He was partially right...I do live in a cornfield. :mouth:

[e.g., using everyone instead of every one] Not to mention "your" instead of "you're" but I digress.

Fine you want the bad things to stop then demand we stop the good things as well. In fact, demand America do NOTHING for anyone, anywhere, anytime, for any reason. When a country freindly to our government needs arms to put down an illegal rebellion thumb your nose at them, when a country needs food because their crops were destroyed tell them we're out, when a country needs money to rebuild itself after a disaster strikes, give them the finger and tell them to print more of their own, we are not the world's ATM. Countries exist to further their own interests and do everything in their power to keep themselves viable; and wars are fought for three reasons, political, economical, and religious. If the US can't throw some good will and food and arms and etc to continue our dominance on top someone else will. And there is no guarantee that they will be as benevolent as we are. Sure we take from countries and set up US freindly governments, but as the only superpower we could easily go in with all our military might take what we want, kill all those who oppose us, annex their sh$#^@y pieces of land and fly our flag over them as protectorates. In fact we are one of the first countries that hasn't done that repeatedly in our 200+ years of history.

ROTFLMAO, "Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you up with experience..." But seriously these military-industrial complex's you dislike so much are many times NOW also used as staging areas to feed the 4 corners of the world where these Economically Displaced refugees (who bred themselves into the situation they're in) are at.

you are = You're. Its called Irony. In geralde61 superior vocabulary its really really really really really ironic. No geralde61...irony does not mean made entirely of iron.

I'm also not certain that "stupidest" is a correct use of the superlative, and shouldn't be "most stupid" either. I thought that -est could only be added to multi-syllable words when they ended in -y. Plus there is the issue of the missing commas.

I'm not naming names here but, I seem to have a knack for attracting dim-witted Conservatives. Certainly not that all Conservatives are dim-witted, I've met plenty of Republicans that could argue me into a box without breaking a sweat, but those that do lack anything other than vitriolic rhetoric seem to gravitate towards me like a lightening rod.

In this instance, a self-proclaimed lurker attacked my opinions, my grammar and my intelligence without ever having been part of the current conversation and didn't even bother to comment on the topic of the thread. Even when I confront Liberals about their opinions, I don't get this type of response. This is unique to the Rush Limbaugh crowd.

This topic has almost nothing to do with either political party except that each has continued a dysfunctional foreign policy in their own way but the result has been the same. Maybe it's just not possible for some to be at all critical of their own government's inadequacies or even tolerate others being critical of those shortcomings.

I will continue to express my opinion right or wrong as it may be inspite of those that can't tolerate opposing viewpoints. I figure it is their problem not mine if all they can believe is what they are told. I guess that brings me back to the lemming comparison.

Please go back to the original post and read the definition of the MIC's. You'll find that your statement makes no sense. The military industrial complex isn't a brick-and-mortor military base, it's network of weapons suppliers, branches of the military, and government agencies. Maybe I should just take your advice.

    Moen,

Things start to make more sense when you realize that the old 20th century political divisions related to conservative vs liberal and republican vs democrat don't really apply anymore although the media, and even the participants, continue to use them. The free-spending republicans out there fighting wars of liberation that would make the old Communists proud aren't conservatives. Some of the new democratic representatives from the midwest aren't liberal. You get strange mixtures of republicans and democrats supporting and opposing the war. Will Lieberman turn republican or just continue to talk like one? It can be very confusing.

Things make more sense when you realize there are two new factions out there -- nationalists and globalists. They aren't organized around those themes, but they sure fit the description.

Anyway, I consider the whole liberal-conservative discussion to be outdated 20th century politics which no longer apply.

Hmmm...I have to disagree...certainly maybe what is considered a liberal and conservative goes along a spectrum but there are certainly what one would call conservatives and liberals...remember those titles dont just have to do with spending...often times they have to do with where and how they spend...and moral view points and the job of government.

There are droves of what I would call liberals that want to spend my tax dollars on all kinds of entitlement programs and call for more tax (how anyone could is beyond me) They hold what I would call liberal moral views.

There are droves of conservatives...while they spend...they do not spend on entitlements but other things like defense...they are for less tax (although they still spend) they hold conservative moral views...etc...

Although some might not fit into the narrow partisan scope...MANY do...not only do they but the reality of the situation is that is how they see themselves and that is all that matters in practice...If they group themselves as liberal and conservative...then liberal and conservative, as it pertains to US political views...shift to fit that.

But in the end...here in Texas...there are, without a doubt...MANY people that fit very cozy and well into 'conservative' and I have experience MANY people who are very much at home in the label 'liberal' as one would traditionally view them.

While I agree that partisan bickering is bad for the nation...in many way its good...sometimes its best to make slow to no progress than to make fast progress by a faulty unified government...deadlock can be good...and the US is as partisan as ever.

I think things make more sense if you just wake up in the morning and forget entirely about Republicans and Democrats and just accept that we live in an imperial empire and such differences as political affiliations are just distractions. Throughout history, the citizens of various empires in overwhelming numbers considered the foreign nations that their armies subjugated to be welcoming and enlightened by their occupation. I could give example after example of the naive attitudes of these societies.

When a nation stops growing be it economically or political power, war is an extension of politics and politcs protects ones ecomonics, then that nation begins to die.
People accept that as a fact of business, eat or be eaten - expand or be taken over- grow or die, yet so many do not see it in the sense of the world.
I rather my nation be the Wallmart, the Cosco, the Bank of America, The Loews Movie Theatre Complex's, The Home Depots of the international community, especially for what we stand for, then the old mom and pop store that is fading away.........if not gone already in your neighborhood alreay.
