Coin, Obama wanted to close Gitmo, after people demanded it. As he tried to close it, the people began leaning towards not closing it. Eventually, after realizing he wasn't going to be able to close it... and that more people were against the closing now than they were previously, especially the idea of the detainees being brought to America, he dropped the issue. Now he says Gitmo is vital to our national security. You call that flip-flopping. I don't. The other facts being left out are that the base was not going to be closed, only the three detainee camps. The prisoners would then be located elsewhere... in the U.S. or another country... but gitmo was never in danger of closing. This is a mispoken phrase, and an easily mispoken phrase. Another fact is that one Camp had already been closed (in 2002 I think), Camp X-Ray by Jr. Was that a flip flop? He put detainees in there right? Then closed it. I don't think it is, but you guys might... if Jr. was a Democrat. I never called the justices in the Supreme Court dumb, you assumed that on your own. I called anyone who called for the Gitmo to be closed, and the interpretations of that phrase dumb... because it wasn't being proposed. What was being proposed was the removal of detainees from the prisons there. It was a dumb phrase from the start. It was misleading and is still confusing people to this day. That's how it's dumb.
Man, you can sure twist things, can't you. Now you are saying BO did not say what he was televised and recorded saying. BO exact words "I have said repeatedly that I intend to close Guantanamo and I will follow through on that". Which word did you not understand, close or Guantanamo? "You call that flip-flopping. I don't." He used to say "I intend to close Guantanam" and he said that more than once and he "Now he says Gitmo is vital to our national security" (your words). I would appreciate YOUR definition of "flip-flopping" that can remotely exclude that as "flip-flopping".
WOW...all I can say is WOW. I would have to imagine moen is feeling a bit uncomfortable right about now (as his co-poster wiggles & squirms his way through this subject). Save him moen, save him!
Now, IQ<1, that's a pretty lame response even for you. In the modern lexicon "closing Guantanamo" means to close the detainee camps located AT Guantanamo, NOT Guantanamo itself! Why in the world would we want to close the base there? Who ever proposed that? During the '08 campaign, Obama continuously stated that he wanted to "close Guantanamo" and everyone on the planet (except you it seems) knew that he meant the detainee camps. Obama stated that, in order to uphold the principles of the Constitution, the detainees needed to be brought to the U.S. to be tried in civilian courts instead of being tried by military commissions. Well, Obama first stated he was going to close Guantanamo (again: the detainee camps NOT the base itself). Then he reversed that decision and went back on his principles by continuing the practice of the previous administration (something he was adamantly against during the campaign). That is what is known as a "flip-flop" anyway you want to spin it. Do you honestly think Obama was swayed in such a principled decision by poll numbers or, as you put it, "more people were against the closing now"? Something that he apparently, openly and repeatedly stated that he believed in during the campaign (the principles of the Constitution) apparently evaporated after he became president because "more people were against it" now? That's absolutely incredible! If that is truly the case, it shows an extreme lack of discipline and fortitude on his part. Rather, I think "closing Guantanamo" was a good sound bite during the campaign, but he never had any intention of closing the detainee camps. No matter how you look at it, it's still a flip-flop. Admit it and move on.
.......and, if BO is so swayed by polls, how in the heck do we have Obamacare? BO dropped that turd on us even though the citizenry & Congress (both parties) were against it.
Most of the confusion is caused by intentional misquotes of his actual words by people who lie a lot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guantanamo_Bay_detention_camp It would help if you'd stop spreading disinformation.
You had better re-read that article. It reinforces everything I've been saying. I think you're spinning so much that you don't know which way you're facing anymore.
You need to have a sit-down with moen so he can get your propaganda straight...it's obvious you are spinning out of control
Wiki states But the words directly from the referenced site are; So what you have documented so well is a so but complete flip-flop.
So you are telling me that Wiki rewording by some unknown party trumps the sited original reference give by Wiki? BTW, it is number 220
How interesting. You will not even read your own reference. i.e., what you have in your mind is the only thing that will ever be correct to you. I makes no difference what really happened. So why are you bothering to discuss anything here? It won't change your mind anyway.
The lead item on you quote actually says; Do you really have a clue what that 220 means? It is the reference from where the rest of the quote supposedly came from. The reference quotes BO's exact words. They are exactly as I quoted above; I have changed nothing. However, it definitely appears that whoever wrote that blurp for Wiki definitely changed something. Now, considering that the reference is a documented credible source written at the time BO spoke and includes a video of him saying those exact words while Wiki was written by some unknown, just who do you think has the most credibility?
IQ<1, you're acting like a child with your incessant, repetitious postings. If you can't debate, then just admit it. You don't have a leg to stand on and you know it. Quite sad, actually.
