position at all?
No, you're wrong. The 1st link does not say they want to shut down the subway system. The 2nd link interprets the first link incorrectly... they made an incorrect interpretation of the stated goals. I watched it on CNN...a reporter asked a protester about that and she replied they didn't want to shut down the subway.
If I hadn't seen it happen in multiple discussions on multiple forums with multiple people and seen it promoted by the major Right Wing pundits, activist and politicians I might buy that answer. I have seen it and I don't buy it. I keep trying and every time I end up disappointed with the result. Of course, you can take the other course of action which is to claim you have been insulted and ignore the argument all together.
OK, but just where do the rights of the rest of us to use the public property (Brooklyn bridge et al) and get to our work end?
You used the word "majority". Remember? So by your words, over 50% (i.e. "the majority" or 51%) "have been non-criminal and non-violent". I did not make anything up. I merely quoted your words.
Go back and read what I've said. I support their right to protest, but I don't support their message.
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." ~ Evelyn Beatrice Hall, writing as S.G. Tallentyre
I guess the OWS rights are now trumping the elementary school kids rights; http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/11...-children-try-to-go-to-school-on-wall-street/
NPR reported yesterday that the mobs were blocking ambulances, police & fire rescue vehicles, even meal delivery services for the elderly not to mention commuters & tourists, even going so far as knocking an elderly lady down a flight of stairs (and cheering about it because the way she dressed made them think she was wealthy) ....anywhere they thought would get the most publicity
You believe that? "by knocking an elderly lady down a flight of stairs" (and cheering afterwards 'cause they thought she was wealthy), in order to gain publicity? ... ..."Hey! Look at us! We just knocked a elderly wealthy woman down a flight of stairs to get our message across!" I have to ask myself which is more likely: That your account is true, or you are embellishing again. No offense meant here David, but I think you're embellishing again. If an ederly woman was indeed knocked down a flight of stairs, that would be a reprehensible act, and the people should be arrested for that. Then, the woman or her family can file a lawsuit to recover damges sustained as a result of the attack. Unless she was stabbing someone and was pushed in self-defense... then she should be arrested herself. See how I embellished there? The point is: Stick to the facts and make your case, because once you begin embellishing... making-up things that may not necessarily have happened... you lose credibility.
Now, if you have proof of the elderly woman being knocked-down a flight of stairs, a police officer's report, a video, even a written statement from a witness... I'd be willing to state my own opinion on that evidence... whether I feel it is true or untrue.
http://politicons.net/occupy-dc-pro...d-woman-down-cement-stairs-at-afp-conference/ I heard it on NPR then found it on the web. Now what????? You and moen have so immersed yourselves in the far left propaganda that you don't even realize how brainwashed you really are. I don't think it's a coincidence the two of you are singing out of the same hymnal by accusing me of lying or embellishing the truth- you just can't bring yourselves to accept the facts because Roseanne Barr, Michael Moore, Rachel Maddow and those of a similar ilk are telling you otherwise.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Thomas Jefferson Not talking about old ladies here but...War of Independence - violent, End of slavery - Violent with a civil war. Workers Rights - Violent with Class Warfare with the masses fighting back and Congress fearful of losing power passing laws against child labor, shortening the work week, safer working conditions, etc. So please excuse me if I am not upset if their is some anger in the streets after hundreds of billions was stolen quietly. Think of how that money could have helped society if used wisely.
