I replied to this quote on a UK political forum and would like to discuss on a world level, these are my thoughts would love to hear yours: I think the implications for this cover all types of media and are even more apparent nationally than locally. I forget who said "Media is the new Religion". In religion people are in drilled from a very young age to believe in something they might not know a lot about, yet they base their life and morals around it. The same pattern can be seen with the media, we see people accepting and trusting the media, they see media as the truth and a fact.....but when viewed objectively with an upassive mind this is obviously far from the truth. Roosevelt said if their was a TV in every room, the country would not elect a man in a wheelchair as president. Due to media a man/woman has to look a certain way, speak a certain way and appease the views of the mass media or they can not possibly get elected. A truthful politition is forced to lie or he can not get elected. Due to our belief in the media it not possible to have a Primeminister who is not a liar and this is the fault of us the voter and our belief in the media. In short I believe once a media reaches a critical mass they should be legislated to report the facts and the truth only. We live in a day where The Sun newspaper can all but ensure who they wish to be in power at any given election. I'm not convinced local media has this amount of clout but the same basic facts apply. JJ
Nope, I think once they have a critical mass audience they should be legislated to do so. Does News International have much of a media hold on the United States?
Just look up Rupert Murdoch And News Corp, they are the 3rd Largest media conglomerate on the planet behind Disney & Time Warner in 2009 things might have changed a bit this year
