Unions are not for the People Stu any more than owners of corporations are both serve minority interests "Themselfs" once upon a time yes Unions were formed to try to get a even break for the working person but now they themselfs have grown into large buisnesses inthemselfs, in the same way a corporation owes oyelty only to it's shareholders

    Tom,

Your incessant blaming of republicans for the corporate rape of America is getting very old. When are you going to wake up and realize that it is not a political affiliation that you are against. The rich people of this country are the ones that you are blaming. There are just as many rich democrats as there are republicans.

Do you think that rich democrats don't own stocks? By pledging your support of the democrats in an effort to negate the effect of the republicans, you are only perpetuating the philosophy that the "rich get richer." Somewhere along the way, the democrats got you to believe that they care about you. They don't! They care about the same thing the republicans do, MONEY!

Stop blaming the republicans for your lot in life, they are not the enemy. If it makes you feel better, you can blame the rich. When that doesn't work, feel free to employ this philosophy "if you can't beat em, join em." Stop whining, get off your butt, start a business, work really hard, and build your own fortune. Become and entrepreneur, it is your only salvation. Your other option is to lead a bitter and petty existence.

So become a rapist, join in on the rape, or lead a bitter, petty existence. I'll pass on the "business" option..thanks anyway. I'll do what I need to do to support my family, but I'll hope you can understand if I'd rather not join in on "the fun". I have enough. I have my family, their health, and mine. I don't need "more". I already have to spend my days being exploited by corporate America and their primarily republican mental patients. I don't want to have to spend eternity with them in Hell too.

The whole system is and has been corrupt for quite come time now. That includes democrats.
But IMHO..republicans have taken it to a whole new level since around 2001.

    Tom,

I really think that if you personally experience the trials and tribulations of entrepreneurship, you will change your current opinion of entrepreneurs. I agree that there is serious corruption within the corporate arena, but I blame the banking institutions and politicians just as much as the corporate elite. Availing yourself of the opportunity to become a small business owner is not the same as joining the rapists. And choosing to be exploited by the corporate elite instead of taking control of your own life does not make you a martyr, but it does make you petty.

Not all industries are socially repugnant either. The tobacco industry, the gun lobby, the pharma industry, the insurance industry come to mind when I think about entire sectors raping this country purely for profit. I'm sure my list isn't even a fraction of incorporated scum out there but then there are socially responsible industries as well. Look at what the Gates give away every year to both national and international organizations through their foundation. Look at the outspoken Warren Buffett who isn't afraid to call out the unfair tax burden of the middle class even as the second richest guy on the planet.
The point is that there are socially responsible people in the world of business. The problem is that there are far too few of them.

I guess it's a "half full/half empty" thing. It's been my experience that the bad actors, in the business world, are the exception & not the rule and that is regardless of the industry. The truth is, the bad guys just don't tend to have staying power. If they are criminal, the law catches up to them. If they are terrible to work for, the word gets out & finding labor becomes a challenge. In the end the good guys usually win.

Hey boys and girls wasn't this thread about "Liberal Icon John Edwards"?

It's been reported by the National Enquirer that he has proposed to the mother of his "love child" while still being married!

Just Google "John Edwards Proposes" and you'll get all sorts of hits. Twist and quote as you feel on this one.

I couldn't care less actually. Scum is scum and he ain't no Icon of mine.

I think the truth of the situation is that the good ones don't stand out as much as the bad ones. Look how long Bernie Madoff was able to scam so many people for so long. Look at how Enron colapsed after cooking their books for years affecting thousands of people. Look at Authur Anderson helping companies to cook their books. I think many of these people do get caught eventually but because regulation is so lax, they get away with it long enough to adversely affect thousands of lives. Granted, these people are no longer doing business, the damage is done. Better regulation would have prevent much of this from happening in the first place.
