John,I knew the guy who was commanding No. 5 Wellington,West Coast,& Taranaki Regiment from 1988 until he retired from the Army in 1992.I first met him shortly after he was decorated by the then Governor-General of the Dominion,Sir Paul Reeves (who I met in late 1999 & early 2001) with the O.B.E. (Military Division).I tried to join the Territorials myself in late 1994,but was rejected on medical grounds.I had served as a Six Leader in the Fordell Cub Pack (which no longer exists) back in 1988.I was to later come out in total opposition to the illegal occupation of Moutoa Gardens in 1995.Even after Sir Michael Hardie Boys became Governor-General,I still hold a very strong hatred of the Maori Nationalists (who are,by the way, hated by most Maoris themselves).Sir Michael actually looked to me for support,& I agreed to give him advice.I told him a few things about how subhuman Tariana Turia & her fellow Maori Natonalist lowlifes really are.My family would have supported a revolt had the Moutoa Gardens occupation lasted longer than the 80 days it did.

John, you may not be aware,my family & I are very fierce Royalists, considering that Jim 'Bulging' Bolger the Sinn Fein/I.R.A. supporter & friend of the Pope of Rome was a scumbag, who is still hated in Wanganui.Bolger sold us out down the river.Helen Clark has done the same thing. These braindead politicians are scumbags who've been around too long.

Steve, when you were in Ulster, did you ever have contact with the Ulster Volunteer Force & the Ulster Defence Association,as well as with the Royal Ulster Constabulary? You would have got the General Service Medal with 'NORTHERN IRELAND' inscribed on the bar.Am I right? I believe that the loyal British people of Ulster have been betrayed by both the British & Irish Governments,as they demanded that Ian Paisley share power with the mass murderers of Sinn Fein/I.R.A. in the same way that they demanded the same thing from David Trimble (now Lord Trimble).

Alwayslost, what does 'E-6' mean? I don't understand the U.S. military rank system at all.I am very familiar with the British rank system, which is the same as ours, but we don't have any Field Marshals like the British & Aussie armies do.

To keep it simple, an E-5 is the best rate in the Navy along with Lt. Commander (least amount of work). At E-6 you have to lead people. An E-1 is a recruit that is in basic training or someone in military prison. It goes up from there. The designation E means enlisted pay grade.

Alwayslost, what ship did you serve on? Having a Tartar deck it would have to be a Destroyer or Cruiser.

I served on three Guided Missile Destroyers, the one I served on in 1972 was USS Somers DDG-34. If you search the web for USS Somers DDG-34 (with Yahoo search engine) then the home page is usually the first link given. I should add, don't search too deep at that site because there is some dirty laundry.

E-5 here. jo/2. all but one year aboard the Mahan ddg42..flagship of the 4th fleet. and what a bucket. and you know always...if its rusty...paint it. Aidan, our ranks start at one. E for enlisted..O for officer. So E-5 is a sargeant in the army and petty officer 2nd class in the navy. Alwayslost you got out as I went in. and you know as well as I do..there were alot of guys in who werent heroes...some were douchebags and thieves.

Always glad to answer a young friend's question:
United States Navy - regular. June 1943 to Aug 1946 w/ honorable discharge after being released from the Navy Hospital in San Diego, California.
Served aboard the SS237 'Trigger' until sunk in the E. China sea in 1945.
POW until shortly before Sep 1945 and VJ day. Transported back to California.
Worked up to the rank of Petty officer 2nd. class with a left arm rating of TM
As I remember I was payed $144/mo. and that included the 50% hazardus duty pay.

Any other questions craig old buddy?

I never served in the military.

The day after I graduated High School, I went into the law enforcement field and have been there ever since. I've been shot at and stabbed at. I've been spat on and bled on. I've seen my share of mangled bodies and of children who've been abused and raped. I've had to tell mothers and fathers that their kids will never be coming home. In the middle of the night on lonely roads, I've stopped cars that were filled with men who had very little to lose. I've seen a boy nailed to a wooden cross with his head cut off by his own mother because the "voices" told her to do it.

I guarantee you that anything you could see or do in the military, I've seen or done it. So, no, I didn't serve in the military, but I think I've given this country my all... and I'd do it again.

I'm glad to be a flag waving pussy!

In my book you are a 'vet' in every sense of the word. I'm glad we had people like you and will never look down on one of our men in law inforcement. Count your self as one of the troop, as far as I'm concerned.

I can't hold a candle to you, OldDan. I can't even begin to express my gratitude to our Armed Forces personnel and veterans. Without them, our Constitution, laws, ideals and our very way of life is just fluff in the wind.

I salute you every day I'm able to sit down at my keyboard in this great country of ours and express my thoughts and feelings.
