It's a pity that we haven't had a contribution from anyone who has served in the fire brigade. The fireys are as important as the Police & the ambulance services are.

Oh please. Thats tripe. Why not boy scouts too. Just because someone dons a uniform doesnt make them special. Its the intergrity of the man. His character, not his pants. And what the heck is a firey? why i knew of a guy who was an EMT, got arrested for sexually assaulting woman while in the ambulance. some hero, huh? Or how bout those two NYC detectives, who for 15 years worked for the mafia. I'm sure they were affected by 9/11., but still dirtbags.

This conversation is surreal. But I will spare you the melting clocks.

What about the soldiers that commit attrocities in Iraq and countless other My Lai-type incidents? Does that make the rest of the soldiers unworthy?

Like I've said many times, there are lots of ways to serve your country, the military is only one of them. I hope that you aren't arrogant enough to believe that serving your country is a hierarchy with military serve at the top. That would be a foolish and arrogant assumption.

am I wrong, or do nearly all police work for a city or county? I've never heard of a national police force. and I'm pretty sure firefighters dont take an oath to defend the constitution. Like i said, maybe I'm wrong.

The average elected official takes an oath to defend the constitution. It isn't even taken all the seriously by most of them. If you still believe that an oath to the constitution is what sets the military apart from the rest of those that serve this country in any number of real ways, I guess that is your opinion.
I happen believe that there are any number of hard working teachers, policemen, firefighters, doctors, and other folks that make this country great on a daily basis and I never hear them try to apply a hierarchy to the services they contribute. They just go to work everyday work their behinds off and don't ask for recognition for doing so, much less two national holidays to recognize their efforts. They are certainly up there in my hierarchy.

Like my signature says, I did 26 years in the Air Force. Not a flyer, I sat in darkened rooms in front of an equipment rack, stood behind the podium as an Instructor, and behind a desk as a Military Training Leader, Resource Advisor, Flight Superintendent, and First Sergeant. Does that make me any better than anyone else, nope. Would I go back in, if they'd let me? In a heartbeat. For now, I guess I'll have to be satisfied working as an Air Force civilian employee.

Craig, the term 'Firey' is an Australian slang term for a firefighter.By the way, what's an EMT? Your remarks about the Boy Scouts is a bit on the nose,as I served as a Six Leader in the Cub Scouts over here.I certainly learnt a few things in there.Every organisation has its bad eggs,as it were,so you shouldn't tar every member of that organisation with the same brush.

Is this what the Navy calls their medical corpsman in todays Navy? Or is this something you do now that you are out?

Craig, nothing changes the fact that you are a w*****! I've met your two-faced type of people before. They say one thing & do another.

By Jove Aidan, I think you've found it!
    Definition:
W***** is normally intended as a general insult rather than as an accusation. W***** has similar meanings and overtones to American pejoratives like "jerk","jerk-off", and "prick". One particular connotation is of someone self-obsessed or a show-off (usually male).

    Abusive words will be terminated

OldDan,we use the word 'w*****r' over here very often. In fact, that is my favourite term of abuse, considering that the Pope of Rome IS the biggest w***** on the face of this planet! I can't understand why the President of America went to see the Hell-bound Nazi scumbag.

    Aidan.

Aidan It would be appreciated if you moderated your language
