I have a better idea. Why don't you guys stay out of any thread that I start and I'll stay out of any thread either of you start. I, like most people here, aren't interested in either of your opinions on any topic anyway. I have already heard them all. You two manage to drive away many people that would have interesting opinions. Stay out of my threads and you'll find that my threads move along nicely and yours will simply be ignored or descend their usual screaming matches with extreme ositions. If you dislike me so much and my political stances just stay away from my posts. Easy solution but I'm guessing your real intentions are to argue argue argue and express more inane opinions by hijacking other members posts. Or are you afraid no one will bother to respond to your threads? :loud: In any case, just get lost!
It's not that I dislike you Moen, but rather find you to be a pathetic old man who can't get his way every time he opens his mouth. I actually feel sorry for individuals like yourself who finds themselves to be so important that they go around telling others what they can or can't do in someone elses forum. I will continue to post in and on any subject allowed to be run in this forum. With or without your permission, which is not now or ever has been needed in the first place. Aren't you ashamed to be acting like some old fool and giving people something to laugh and make fun of. I'll bet your family keeps you locked in the basement and keeps the keys hid. Now drink your warm milk and cover up, get a good nights sleep and you will feel better tomorrow. I'll leave the light on and everything will be O.K. tomorrow, just wait and see. Happy dreams!
As I suspected, your only intention is to argue and spout opinions nobody cares to hear. Now who is pathetic?
Uh, OK, guys... whatever! Anyway, to answer the question that was posed in this thread, I think the Democrats (or NeoLibs as I refer to them) may use this brief window of opportunity to try to seek revenge. The NeoLibs are still upset over the 2000 election and are going to use whatever means necessary to bring down this president or discredit him any which way they can. Instead of using their power for constructive means, they'll fall victim to the same old human foibles that have plagued mankind since the beginning: REVENGE and LUST FOR POWER. The NeoLibs will have the next two years to strut their stuff. Come 2008, I think most people will be fed up with their "stuff" and elect another Republican president and will return the House and Senate to a Republican majority. What most people don't realize is that the Democratic Party is no longer the "party for the working man". It's no longer the party of Harry Truman or even John Kennedy. It's the party of Jimmy Carter and Bill & Hillary Clinton now. It's dominated by ultra-liberal types like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. These types no longer care about social issues; they're only interested in pushing their ultra-liberal agenda. I don't much care for extremists in either party. I usually vote moderate/conservative because that's the way I feel the country should be run. I'm afraid, however, that the voters have given the reins of power over to extremists this time. Fortunately, I believe their day in the sunshine will run its brief course and level heads will prevail in 2008.
Thank you CoinOKC! I think to some extent, you are correct. I, as a Democrat, see a lot of investigations (or/and oversight) in the near future. And to some extent, some of it is long overdue but probably not all of which that we are likely to see. The Democratic party has changed over the last 12 years and longer but to be fair they are the party of change in the first place. The Republican party has also changed as of late and has swung much further to the Right than even Ronald Reagan would have been comfortable with. A while back, I heard a couple of Republican analyst talking heads saying that there would be a public backlash if the party swung too far in the religious right's direction. Turns out that they were right sooner than they thought. I don't care much for the exteme positions at either end of the political spectrum either. Too much misguided passion doing too much damage to both Conservatives and Liberals for my taste. I was also afraid that the reins of power were being handed over to the extremists in 2000 but I was sure that I could tough out 4 years of Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the NeoCons. Look what happened. We've been attacked by foreign extremists on our own soil, we are in quagmire in Iraq, Afghanistan is descending into war again, The government deficit is through the roof, the dollar is down against just about every other currency, the trade gap is ballooning even with a devalued dollar, and Americans are fed up with anything to do with Washington. Do you think any of my fears were realized in the last six years?
