It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center.

It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept. 9, 2003, "those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence," recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. "It was a spiritual moment for everybody there."

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the "hair on my neck stood up." "It had a big meaning to it for all of us," he said. "They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back."

The ship's motto? "Never Forget"

great, this was EVIDENCE, and they completely destroyed it!! I suppose you do not see the irony there. The people who destroyed the buildings are using the scrap to bring about more destruction.

 

Guess it was a bit of a problem storing the stuff in the NYPD evidence room.
Glad to see some good use was made of the wreckage, rather than ending up in some landfill.

George Bush is not intelligent enough direct such attacks. Anybody with knowledge of people in USA government knows really R. Cheney and C. Rice are running your country. Even Bush daughters think he not bright.

Anyway, I didn't actually intend to inerfere with your alls patriotic thread. Making a warship out of the towers is a pretty cool idea.

 

Sorry, I shouldn't have used the label "liberal". It seemed more like "conspiracy theorist" which is usually associated with liberal-thinking ideas.

Wonder if we could borrow it as we seem to have emasculated our Royal Navy along with our Army & Air Force. At least you guy's understand the meaning of having a armed forces.

Steve I've heard in some circles about plans to actually combine (Military Forces) into one Super-Force under one command (perhaps NATO) if the Global War on Terror expands in the coming years like it seems to be doing. Poland, Australia, UK, USA, Denmark, Canada, Israel, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, etc., all wearing the same uniform and performing one mission. The language differences would have to be ironed out, but that would be easy enough
