She took no message of peace to Syria according to Israeli PM Olmert. She will always be known as a liar to many now, but that's not a big surprise.

The Prime Minister's Office issued a rare "clarification" Wednesday that, in gentle diplomatic terms, contradicted US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's statement in Damascus that she had brought a message from Israel about a willingness to engage in peace talks.

Can't see why on earth someone would have voted for her.

Olmert doesn't have much credibility after the way the recent Lebanon situation was handled either, so it is difficult to take sides against the US and for Israel on this matter. What I suspect happened [we can never know for certain] is that Pelosi is being truthful as far as her understanding goes, but the language of diplomacy is so intricate and specialized that words such as "willingness to engage" take on special meanings that Israel did not intend to convey, and so her statement becomes inaccurate in the diploomatic context and had to be corrected. Politicians are not trained diplomats, and this example makes that clear. A Bush I administration diplomat [name escapes me] is said to have sent the wrong signal to Saddam about our theoretical reaction to a theoretical invasion of Kuwait that was responsible for the first Gulf war. Saddam thought he had the green light from his [then] American allies. So precision in language is more important in diplomacy than in most other fields because people can die if the wrong message is conveyed. But the fact that Israel would NOT be willing to engage in peace talks speaks volumes too in light of the alternatives. All the more reason for the US to stay out of the region.

Just another excercise in Bonehead hating anything to do with any Democrat whatsoever. He's never had a single positive thing to say about any Democrat as long as I can remember. He just scours the internet for something he can misconstrue and hold up as proof that will support his highly slanted extreme partisan views. All these threads die as fast as he can post them because there is no thought put into them other than posting news items of little consequence with single sentence headers that contain niether insightful observations nor anything that remotely borders on wit. He simply floods this section with his unbalanced opinions for purely political reasons and tries to incite opposing views that he has no intension of listening to and even less ability to hear. He's kind of the Right Wing radio broadcaster of Cointalk...Rush Limbone. If you scream loud enough and long enough and drive everyone away but those few that agree with your opinion, you get to tell yourself that you win even if nobody is listening anymore. I believe this tactic is just a reaction to the fear he has over the realization that Republicans are on the way out for years of corruption and lies and there is nothing left to do but continue to throw cow pies at Democrats and hope like hell something sticks. People with this blantantly biased approach are meaningless drones attempting to carry their parties torch long enough to see the rise of their tired old ideas again. In other words, expect a steady drumbeat of Blah, Blah, Blah from the party faithful and those like bone that are philosophically vacant wide-eyed soldiers for lost causes.

No Moen I do it just to keep you happy. It doesn't matter what party pulls crooked stuff, I just read the headlines...

Pelosi's first attempt at international diplomacy ended in a BOLD FACED LIE, LMAO...

Nancy has more diplomatic ability in he little finger than the entire Bush admin combined. In one trip she freed the hostages and put Isreal on the road to peace.

All right Moen, lets hear some positive real things about Nancy Pelosi. Danr, like I said in another thread, you make me sick.

All of that.. really? I'm thinking her junket resulted in 4 British and 5 American deaths along with the discovery of the large dog chromosome and the release of the Anna Nicole Smith diary.

Oh, almost forgot. She's got a BIG AIRPLANE ;)

If that is in fact true, we should thank George Bush. He has gotten us so used to our political leaders lying that it has become hardly noticeble anymore. I don't care a lick about Nancy Pelosi one way or the other but I am absolutely sure you won't miss an opportunity to point out anything negative real or imagined out of pure bitterness. Is it Democrats or do you just not like women or both?

Nearly all politicians are at least somewhat crooked nowadays, it pretty much comes down to choosing the lesser of the evils. They certainly didn't do that with Pelosi. And they won't be doing it when they elect Hillary Clinton either.

Moen, you've got to work on your internet etiquette or 'Netiquette' as it's called now. Learning to control that anger of yours when unfortunate or embarrassing news is broken about your political party will serve you well in the future. ;)

Here are your first words in this thread,
a personal attack. One doesn't have to search very hard to find more examples of antisocial behavior that you've displayed repeatedly on this list.

You and I have had calm and rational discussions in the past. I recall the Ann Coulter thread where we both agreed she was a "Sea-Hag" so-to-speak. We actually have a lot of similar views, but... People respect and listen a lot more to an individual who can get the point across graciously rather than forcefully. Here are a few valuable links, they're a beginning...

You mistake anger for disgust. Is one angry with a dumb beast for not being able to understand Shakespeare? Of course not, but one shouldn't ask a dumb beast to recite Shakespeare either. It's just beyond them.

