Exactly, if you haven't done the homework, or know the issues, you really shouldn't vote. Hopefully most of the people interviewed on the clip don't vote.

For the same reason we let anyone that wants to have kids. Voting without educating oneself on the issues is a lot like people having baby's without a clue how to raise kids. They both get better at it over time as the need arises.

You should read a few books on the corporatism of academia. Or read the article I posted in another thread.

But in this case, we are just not FORCING them to vote just like we don't force everyone to have kids.

If I am forced to vote, then I am going to vote for every third party wacko on the ballot. The crazier the better. I will encourage others to do likewise, just like lying to pollsters. Don't ever underestimate how your little rules can be turned and twisted against you.

Liberals, socialists, communists and nazis are the masters of unintended consequences. Unless liberals can insidiously take away the right to vote somehow (the way they've instilled socialism via Obamacare), they will never get the Constitution amended. Not that it can't be done, mind you. If they really want to take a way the right to vote, they'll chip away at it for a loooooong time. The progressives started chipping away around 100 years ago and look at all the socialist ideals they've accomplished: Social Security (going broke), Medicaid (going broke), liberal professors in colleges (brainwashing youth), Obamacare (literally forcing people into a socialist program).

Socialists would love to take away your right to vote and, subsequently, make it mandatory to vote. By forcing people to vote, they bring out those who are ignorant and would vote for a "pretty face" as it were.

We only have on party that uses the excuse of voter fraud to disenfranchise 100's of thousands of voters and we only have one party that is known for voter registration drives. That tells you everything you need to know about why either party would be for or against mandatory voting rules. One party doesn't want everyone to vote and the other believes that the more people that vote, the better our democracy will be.
We all know as soon as voter participation starts approaching 60%, Republican's chances of winning take a nose dive. The only reason the 2014 election was such a good year for Republicans was because we had a 36% voter turnout. A minority of stupid voters already vote, what's the difference if even more voters turned out and some of them were uninformed on the issues? It's really no different than what goes on in the GOP RIGHT NOW.

Nor do we FORCE ALL (?!?) people to have an abortion.

However, I will bet they have to show their ID before they get that abortion!

Follow these comments in the order they happened if you can....

    I state:
    You state:
    I state:
    You state:
That in no way counters what I said. Restricting abortion rights does force women to have kids. Saying that we do not force all women to have an abortion is relevant how? Unless you are comparing mandatory voting to mandatory abortions which would last about one generation for obvious reasons.

    OK moving on.

Anyway, as I said, online voting, a "none of the above" option, and a voting holiday would go a long way to increasing voter turnout if that is what you want in the first place. However, if your goal is to restrict voting, disenfranchise minorities, the elderly, and low income voters, the current system works just fine. No need to change a thing. For some reason, given all the self-congratulatory chest beating that went on after the last election, lower voter turnout is just fine with one party for a very self-serving reason. They probably believe that it gives them a mandate and express approval of their positions but nothing could be further from the truth. Show me an election with 80 plus percent turnout and then I will concede a mandate.

Unless I need a refresher on liberal sex, there is usually a voluntary preface to requiring abortions. And, at the present time there are still no restrictions (possible exception of age - just like voting) on early abortions.

Now let me see. Who would have trouble with online voting? Oh, that's right. The minorities, the elderly, and low income voters. BTW, just how much did it cost for that Obamacare program? And the last time I heard, it remains one of the least safe marketing accesses out there.
Now just who would that help? Most of the "low income" are already out of work. Most of the minorities are low income and thus fit under the previous line. (You can thank Obama for that.) Most of the elderly are retired so obviously out of work.

Are you sure you are barking up the right tree?

While we're forcing uneducated and uninformed people to vote, why don't we force 5 year olds to vote too? They probably know just as much about politics.

As Republicans I'm sure. For a person that has never voted, you sure have a lot of opinions about it.

I see pros and cons myself.

I would love to see more parties actually have a voice. I've been saying it for years.

That being said it's a much deeper question if one thinks about it.

If we "suddenly" had a law requiring voting I do believe you would see a Democratic edge and probably more. As well as third parties.

However, it might not last that long.

The media would be all over it.

I think that would be the problem. Those politically ignorant (the non-voters today) would be swayed by what they hear. Advertizing would be the determinate of the election - i.e. he who has the most money wins.

open carrying a firearm prevents rape, and i don't see why you can't abstain from incest.

Yes, of course, guns are the answer to incest, rape, vitamin D deficiency, cloudy days, gravity, or any other problem in the universe. If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

That's it. Guns are the answer. How about voter gun ranges where you have to shoot the check box to cast the vote. One shot, one vote. I think this might slightly tilt towards the Republicans, however if you want to vote for an independent, you'll have to hit a check box the size of a BB.
