Man, Tom. Do you really have no hobbies or diversions from the troubles of life? I can't stand golf and don't smoke pot but I certainly have unimportant stuff that I do to better enjoy life. And, no, I don't reallycare who Tiger or Edwards bone. Heck, I don't even care if Tiger lies about it. Nor do I care any more whether Edwards lies about it as he is not an elected official any more. I may think they are immoral jackasses but they can screw up their lives however they want as long as they aren't screwing up mine in the process.
Yeah I do Stu. I get the most enjoyment however out of discovering reality based scenarios or incidences that most of America is either too stupid or too lazy to try and figure out. I find real life and people's ignorance today to be absolutely fascinating. Real life really is much stranger then fiction. Hitting a dimpled ball around piles of grass looking for holes doesn't do much for me, what can I say. (plus it seems to be a corporate favorite past time so I can despise it extra specially) I knit hats on the side when I'm not doing that.
IIRC the story was that Newt served his first wife divorce papers in the hospital just after a surgery for cancer. He married his second wife just a few months later. He was cheating on his second wife during the Lewinsky scandal. Not to excuse Clinton, but what hipocrites they were to go after slick Willy considering Newt's transgressions.
Tom, I don't play golf. I said watching Tiger Woods play golf is a simple pleasure. Witnessing greatness is a simple pleasure IMO. It doesn't matter whether it is sports, music, theater, or any other field. Furthermore, to criticize golf because you categorize it as an activity for the corporate rich (who you hate) is IMO, juvenile. And exactly where did I state that POT was a simple pleasure? My point on that subject is that we are wasting money trying to police the criminalization of it when we could just as easily profit from it's legalization at the same time destroying the criminal enterprise (and associated violence) that accompanies the illegal distribution of drugs.
Juvenile? Perhaps. I can live with that. My point is Tiger and his corporate sponsors, make oodles of cash because he hit's a little white ball with a crooked metal stick, then chases it down and hits it again, and we start the process over again. That's silly. Corporatists, the elite, take great pleasure in this activity. That's also silly. To each his own though right? So now billions of dollars shift around because the man hitting the little white ball around in the grass, engaged in an immoral activity. AWWWW. Like the fat cat coroprate sponsors are so moral. The whole thing is a ridiculous joke, but, typical of our brain dead, elitist controlled society.
That pretty much goes for all of our entertainment industry of which all sports are a part. Movies, music, tv, news, etc. Billions shift around in all those based upon what transgression someone does whether it is Tiger, Michael Phelps, Letterman, Rush, Hugh Grant, whoever. Is it silly? Yep it is when the transgression really is a private matter. And all of the above mentioned arenas of the entertainment industry are elitists and full of corporate tools.
I am not taking about the financial ramifications of Tiger's situation. I am talking about the hypocrisy of the citizens of this nation. Everyone seems incredibly eager to condemn Tiger Woods for his actions related to his personal life. They curse him and his "reprehensible" behavior while enjoying a leisurely dinner only to retire to the sofa after dinner to watch the latest episode of "CHEATERS" on MTV. This whole country has become a bunch of posers, fakes, and PC sissies. They tried to ruin Janet Jackson's career over the nipple incident at the Superbowl halftime show a few years ago. Meanwhile the porn industry is a multi billion dollar per year venture. Am I to believe that none of the Janet haters are porn customers? BTW, many people find golf a fun, relaxing, and rewarding activity. Again, there is nothing inherently wrong with the sport. You have a personal problem with the rich people you identify as the major players of the sport which has biased your opinion.
Well...now it's my turn. I agree with everything in your post. ('cept for golf being a rewarding activity).
Other than the idiots from North Carolina that made him a senator, what other democrats ever elected him to public office? Even while he was a NC senator, he wasn't cheating on his wife that we know of. Unlike the Idaho Republican Larry Craig that keeps getting elected by Republicans after cheating on his wife with other men. Please don't throw stones while you are living in a glass house. The Party of family values ought to look into "The Family" which consists of Republicans in Washington who cheat on their wives and cover for each other. If it makes you feel good to exploit Elizabeth Edwards situation for political gain, I feel sorry for you.
I already said earlier that I could not care less what he does with women or what any other politician does with women (or with men for that matter). If it ain't hurtin' me, I don't care. Screw your videographer. Tap feet with the guy in the next stall. Who cares (as long as I am not the videographer or the guy in the next stall, of course ). But, there is apparently more in that book (and link) than that. Who knows if it is true, though, of course. Just like the book mentioning Sarah Palin recently. Who knows if she is really an idiot. I suspect she is an idiot just as I suspect Edwards was a total elitist fake. But, you don't get a grand jury convened on you just for being an idiot or a total elitist fake. And that has nothing to do with Ms Edwards.
Heck, the entire Dem party thought we was a good choice for VP, didn't they? Good thing the people thought otherwise!
Who here has supported Craig or any other republican found guilty of this sort of behaviour? I think, if you'll actually read before spewing, you'll find these people are roundly booed by all here, reagrdless of party. "Exploit" Elizabeth Edwards? That's really reaching, even for you. We are merely pointing out the hypocrisy of the left with a piece that has become national news.
I sincerely doubt Republicans voted the guy into office in NC or decided he would be the best liberal elite candidate for VP- that credit goes entirely to the Democrats that held (hold?) him in such high esteem!
Honestly, is Edwards really any worse than S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford? Conservatives tend to want to disparage government at every turn because it plays into their agenda of weakening government and gives private industry a free hand to behave as badly as they want without having to worry about the environment, the worker, or any social responsibility whatsoever. I have yet to hear a conservative ever say something positive about any government institution and yet it never seems to prevent them trying to grab the reins of government power by any means possible. Of all the government institutions in this country, it is hard to believe that conservatives can't name any that function well since we seem to have come as far as we have in spite of it's existence. We've fought world wars, built monumental civil engineering projects, created national parks that are the envy of the world and yet no credit can ever be given to the institutions that accomplished these feats. How narrow minded can one group get?
