Fact, lawyer and believe are not often three words I tie together.

You're saying a lawyer believes this because that's how he sees it therefore it's a fact?

Fact and belief are not interchangeable.

If the point is (as Stu said) that no dealerships should be shut down and they should fall according to market forces, I may be able to buy that. But if the assertion is that Obama is picking and choosing which dealers go down based on party affiliation, I call BS.

damn Dan, you are making sense again.

I believe in free market enterprize, 100 %, supply and demand.

This party affiliation thing I think is exagerated due to the amount of Repos in independant biz.....Not to pander at all, but most independant biz's are repo in nature and against regulation, therefore, most by default would be repos and conservative in nature or affiliation.

in no way could the government get away with such a blatant partisan swipe.......it simply is not happening. What we are seeing is a coherent leaning down of business on a business model....fat must go, you cannot support unprofitable locations, franchises etc. Even Walmart does this.

as an advertiser and indi biz man, i target my ad dollars and spending to what works, what does not work gets yanked. no results? no more money. it's that simple.

And a report is out on the shutdowns...

    http://money.cnn.com/2010/07/18/smallbusiness/auto_dealership_report/index.htm?hpt=T1

"Treasury made a series of decisions that may have substantially contributed to the accelerated shuttering of thousands of small businesses ... potentially adding tens of thousands of workers to the already lengthy unemployment rolls," said the report, released by the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), Neil Barofsky."

Well that should be ok with the right since corporations trump small business anyway. Another win for big business.

Tomc, there was an interesting article in the AP yesterday. Apparently your "beacon on the hill" Cuba is experiencing some real woes among their workforce. 95% of the Cuban people are employed by the government & Raoul Castro doesn't understand why there is no "love for the work" in the ranks or why only 1 out of 5 Cuban workers is productive. As a way to save the economy Cuba is actually beginning to open their system up to...now wait for it....Capitalism

If you want a balanced society and economy then in all fairness you will require elements of both Capitalism and Socialism for it to work either one on its own inevatably will lead to problems, dont believe me then look at the history books.
For capitalism to work you need a healthy and litterate work force to get that you have to adopt socialist ideas such as health care and education :)

Close minded? I'd call it a well researched lifetime volley of experiences that form an accurate opinion.
    Obsessive? You got me there.
Reactionary? Only when I see crimes against humanity.

I'd love to chat with you more in a convincing way about this intriguing topic but I am being threatened by a bully organization who I am, so far, unable to publicly expose in a fail safe way!
