That is the only correct vote, by popularity, and immediately revokes the other 2 choices. However, doing so reduces the popularity of the alcohol vote, because approximately 79% of society smokes tobacco or marijuana when imbibing, and will now be prevented from doing so. So.....back to the vote.
It took a long time to figure out that cigarettes caused cancer . . . Sounds like apples and wishful thinking to me.
This thread has far more to do with common courtesy than it does generational bias. I’m no less disappointed in a boomer or in a Korean War vet who inconsiderately smokes either weed or cigarettes in close proximity of others. Stop speaking out both sides of your mouth Democrat.
Why is it a not common courtesy and inconsiderate? It certainly is not because the person thinking it is inconsiderate because they are concerned with the health of the person smoking. What is the personal disappointment you feel? I also don't get the Korean War Vet thing, but
Unhealthy, or not, inhaling smoke is unnatural, and not comfortable for those who have not learned to/ trained themselves to do so. Expecting others to do so, simply because one wishes to smoke wherever they please is inconsiderate and, therefore discourteous. The Korean War vet was mentioned simply to demonstrate a lack of reference to the younger generations in pointing out this inconsiderate behavior, same as why I referenced boomers. The only reason I didn’t reference WW2 vets is because dingbat democrats would have pointed to days gone by, and a generation that no longer exists.
Understand on the Vet issue. I was certain you meant that, but there are viewers here that practice whataboutism. The first paragraph...well, we will most likely never agree. I don't imbibe alcohol. I am not fond of the odor at all. Is it inconsiderate of others to imbibe in close proximity to me? I understand the comfortability factor. The reverse of that is, I am VERY uncomfortable when someone coughs or sneezes in close proximity to me, even if using a Kleenex/handkerchief, etc. Is that inconsiderate? The individuals that experience the discourtesy collectively benefit form the tobacco taxes, as do I from the alcohol taxes. I am VERY sensitive to Firearms noises...very much so. I live in the mountains. It is obviously frequent. A very uncomfortable reaction of anxiety occurs, and I experience an intake of breath and very slight momentary palpitation. I will never get used to it. Is it inconsiderate of the persons using the firearms? My point is, the rush to criticize others for their habits is inconsiderate, and is quite frequent these days, and is exclusionary at minimum, and demeaning at maximum.
While I don’t drink a lot, I do enjoy an occasional dark beer or glass of wine. I have to admit, I don’t ordinarily smell alcohol, unless of course, someone is completely in the drink, so to speak. That is a turn-off for me as well. I acknowledge your anxiety over the report of firearms Charley. It is an unfortunate by-product of combustion. Perhaps all users of firearms should be using silencers, much like mufflers are required on automobiles? Regarding sneezing in the proximity of others, that is a natural physiological reaction as old as is mankind, and not some unnaturally adopted behavior. I think we’re pretty well stuck with that one. I don’t rush to criticize others, but when hypocrites jump all over public cigarette smokers while defending their right do same with weed, it’s time to fight for fairness.
Amen.... The hypocrisy in all forms should be brought to light and once again be frowned upon rather than put on a pedestal as some holier than thou platform.
I am in complete agreement with the last paragraph, on principle. The second paragraph....silencers would obviously be a hell of a lot more dangerous to society for many hopefully obvious reasons. But, the root of the anxiety will never be something that those that experience it will acclimate to. It just is. I do not consider the source - the Firearm- to be discourteous or inconsiderate of the user of same. I think that is the common ground we may build upon. Stuff happens. Different people have different responses to issues. My line is when the responses trigger a social condemnation to a level of exclusion of the person supposedly practicing what the offended considers a social faux pas, to the level of public ridicule, yet enjoys the benefit of same in some manner-taxes, as an example. Or. the tsktsk old guy ( or woman) that observes the female anatomy attired in very short skirt and tank top and publicly proclaims it is discourteous, but in private thinks "...I sure miss the 60s...". The hypocrite factor, I guess, is what I am conveying.
Why not do the UNITED STATES a big favor and GET EDUCATED about politics. Informed democrats, conservatives, independents, Marxists, and liberals add zest to life's discussions. The flip side of the ignorant nonsense you bring to this forum (mostly from fake news readers)IS OUT THERE when you take a spoon of Geritol, get off the couch and look for it. PS My farther warned me about the decline of brain cells you are continuously showing around here.
Charley, just so there is no misunderstanding, my silencer comment was purely tongue-in-cheek, meant to get a rise out of the other side of the aisle . . . guess my humor sometimes misses the mark.
I DEFINITELY understood that, and tried to emulate your humor level (and also failed). Consider that if all firearms has silencers, there would be nobody to blame. Wait a minute...now that I think about it...
The culture ebbs and floes. I don't mind people smoking cigarettes around me generally speaking. But grandma taking off her oxygen tank to smoke a butt is too much. I do smoke marijuana, partially because I can smoke weed at 18 here but can't drink, smoke a cigarette, or vape (ew) until 21. Truly idiotic. Lets be real here - the culture is shifting because folks are seeing the health problems of lifetime smokers in their families and friends. At least smoking pot, you get a bit more out of it. Less tar, better taste, and not enough long term research to show how much it effects your body. What they don't know won't hurt them
