why are they so convinced the govt gets its jollies telling people to wear masks?

 

I wanted to pose a question to @GeneWright. He seems to have quite a knowledge base on this Covid mess we are all dealing with and I genuinely appreciate his insight..... I have said before, it really disturbs me to put my girl on the bus each morning. Yesterday her school district announced over 300 cases of Covid among students. And it just eats me up inside that I cannot protect her from this thing. So actually I have two questions to pose.

Does it appear we are any closer to immunizing children? And secondly, as a non-medically minded person looking from the outside in.... Last summer we were talking about vaccinations and herd immunity. This summer it seems this new Delta variant is running even more rampant than before. Is the idea of herd immunity now out the window? Will Covid be a part of our lives from here forward do you think?

remote learning

homeschooling or tutoring

private school with a mask mandate (most of the anti vaxx republicans handle their kids this way)

 

I'm not the one to answer MD but if you look at history (Spanish flu) we'll have some type of Covid forever now.
As for your girl, can you possibly home school?
I believe interaction is better but man I just can't imagine what you're going through sending her to school everyday not knowing how safe it is.

Well…. Unless either my wife or I choose to put our careers aside, that can’t happen. And at our age with retirement looming nearby, setting aside a career wouldn’t be very prudent. But with things as they are, it isn’t off the table either.

 

How old is your daughter now? I think you can get it as young as 12 now in South Carolina. Unfortunately I think it'll be a long time still before we go younger than that.

As for the other question, it's starting to look like this will always be around in some form. It mutates so quickly and has many animal reservoirs, so there may be a yearly vaccine like the flu shot. The good news though is that when diseases like flu, HIV, and pretty much any new illness first pop up, the case fatality rate is always really high at the beginning and drops rapidly as we develop new treatments and standards of care. So while it may be around for a while yet, we should be better able to manage it in the coming years and continue life normally while co-existing.

The government doesn't, it's the crooks running our government who do.

 

Just read pfizer is expected to submit their application to give the vaccine to 5-11 year olds before the end of September. Once they submit it, a decision will be made within 3 weeks, so it could be available to younger children in mid October

What amazes me is...neither you nor @JoeNation have any understanding or appreciation for the U.S. Constitution. Can either of you recite (with conviction) the Pledge of Allegiance? I don't think you can. None of my "former" Liberal friends can, either.

friend's mom and dad are anti vax. dad died over the weekend and mom in the hospital.

they sure showed us
