So you dont think that previouse political decissions would have caused any job losses Or to look at it another way if the company had gone to the wall how many dealerships would have been lost then along with auto industry employees? so perhaps it could be argued that Presidential/Goverment ownership is saving jobs bot Republican and Democrat
There is a difference in my opinion between 'previous political decisions' possibly affecting jobs and direct ownership absolutely affecting jobs. Kind of like the difference between me not deciding to buy a car from a dealer and me telling a dealer they aren't going to sell any more cars. And, as far as dealerships, typically governments gives them tax breaks and other incentives for them to stay in business because they are good for the localities they are in. Look at Ford. I bet they aren't planning to do a rash of dealership closures like this. I bet they and the other car makers around the world (non-US ones) are salivating over this move. Less competition for them at their dealerships. And, since it seems that both Chrysler and GM are going down the same path they would have without government ownership, I have a hard time seeing how it has helped. Chrysler will no longer be an American company and GM looks to be headed for Chapter 11. The same things that were happening before President Obama assumed control of the companies. And GM's stock has tanked under government ownership while Ford's has doubled in the same period without government ownership.
not very familiar with the auto industry are you? If it is such a bad idea why did they spend millions lobbying for laws to make it illegal to buy a new car online?
Ummmm, What does what I said have to do with lobbying or the illegality of selling cars online? I have no problems with companies selling cars online and the rules against it are just more government interference and should be abolished. I wonder why the current President hasn't had the 2 car companies he owns start selling online... But, my contention was that I would not want to buy a car sight unseen, without driving one, etc. And I am surprised anyone would. I guess there are people out there who would want to buy a car totally online. They are probably under the impression that they would save a lot money that way instead of just redirecting it out of their local community and straight to the manufacturer. But, I doubt any supposed savings for me would ever make up for buying a car without ever sitting in it or driving it and seeing if it was right for me. Again, like buying a house without ever setting foot in it.
You really like to wander. Have you heard of "changing the goal post" it is a fallacy in logic and you are a master of it. The point of the thread is that Obama is picking and choosing dealerships to close down, I have proven that assertion false, then you change the goal post and bring in the proposition that closing dealerships AT ALL is wrong. That is a completely different issue yet you keep interjecting it. Maybe this different issue that you keep bringing up should go here: http://www.prweforum.com/showthread.php?p=277354#post277354
This coming from the guy who just changed the subject to online car sales...twice. You are really a piece of work. lol Trying to have an honest political discussion with an extremist is like wrestling in the mud with a pig. I will gladly leave you to your myopic liberal extremist blog reading/conservative extremist blog reporting. Adios.
Picture the following... You are out having dinner and not happy with the service. You reach over the table, grab your girl's hand and say: "You know what honey, the service here is poor and the food is terrible...what this place needs is the federal government to come here and make it better." That is EXACTLY what the B.O. administration believes and like his initials, it STINKS The free enterprise system is being taken over by B.O. socialist liberals who believe they are smarter and better for capitialism than the individual. Consider the following...a blast from the past: In 1860, Henry J. Heinz, age 16, was selling homegrown vegetables to Pittsburgh grocers. In 1869, he and a friend, L.C. Noble, went into business and marketed their 1st product-horseradish. The company went bankrupt, but Heinz started a new company in 1876, F. and J. Heinz. One of this firm's 1st products was ketchup and the rest is history. Heinz didn't get a "participation trophy" when he first went bankrupt, he failed and WITHOUT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION later succeeded. He didn't wait for a bail out or the coming of B.O.! There are a number of companies that all failed first before they adapted and succeeded later. B.O. is literally killing the American dream by making sure the government has a hand in EVERYTHING we do. Look at his actions...never his tele-prompting words.
Obama's takeover of the American auto industry is so breathtaking in scope and power that it proves he taking this country toward socialism. Keep in mind, the takeover was followed by orders to close 789 local Chrysler dealers, notices to 1,100 General Motors franchises that they will be shut down by next year and estimates that total dealer shutdowns will rise to 3,000...by mandate of the White House!! Now, some of these local dealerships have been family-owned for generations and make a PROFIT. The Chrysler and GM dealership closings are estimated to eliminate 187,000 jobs, which is more than the number of people who work for the two automakers!! Nearly every one of the closed local dealerships had donated to Republican candidates, almost none was an B.O. contributor, and some dealerships owned by Democrats are not getting the ax. You simply can't ignore this. These closings come after B.O.'s extraordinary cash and stock favoritism to one of his principal campaign supporters, the United Auto Workers union. The car czar, Steve Rattner, was a top Democratic fundraiser...what a shock!! B.O. seems to be captivated by the un-American notion of running the country through Russian-style czars empowered to issue czarist-style ukases. He has already named about 20 czars (more than the Russians had over four centuries), and his latest is a "cyber" czar. Thanks to socialist democrats and B.O., this year's deficit will be $1.841 trillion -- $89 billion more than previously estimated. God help this country!
