I know this is a bellicose nation; but Americans died in Iraq because we got tired of talking? Seems a waste to me. And let's not forget, the weapons Hussein used on the Kurds happened when we were backing him. I've a feeling we knew about it then. "He tried to kill my father, what better reason is there?''-G.W. Bush

Craig....was that an actual quote you can attribute? Not being sly, but if he said it that would be amazing to know....I already cant stand him, but that would blow the doors off....

    Jack,

Craig screwed up the quote (nothing surprising there). The actual quote is "after all, this is the guy who tried to kill my dad at one time" Here is a Youtube clip.

The other thing Craig won't tell you is the context of the quote. In 1993, Saddam plotted to kill daddy Bush via a car bomb in his visit to Kuwait. At least that is the public report issued by the government. The quote doesn't seem that silly now does it. Furthermore, the problems with Saddam did not just magically appear when W entered office. The situation started when daddy Bush allowed Saddam to remain in power after the gulf war and relations deteriorated during the Clinton years. By 2003, it was evident to most people that diplomacy was not going to work with Saddam.

So Craig thinks the US is bellicose. I think we are very fortunate not to have a him as President.

And what do you base that on? Is it because you agree with their widely discredited positions? Every expert out there including several people from the Bush administration have confirmed that the WMD argument was a hoax, the 9/11 linkage to Saddam Hussein was a hoax, and the UN has called the attack on Iraq by the US illegal. What I am missing here? Every reason the administration threw out there for going to war has proven false so they eventually settled on nation building and regime change. No one would have gone to war if that had been the reason for invading Iraq. No one!

The fact that even though their entrenched positions have been proven false again and again, they never waiver from changing them. Lehigh simply says that the war "may" prove to be a smart move some time in the future. That's some argument eh? I mean fixing stupid isn't my job. You have to want to learn before it can actually take place. I don't see anything close to an open mind on the other side of this issue. They continue to make argument for a war that all the experts have concluded was a war of choice not necessity. But they listen to the political side that never gives quarter, never admits mistakes, and repeats those mistakes again and again. I firmly believe that we have some of the stupidest citizens on the planet. I’d like to believe otherwise, but people like those in this forum keep reinforcing my beliefs.

No, pathetic is you calling others bellicose and then threatening another member of the forum only 5 posts later. Even more pathetic is that you can't deliver on that threat and only made it because you are protected by the anonymity provided by the internet. Isn't that right grandpa?

So Bill and Hillary are not experts? They have both stated that there were WMD's in Iraq. It was Clinton's administration that"found" them. Are you missing something? Absolutely - THE FACTS.

    BTW, You are avoiding my questions again;

Bill and Hillary didn't attack Iraq either. Please posts a credible source for their comments otherwise it's just your opinoin. I like context. Context matters.

    Moen,

Are you really so egotistical to believe that anyone who disagrees with you is stupid? You have not proven what you consider to be fact. Your quote is "a war that all the experts have concluded was a war of choice not necessity." That is not a statement of fact. What experts? You have not quoted one expert in this thread. Furthermore, even if you do quote an expert, that is their opinion. They have no actually proof of the intentions of the leaders of the United States during that time period. This issue is less than a decade ago. We all remember it. Do you really believe that the WMD issue was a charade used to hide the real motive which you claim was nation building? Do you think that the US was so good at charades that they were able to obtain unanimous support from the UN Security Council about WMD's in Iraq?

Again, you are employing revisionist history by using information that was not known then to discredit the decisions made in order to support your partisan viewpoint. When the decision to invade Iraq was made, the intelligence told us that Iraq had WMD's and the UN Chief Weapons Inspector was highly critical of the Iraqi cooperation with the weapons inspections. It is reasonable to believe that the Bush administration believed that Saddam was a threat to national security and that they used the apparent intelligence regarding WMD's as a reason to validate their intent to remove him from power and neutralize the threat. It is not reasonable to believe that the Bush administration wanted to remove Saddam from power and engage in nation building and successfully fabricated the WMD issue to the entire world. This is another grand conspiracy theory that is so typical of the left.

The fact that WMD's were not found in Iraq does not mean it was a hoax. It simply means that the intelligence was wrong. Do you have evidence that the Bush administration knew Iraq did not have WMD's but lied to the world in order to conjure a reason to invade? Given that the intelligence was wrong, the reason for the war becomes unjustified, which in turn makes the entire campaign a mistake. If you were to say that most experts now agree that invading Iraq was a mistake, I would agree with both you and them. However, what's done is done. We did invade, we removed Saddam, and now our combat troops have withdrawn. There is nothing wrong with pointing out that our military bases in Iraq may turn out to be incredibly valuable in dealing with the Iranian regime in the future.

Let's face it, you are simply playing monday morning quarterback here. You criticize the republicans of being closed minded, never admitting mistakes, and repeating the same mistakes over and over. Look in the mirror dude, you do exactly the same thing.

Proving you wrong would be my great pleasure. Although I doubt you will ever admit your own mistake even in the face of incontrovertible evidence. The following is a direct quote of President Clinton after he attacked Iraq.

    http://articles.cnn.com/1998-12-16/politics/1998_12_16_transcripts_clinton_1_saddam-hussein-unscom-iraq-strike?_s=PM:ALLPOLITICS

If you read that, you could make the case that the Bush administration plagiarized Clinton's words. You blame the Bush administration for the Iraq war. Yet the Clinton administration followed the exact same foreign policy in regards to Iraq as the Bush administration.

If term limits did not exist, Clinton would have beaten Bush in the election and served a third term. I have no doubts that as history unfolded, Clinton would have made the same decision to invade Iraq that Bush did. Had history unfolded in that fashion, we would not be hearing word one from you because it wouldn't serve you partisan agenda.

I have to agree with Lehigh it was allready leading up to a all out war by the time President Bush (Junior) took command as for the WMD we know full well that Saddam had in fact used nerve gass against his own population and against Iran all he lacked was a decent delivery system and he was looking for that.
I still think that President Bush (senior) should have listend to Margret the 1st time round and finished it then instead of allowing the thing to drag on for years

    Mr Moen
I have learned that this war was wrong and we did not need to start it.....

But AT THE TIME......we did not know what we know now......thats where this forum has you cornered....you will not back up and admit that AT THE TIME....a very strong case was waged by those on BOTH sides of the aisle.

The UN has declared it illegal? The UN also has CUBA, SUDAN and LYBIA on it's human rights panel? You mean that UN ? Saddam even laughed at the UN........

This was was authorized by congress overwhelmingly !!!!!!

Cmon, when we are cornered, lets admit we are wrong, that makes us better people and gives us more credibility in the debate game.....

I was a hard nosed W loving fool when I joined this forum....intectually honest debate and an open mind has made me much smarter :)
