Now that the U.S. military has been in Iraq going on 5 years with troop levels as high as ever and given that over 3,000 U.S. soldiers have died in that time and 10's of thousands have been maimed and the Iraqis don't seem any closer to being able to manager their own affairs, is it just possible that no matter how good our military is, there just isn't a military solution to this conflict? All we have succeeded in doing is getting rid of the strong man that kept the lid on sectarian violence and kept Al Qaeda out of Iraq. We haven't achieved much else and have backslid on reconstruction, utilities, regional stability, and just about every other bench mark not associated with military conflict. While our soldiers can and have done everything that has been asked of them, are we just playing a game of Wack-A-Mole in the middle of a country that can draw endlessly on fresh recruits from all of the surrounding countries until we are tired of sending people there to die? If in 5 or 10 years this is still going on and one of your sons wants to enlist to go over to Iraq, would you be comfortable watching them sail away to become fodder for some roadside bomber? When is enough, enough?
Best thing to do is allow a Arab peace keeping force to take over control of the country (Except for Kurdish areas), pull all our troops out, I said all this before they hung Sadam (That was a bad mistake he was a boogie man to the millitants) We should secure the Kurdish Homeland & let the rest go to hell in a basket
If that is the case it just proves I am a visionery as I sugested it as soon as we invaded Iraq LOL New name I think Nostaorcus
Has anyone asked the average GI what he thinks? Since he is the one putting his life on the line then he should have the first sayso. Who is the average GI? He is the man on the ground fighting not only the islamic terrorists but the American pussycats!
Yes I have a mate who is a Para and has served in Iraq & Afghanistan and is now sitting behind a desk due to a spinal injury. His view is similar to mine get us out or let us do our job without political restraints.
Perhaps you forgot or never knew that the average GI doesn't now nor has ever had anything to say about the war he or she is involved in. They have but one purpose. Kill the enemy or die trying. Their opinions are about as necessary as helmets with targets painted on them. Sorry, it's always been that way.
Indeed. Civilians declare war, consent to war and fund war. All the military does is fight the wars for you.
Moen 1305, What you say is not entirely true. The average GI makes decisions all the time about whether to kill or not in combat. If you think there are a lot of rules and regulations about driving a car down Main Street, USA. Then drive down the DMZ.
You will have to cut Moen some slack with his statements on war and how it's being handled. He's one of those arm chair commanders who couldn't see well enough to get into the military, and his eye sight hasn't improved any on his visions of how it should be handled. It comes down to, he hasn't any idea what he is talking about and very limited ways of solving the problem.
I never said the average GI didn't make decisions, I said that they have little to say about the wars they are sent to fight in. I'll post my comment again for your reinterpretation... Perhaps you forgot or never knew that the average GI doesn't now nor has ever had anything to say about the war he or she is involved in.
My good buddy who was a marine MP got out and we were talking and he had a massive amount of misinformation on the war. It was weird that a guy who was there in the middle of it had somany misunderstandings. He actually said "they hate us for our freedom" can you believe that.
YEP! Here we go again....he was there and you were not.......so he was wrong and had the wrong information. Just how stupid is that?
I wonder how many Iraqis that Danr has had interaction with in Iraq? Apparently, quite a few since he has such intimate knowledge.
MOEN, if you just tell everyone here what you REALLY think about the US and the Military then all of us who take you for what you say in each of your post (Condemning the US and the Military) wouldn't have to assume what position you are taking. Come on out of the closet and hate the US and the military openly! Come on, come on. I know you can do it, you do it everyday in here. I just hope the FBI and any of the other acronym agencies are aware of your demented mind!
Go ahead and assume anything you want. You're a good little (former) soldier. You already know everything you've been told to know. I can't help you in anyway. Just remember this, it isn't the things you know that get you, it's the things you assume you know that get you in the end. I'm sure that the wisdom of this truism is completely lost on someone of your persuasion but others may find it of some use. Just keep drinking, living in mom's basement and failing at life in general. God and country young man, there isn't anything else. Thinking is unnecessary. Brought to you by the late-great-planet-evans.
I've expressed my opinion on both issues on countless occasions but it didn't fit in with your assumptions of me so you just keep assuming you already know the answer to a question you don't really want an answer to in the first place. As any member of this forum will tell you that has been here long enough, I have no trouble telling people what I really think. Unlike you, I don't assume to know what others think until they've said it. You for example, have come off as a super patriot after four years in the military and are a better American than anyone else and only you love America. That's fine, you can believe as you wish but trying to take your rather limited intellect and tell the rest of us what we think is well beyond your abilities. The world probably seems very black and white to you but that is only because you fail to ask the tough questions and listen to the hard answers in return. Instead telling us what we think, try and concentrate on telling us what you think. I don't really care what your opinion of me is and you certainly don't know what I think unless I tell you and you actually hear what I'm saying. The real difference between people like you and people like me isn't our involvement in the military, it's the ability to think critically about issues and their impact on our lives. You've spent so little time figuring out your own opinions that you have to tell others what there opinions are and inevitably you fail miserably because you don't even know what your own opinions are. You only know what others have told you to think. Don't bother responding, just get some education. Only then will you realize how little you actually know.
WHATEVER! Nobody told me what to think about you! I formed my own opinions and concluded you are full of CRAP as I sit in the game-room in my own house looking over the beautiful lake! I own a couple of businesses so I don't need your misconceptions towards how I live my life. I am living the American Dream loving every minute of it, while you MOEN about your lonely pathetic hate-filled world. That was my point in my previous post regarding you. You don't even know what you are actually saying!
I'm afraid that Moen knows very well every word he says and uses in his various declarations and/or remarks. Like many of his kind, he has taken up the roll of part-time preacher along with house-husband. That plus the fact that he wouldn't have made it this far in life, after having lived on the south side of Chicago, before moving north for his health. With this background he has had to learn the extent of what he can and can not be held responsible for saying, or someone would have killed him by now. It's just that now he can hide behind the computer screen and say those things that his friends in South Chicago would have killed him for saying. It gives his some form of satisfaction between watching the kids he has spawned and walking the dog. I do understand that his wife keeps him on a fairly tight leash, and for this we should all thank her. Alas, she works to support the family and can't be home watching him all the time. So that is the problem. Thought you would want to know!