Representative John M. McHugh, a Republican congressman from New York, will be nominated by President Obama to be secretary of the Army Is he a Socialist as well??
Midas how many of those dealeships (Family owned) would have gone out of buisness if GM and Chrysla had been allowed to fail utterly? How many of the dealerships are actualy contributors towards the Democratic party and how many are Republican? How much of that Deficit has come about thanks to the banking crisis which began under the last administration? Are we forgeting who bailed out AIG? lets see 85 billion in September of 2008 wonder who was in controll then?? Fannie, Freddie bailout September 2008 Who was President then I wonder Was it Obama NO I think not LOL but hey you dont want to be reminded of that do you LOL
...as I recall the auto dealers approached the gov't for a bail out. Your analogy does not apply at all.
This is the issue that the thread started with and I totally discredited your "point". The story at this link discredits the myth that you are trying to sell. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/05/news-flash-car-dealers-are-republicans.html
Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits. If he subscribes to this nonsense...SCREW HIM TOO!! Don't you realize that you simply can't tax and spend yourself into prosperity...and the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of somebody else's money!
You simply can't igore the facts no matter how much B.O. has provided kool-aide for the idiots to drink. Fact: A lawyer for Chrysler dealers facing closure as part of the automaker’s bankruptcy reorganization said he believes Chrysler executives do not support a plan to eliminate a quarter of its retail outlets. How can did make that conclusion? Lawyer Leonard Bellavia, of Bellavia Gentile & Associates, who represents some of the terminated dealers, said he deposed Chrysler President Jim Press and came away from the deposition that Jim Press did not support the plan. “It became clear to us that Chrysler does not see the wisdom of terminating 25 percent of its dealers,” Bellavia said. “It really wasn’t Chrysler’s decision. They are under enormous pressure from the President’s automotive task force.” Now, doesn’t B.O. want to create or save jobs? I guess not if you didn't support him. How can you NOT say these closing were not politically motivated when the dealer closings were not ordered by a bankruptcy judge? Instead...they were ordered by the White House. This puts a whole new light on how the dealers to be closed were chosen and, more importantly, who did it. Now consider the following... a politically connected group of Democrats who own six Chrysler dealerships not only were allowed to keep them, but their competition was deep sixed. The company is called RLJ-McLarty-Landers, and it operates six Chrysler dealerships throughout the South. All six dealerships are safe from closing. Why?? They were safe because they supported B.O. The dealer locations are: Bentonville, AR (northwest Arkansas) Lee’s Summit, MO (south of Kansas City, MO) Branson, MO Olathe, KS (near Kansas City) Bossier City, LA (near Shreveport) Huntsville, AL The interesting part is who the three main owners of the company are. The owners are Steve Landers(long-time car dealer, 4th-generation dealer), Thomas “Mack” McLarty (former Chief of Staff for President Clinton), and Robert Johnson (founder of Black Entertainment Television and co-owner of the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats). In fairness, Landers has given money to Republicans in the past, but McLarty campaigned for B.O. in 2008, and Johnson has given countless amounts of money to Democrats over the years. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
A meme that is currently picking up traction in the conservative blogosphere is that the list of dealerships to be shuttered as a result of Chrysler's bankruptcy contains a disproportionate number donors to Republican candidates. There have been furious efforts to prove this contention by looking up campaign contributor lists at the Huffington Post, Open Secrets, and other places. There is just one problem with this theory. Nobody has bothered to look up data for the control group: the list of dealerships which aren't being closed. It turns out that all car dealers are, in fact, overwhelmingly more likely to donate to Republicans than to Democrats -- not just those who are having their doors closed.
Midas please just answer me this If the Chrysler went out of buisness totaly how many of those retail outlets would have to shut there doors? It makes no difference what the Chrysler executives wanted they are the ones who went cap in hand to washington for funds (Or am I wrong about that?) so in reality they have allready failed and taken the company to the brink of anihalation, so what weight should we place in what they say? Perhaps it might have been better if they had been forced to close there doors and all the workers made redundant, I wonder how many would have found new jobs?
