The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic. ~ Benjamin Franklin

I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer. ~ Benjamin Franklin

The welfare state isn't a new concept.

I agree with this. Welfare should be abolished. If you have all of the abilities to work, yet don't, that's your problem. There is no excuse. There are plenty of jobs in this country, even in this bad economy. Back to the whole teach a man to fish instead of giving him the fish concept.

Not just jobs, but opportunity. Everyone has a skill or talent, and if you don't you need to take it upon yourself, maybe with limited, temporary assistance, to learn or develop a marketable skill.

Absolutely. How is it that millions of immigrants have been able to come to this country (and still continue to do so) with nothing - almost no money, no knowledge, not knowing the language, and have made something of themselves through hard work and sacrifice? Yet others have been here for generations and still manage to remain in poverty and ignorance?

It's not immigrants or anyone else keeping people down, but themselves. It's always just easier blaming someone and something else.

Of all the peoples coming the the United States, there is one group that will run this land before the end of the century. They are Indians, but not the feather wearing kind, but the dot head kind.

Of the three Indian people I know, two of them are pharmacists and the other one is studying nuclear sciences and runs a Subway during the day.

My hats off to them, they are making their own American Dream.

Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built. ~ Abraham Lincoln
