More, more, more.....or enough?

Last night, while my wife was giving music lessons to underprivilged kids at a downtown community center, I sat in the common room & had a conversation about the economy with a few of the parents.
One of them made a comment about "people like me" always wanting "more, more, more". My response was I just wanted to have "enough"....enough to pay my bills, enough to take care of my family so no one else would have to & enough to do things like we were doing that night. What was wrong with that? Of course, she couldn't answer. I explained to her that anything I had done, owned, earned or accomplished never cost her a dime or caused her to miss out on an opportunity. I also told her how much I paid in taxes last year & how much I spent on the music program her children were benefiting from.
I think I changed a few minds in that room last night. It's amazing how people's ideals are shaped by the headlies & sound bites they get from the liberal media.

It's funny how you see yourself in these mental fantasies you always relate. No one ever seems to be able to respond to you with what you consider to be an intelligent response and yet for some reason nobody here ever has that problem. It seems to me that you have completely lost the ability to differentiate between the conversation you have with yourself in your head and reality when you post in this forum.

First off, nice of you to help the underprivileged youth in your area. Try to leave the parents alone though, they don't need your attitude.

Now, I'm sure you feel that you helped those parents by talking about the economy with them, but I doubt they enjoyed it as much as you did. As for her not being able to answer?... Yeah, I could see how you'd think that, you have a knack for viewing yourself as right and "winning" any argument, but I personally doubt those parents were as convinced of your winning the argument as you are.

 

Yes David name calling is against the rules but saying that someone is a Idiot is not calling them a name, it is stating a opinion.
Now your use of "dr moen, phd" Is a childish attempt by you to belittle him. As far as I am aware Moen has never claimed the title of Dr or Phd be added to his screen name.

Two or even three Master's degrees are "higher" than one Master's degree. A law degree is "higher" than a Master's degree. An ABD is "higher" than a Master's degree. An EdD is "higher" than a Master's degree.

Still have not denied it, but I also doubt you have one. (Your university does not list you as a Dr.) BTW, from the info I find, an ABD is not a degree and a edD is a Doctor of Education.

 

I'm more from the right of center and I am wondering why would you want to give money or your wife give time to people who do not like you. There are plenty of working class and lower middle class people who would love to have the opportunity for their kids to have opportunities that they can not afford and would be grateful. Why does everything seem to go to the poor who for the most part, are poor for a reason.

 

ABD means "All but Dissertation", it's not a degree. I didn't say it was a degree but it is a level of education "higher" than a Master's degree. An EdD is a Doctorate of Education but it isn't as "high" as a PhD.

 

She does it for the kids & has for years. All the kids & most of the parents are appreciative, that's not really the point of my post.
See, while my wife is giving a kid lessons, there is a common area for the family to kinda hang out & wait and watch tv . At any given time there are a handful of people waiting & it is common that we strike up a conversation......and those conversations can be very telling. I know dr moen,phd? puts no stock in what real people actually say but I love to carry on conversations with folks from different areas & get their take on different issues.

 

Ok then, if there are people who appreciate then of course it is like giving back to the community or doing God's work on earth. I am not a fan of the left as you can tell, but we truly do need a left to balance things out. Too much left through just makes a U turn backwards.