Yes we have but you wallow in the mud and then attempt to jump on your soapbox as if the moral highground was left to you by your rich granny bone. You can't have it both ways , saint and sinner. It's sociopathic or schizophrenic behavior. In either case, your portraying yourself in a disingenuious manner for personal kicks.

I think Arnold said it best in Kindergarten Cop, Thanks for the teep!

Ahem, still in denial I see...:goof:

Shakespeare..., well if that is what you studied. Me thinks thou doth protest too much. Not quite Shakespeare but close enough. You must forgive my ignorance and hurry. Please understand I'm simply a forester who dabbled in history and realized his true calling 1/2 of the way thru his final semester.

Hmmm, never knew my Grand-Parents. Actually, it's very easy to be both Saint and Sinner, several have done it, one simply has to look at the right history book. Remember, in order to address some individuals one has to stoop periodically. What goes round comes round... ;)

God Bless and have a Great day :)

This may have to do about Nancy's own driven drive for power. Is she trying to upsurp the position of the President of the United States. Does she want the Speaker of the House role to be more powerful then the presidents and have the presidents office be secondary to hers. Or is it just her party being funded so much by the arab oil money either directly or indirectly that she is wholly beholden to them and giving the muslim world another public relations victory as well as undermining our own war on terrorism. Remember ABSCAM, if you think this statement does not have any concret to it.

For far to long, I have been ignorant about what goes on in Politics (I still am to some degree) and why...

In the past I've always just ignored Politics and not even formed an opinion... I always thought, ahh it doesn't conceren me, that for the suits, business class and other people different than me to concern with

Recently, over the last few years I've been getting more involved with Politics... Meaning, paying attention, learning, reading, taking it all in and trying to see whats really going on and make my own opinions...

I have really learned alot of the last year or so, but latley I'm getting tired and fed up with the political banter that just seems like school yard arguments...

Both sides completly disagree on everything and will harldy every agree on anyting no matter how trival....

I'm pretty disgusted with all of them... Republicans, Conservative, Dems and Libs....

It seems like all they do is try to block each others progress, scour the current events for the slightest thing negative about the opposing view and then put that under a scope and run it for all its worth...

Then, forums like these, someone that typically leans on way sees something in the news bad about the other side, comes on here and posts it as a dig against the other side, then someone that leans the other way ""HAS"" to respond and before you know it, thread is less political and more of a Flame fest...

I've seen it done, in both directions, here, other forums, and in all the media...

End the end or close to it, it seems to resort in

Sometimes, I'm like whats the use... Maybe I should have stayed ignorant about what goes on... What would I really be missing out on???

It not like me knowing anything or having an opinion is going to change or effect anything...

The people in power in the governent are so caught up in the Political wars, that I don't think they even care that the normal everyday working class citizen exists, except to pay taxes maybe...

This is a pretty partisan observation. Everyone was silent when republican members of congress visited Syria. I know that some people want the office of the president to be strengthened and congress to be weakened. Americans seem to be addicted to authority these days, and desire for strong leadership has replaced desire for limited government. I think visits to other nations by members of congress is a non-event. Hopefully, they will also take away fast track authority from the president in the near future. Also, do you honestly believe the republican party is not receiving oil money? There are no major policy differences between the democratic and republican parties; but everyone likes to choose sides as if this was a football game.

    Smul,
You've come of age at probably one of the most divisive times in poilitical history in the country. Not since the Civil War, and there was nothing civil about it, has this country been so divided. A president is supposed to unite a nation behind worthy causes that benefit the country as a whole. Even though George Bush says he is a Uniter not a Divider, this country is completely polarized under his leadership. He has failed completely to form a consensus with the American electorate, our allies, or even his own party.
We will swing back the other direction with new political leadership either Republican or Democratic eventually but ripple effects from this low point will linger for years to come. When I look at the 2008 presidential candidates, I am looking for someone that talks about common ground different interests have and other themes that bring us all together as a nation. Working together, we can accomplish so much more than we can accomplish while at each others throats.
I would be frustrated if my first political experience was the one we are currently emersed in but remember, there are just cycles that come and go and you've seen how low we can get. Now the only direction left to us is up. Everything from here on out should be easy. :) We can hope so anyway.

Actually, this is incorrect. A president is supposed to follow the Constitution. Once the role is defined as implementing "worthy causes," the nation is well on its way to tyranny since all sorts of Constitutional violations can be justified based on the reasoning that the needs of the country superceed the rights of the individual.

See how easy it is to go wrong?