Well, it has been a week now since liberal-appeasers (both sides of the aisle) have taken over Congress. I have been listening to what Pelosi and Reid have been saying since their victory and it is pretty clear what is going to happen... For starters, the minimum wage will be increased. We will not have to worry about inflation or high unemployment that accompanies minimum wage increases. The rules that govern a Keynesian economy will no longer apply because the Democrats will be in power. And through the efforts of those who represent the working family (and share in their economic uncertainty, of course), such as John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, people making minimum wage will see an exponential improvement in their lives! That fence we were going to build along the Mexican border. Stop! Those are future democratic voters pouring into our country and sucking our social services dry. After all, we need them. The more people dependent on the government for their existance, the better! These are future democratic voters! National health care, on the Democratic Platform since 1949, will finally become a reality, no matter how astronomical the cost. Government workers are better suited to handle your health care needs over your own doctor so the smartest person in America (Hillary) will determine who, when and what doctor we can see. Stem cell research will be fully funded, thereby allowing Christopher Reeve to rise from his grave. Michael J. Fox can return to "Family Ties". The Democrats took back Congress on the promise of cutting wasteful governmental spending. And even with all this new health care spending and research funding — do that they shall! Iraq will be transformed into what it once was: the garden spot of human civilization. Islamic terrorists will see the wisdom that will emanate from the democratic party and lay down their arms, abandon their jihad against the United States and all Western civilization, and return to their homes. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will be disbanded, since through the leadership of Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid, the Palestinian/Israeli conflict will become a footnote in history. Hands will be held and songs will be sang! Kim Jong Il will step over the starving peasants in North Korea, look up and see the shining face of moderation embodied in the Congress, and give up his nuclear fantasies. This time, it will not even cost the United States a basketball signed by Michael Jordan to seal the agreement. Similarly, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will realize the error of his ways and stop seeking to enrich uranium. In fact, he will feel so happy that Democrats are in power that he will put massive pressure on OPEC and fuel prices will drop. With all this being said, I cannot wait to see how much better my life is in two years of Democratic leadership. If everything they have promised comes true, we may not even have any more elections! We will just have the pomp and circumstance that accompanies a one-party state. All we will have to do is sit back and see how many more ways the government can make us dependent on it. Happy days are here again!
It seems that you are saying this with a grin, but out here in California it is no joke. This is exactly how they are taking over whole districts of this part of the state. With at least 90% of the legals voting for our lady Rep from San Fran. Oh yah! And who are they going to put in control of this program? It wouldn't be old "King of Pork" Robert C. Byrd, now would it? I think the oil companies sent them a message the day after the elections, when the prices went back up!
Hey! If I can make it through 6 years of Bush, you should breeze through 2 years of a Democratic congress. I like that you made predictions based on your experiences and didn't attack anyone else's opinions. That's why I like your posts. You tell the rest of us how you feel without being exclusively opposed to someone else's position. Quote after quote of others posts to express your own opinion isn't debate, it's just being opposed to someone else. That is an obvious given.
I'm going to go against my better judgment and post something in response to the original question. I don't think there is much of a policy difference between the two parties except on the "smokescreen" social issues that exist primarily to deflect attention from larger issues and rally the base on both sides. Both sides practice an interventionist foreign policy [recall Serbia and Somalia]. Both sides favor in practice a huge and growing federal government. The GOP prefers to "pay" for it with debt and the Dems prefer to "pay" for it with taxes. Both sides want large numbers of immigrants to change the character of the nation and help business by putting downward pressure on salaries, differing only in how they get here. Both sides voted for NAFTA, and will vote for CAFTA. Both sides are bought and paid for by corporate interests. Both side are populated at the leadership level by internationalists who willingly fund the UN, IMF, BIS, etc... The list can go on and on. Some of the new democracts in Congress from the mid-west and mountain states seem fairly conservative, and it will be interesting to see how they interact with their counterparts on the coasts in the direction Congress takes. They might not get along as well as people expect. I expect the GOP to purge themselves of the neocons [who will emerge in the future somewhere else in American politics, like "wack-a-mole"] and go back to the traditional core issues that originally got them elected in the early 90s -- balanced budgets, term limits, smaller government. I don't know if this change will take place fast enough to salvage 2008 because the executive still has a lot of clout and will never voluntarily change from the neocon course. It will be interesting to watch, but don't expect miracles.
Yeah, I forgot torture was defined as placing panties on the heads of enemy combatants by unprofessional US soldiers! I sure wish cutting the heads off of Americans would be considered torture again!
Same , Same On Capitol Hill Congress and their staffs take up 35,000 seats plus or minus a few . On " K" Street the Wall Street of the Lobbist there are a few more chairs then 30,000. The same faces will be talking to and paying different people for the same service. Not for you , not for me, but for big business. They think they know what we want, what we should have and how we should pay for it. Until that little game changes you will be diverted by many things to keep you from looking at how things really work. If the current congress takes the sitting President to task, we will be at risk, more then any time, of another attempt to take down our country. Take to task the enemies of this country, who ever they are . Make the punishment swift . We are beyond making other nations happy . If you have a gavel and authority use it in a just manner that follws the Constitution. Protect the Citizens of America fist above all.
