Someone asked me this the other day. So I decided to see how you all feel about it. Can you be a moral person without religion. I say yes you can because religion is not what teaches you right from wrong. The other person argued with me and said no you have to have religion to have morals. I have known plenty of people who are not religious that have lots of good morals.
One can absolutely have morals without religion. Hey religion can give one bad morals as well (if you want to call them morals). Look at Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church as an example. I don't exactly admire his "morals".
I was always under the impression morals should be a product of society as defined by the majority of society who has to live under those morals. Hmmm...maybe that's why the rich have their own set of morals and poorer folks another set. No more than 25 limousines per wealthy household (per county, per state) on the right. No fraternizing with people making over 250,000 on the left.
My boss is a devout Baptist, And I am agnostic. His morals and ethics are very lacking, I caught him pocketing tips meant for us employees. I would never think of that behavior. My father in law went to lunch with a friend we had worked for the previous day. The friend said 'I had them cut two trees for me yesterday, they did a great job and I left them a nice tip. My boss was not at the jobsite, but us guys never got a tip. This has happened several times. My boss told me that he has been saved, so it doesn't matter what he does now, he's going to heaven.
God has no Religion so why dew We have to have it to have God? The ruling concept of the Universe is Love: WE-ism - WE are All for One and One for All, for WE are One Love for One and All. Ribbit
I agree that you do not need religion to have morals. I know plenty of people who do not consider themselves religious but have tons of morals.
I've heard it said by many people, and I agree, that a religious person doesn't get their morals from religion either (unless they are a biblical literalist).
