Hardly. There is only the "100%" which encompasses everyone. We're all in this together. Rich, poor, middle-income, etc. there are no "ordinary" folks in this world.

See, that's sort of the way I feel about Obama. He's sitting in his mansion surrounded by his millions and he's totally out of touch with anyone below his income or power level.

As far as I know, outside of his role as a community aggitator, BO has never held a regular job. How could he possibly relate to those of us who have to work for a living?

There is no single monolithic group that can be described as the "99%." In my opinion, that description alone is why the OWS movement has no unifying goal and changes agenda as often as I change socks (okay, I don't wear socks, but that's the most polite piece of clothing I could think of). The needs and opinions of a person who lives on the street and scoops up change from the sidewalk are different from street-corner beggars, although they might both eat by dumpster diving. The children from a two-parent home have different needs from children from single-parent home and children with both birth parents are different from those in blended families and those who were adopted. Middle-aged people have different needs from young adults and from the elderly, although they're all over the age of majority. Every single group has different financial concerns and different health concerns and *every single person is different*. There is no way to homogenize them into "the 99%" because the relationship between that large a number of people is mythical.

I would buy the argument that the majority of people are not making the majority of the money in this country. However, the majority of people also make an income sufficient to their needs and live quite comfortably over the length of their lives. I personally have struggled over the last ten years, but I feel no affinity with the people who claim to be speaking for me with their movement and I suspect that a good portion of the "99%" feel the same way. What I find most disturbing about the "99%" claim is that as the OWS movement continues, the groups seem to be reduced from the original population of protestors to being nothing more than camps for the homeless who would use any excuse to appear "legitimate" and avoid being arrested for vagrancy.

So no, there is no 99%. Sorry. It's a myth.

Hey, do you mind passing some of what you're smoking on to the rest of us? I guess rich people aren't the only one's out of touch with reality.

And yet he worked as a community organizer. Did Romney ever do any community work other than pushing the Book of Mormon?

You too often speak from an uninformed position but at least you are consistent.

After high school, Obama studied at Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years. He then transferred to Columbia University in New York, graduating in 1983 with a degree in political science. After working in the business sector for two years, Obama moved to Chicago in 1985. There,
he worked on the South Side as a community organizer for low-income residents in the Roseland and the Altgeld Gardens communities.

    Law Career

It was during this time that Obama, who said he "was not raised in a religious household," joined the Trinity United Church of Christ. He also visited relatives in Kenya, which included an emotional visit to the graves of his biological father and paternal grandfather. "For a long time I sat between the two graves and wept," Obama said. "I saw that my life in America—the black life, the white life, the sense of abandonment I felt as a boy, the frustration and hope I'd witnessed in Chicago—all of it was connected with this small plot of earth an ocean away."
Obama returned from Kenya with a sense of renewal, entering Harvard Law School in 1988. The next year, he met Michelle Robinson, an associate at Sidley & Austin law firm in Chicago. She was assigned to be Obama's adviser during a summer internship at the firm, and soon the couple began dating. In February 1990, Obama was elected the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law Review, and he graduated magna cum laude in 1991.
After law school, Obama returned to Chicago to practice as a civil rights lawyer, joining the firm of Miner, Barnhill & Galland. He also taught at the University of Chicago Law School, and helped organize voter registration drives during Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign. On October 3, 1992, he and Michelle were married. They moved to Kenwood, on Chicago's South Side, and welcomed two daughters: Malia (born 1998) and Sasha (born 2001).

Interesting. What was his job in the "business sector" during those two years?

Let's see, a professional writer, a lawyer and partner in a law firm, a community organizer, an elected official, yeah the guy has no experience at all. All while putting himself through school with no help from mommy and daddy. Wonder if Romney could make such a claim?

Plus I believe Obama's mother needed food stamps for a bit to feed the family. And don't pretty much all Presidents live in a mansion during their tenure? I don't think you can fault him for that. I suppose he could have rented a three-bedroom apt with a covered parking space out in the burbs, but he chose to go with tradition in this respect.
