We should kill, that is what we are doing, kill a thousand repeated murders, child sex abusers, drug laundering bankers, etc.. a week and after a few months we would then see a real drop in violent crime, children would be safe to walk the streets again, and a real war on drugs. When I say kill, I mean right after the appeals which should take no longer then a month process. Sidenote: With this said, cases where the accussed may die should not be brought to trail with a joke of a lawyer public defendant or a court appointed one but from money set aside for the defended to hire his or her own lawyer. Cost more in short term but would save money and protect the innocent in the long term.
Why do you guys have such a hatred of lawyers? BTW, the jury system was originally intended so that judges wouldn't hand out verdicts totally unchecked. And, as for your visions of trials where the biggest ego wins, you need to stop watching CSI and CourtTV. Have you ever seen a trial (by judge or jury) in a normal (not California) courtroom that doesn't involve a m(b)illionaire defendant?
It is because of trial lawyers like former Sen. John Edwards that "sued and settled" himself into prosperity. Take a "have you been hurt or injured?" case and these lawyers take anywhere from 30 to 50% of the award. Most of the time, defendents will settle because the cost of going to court, their attorney fees, along with the possiblity of having an anti-business jury is just too much to fight. So these cases care settled, no matter how frivulous the case may be, and the trial lawyer walks away with his 30 to 50% extortion fee. This is why you will never see the left and lawyers agree to "loser pays" legislation where if you are sued and you win a baseless lawsuit, then you will be able to recover YOUR attorney and court fees that you sepnt trying to defend these riduculous lawsuits. Also, you will never see the left propose any lottery-settlement caps on these lawsuits. After all, this is how these attornies make their income. With 5% of the world's population and 90% of the world's attornies, it is no wonder that people in the United States hate lawyers that make a living by suing individuals and companies for their 30 to 50% take. It is extortion and unfortunately, it is perfectly legal.
Because he handled many cases, that automatically makes them all frivoulous? Most of the time? You've got to be kidding. And an anti-business jury? Some jurors these days can barely spell the afore-mentioned  quote, much less be so opinionated. Thinking about this for one second, Fl. has something similar to this THAT IN FACT FAVORS THE DEFENDANT IF HE PROVES HIS CASE. In that case, maybe you should just represent yourself instead of hiring an attorney???
I am against the death penalty, but since that is the law of the land in which he commited his crimes, he should not be spared. At least he had time to get his charity work started. It's not like he's needed now to keep it going.
Most of the time? You've got to be kidding. And an anti-business jury? Some jurors these days can barely spell the afore-mentioned  quote, much less be so opinionated. The vast majority of lawsuits are settled well before going to court. It is the reason why billions are spent each year by companies in settlements instead of gambling with a judge and "lottery-settlement" jury. Even if the defendent is 100% clear, the cost of hiring their own lawyer(s), court costs, time and headache is an extortion tactic most trial lawyers use. Think about it...settle now for $50,000 or go to trial and spend $100,000 defending yourself. Even it you win, you lose! Millions have to be spent by companies to protect themselves from these lawsuits. For instance, I knew of a company that developed a new fishing lure. It was brought to the innovator's attention that he should have a warning label on the box warning people that fishing lures should not be placed in a human mouth. He had the look of "you got to be freakin' kidding?". What happened? He and the company had to spend $25,000 in addtional packaging changes warning idiot low-lifes NOT to put a freakin' fishing lure and hook in one's month. Why? Some trial attorney would have gotten a case from a moran and he would have asked more than $25,000 in damages. So...everytime you hear a "have you benn hurt or injured?" trial attorney commerical, it is because these guys are preying on ANYBODY that have ANY money. It's so easy because it is NEVER your fault, so sue!
I am a veteran California Superior Court expert witness. I have worked on a lot of criminal cases, testified in a few murder trials, and was the principal expert witness for the State during the penalty phase of a high-profile serial killer case. Furthermore, I also worked as an environmental consultant for ten years. Virtually every case that I worked on included extended urinating contests between well-paid lawyers. There are a few good lawyers that serve useful purposes, but in general I think they are the bane of the civilized world. As the old saying goes, "A single small town lawyer will starve to death. Two lawyers in the same small town will make a handsome living." I would not watch CSI or Court TV is you threatened me with a substantial civil lawsuit. I watch the History Channel, Sacramento Kings basketball, and cable news. :mouth:
I agree that all lawyers are evil (except mine). BTW if you ever need a lawyer pay the money and get a good one.
Maybe killers who are executed are immediately reincarnated and come back as evil as ever. Ever thought of that? I'd rather see them rot and die in prison. And yes, I'm willing to pay for that. And no, I'm not a liberal.
I thought that reincarnation is a hindu thing and if that is the case then I would think that the killer would come back as a roach.
Leviticus 24:17, "And if a man takes the life of any human being, he shall surely be put to death." Charlie
Those evil, insensitive, white, rich, KKK, conservatives are at it again. Careful...such hateful teachings and verses get the "left" up in arms.
fine fine.. if you are for the death penalty you dont have to pay to house them for life and if you are against the death penalty then you pay for it. see how many people change their minds in the first year.
Can I still stomp him if he is an ACLU lawyer, after all it would be a freedom of expression issue which is like freedom of speech so how can they complain?
To keep the animals away from us. I prefer slaughter houses to prisons for animals myself. But that is why I wear a smily face button.
But keeping them away from us is not the same thing as punishing. The point of punishment is deterrence. Ideally, the punishment will keep the criminals away from the law-abiding, but the two things aren't identical. If punishment rehabilitates, that's just an added bonus. (Not that I want to give rehabilitation short shrift. I think it should be a goal of any justice system, and all of society benefits.) I don't think the death penalty is much of a deterrent as it currently works. In order for it to deter, I think you'd have to have quick convictions and quick executions. But if you have quick convictions and executions, you open the door for one of the most horrendous miscarriages of justice imaginable: the execution of the innocent. I'm not against the death penalty in principle, but I think it is only effective if you use it quickly for the most obviously open-and-shut, irrefutable cases. I wonder what percentage of death penalty cases are like that?
