I do not mean to sound insensitive, or mean, but why is it that we want to help so many other countries out when we have so many problems in the US alone? I understand we want countries backing us, but we need to get a hold of the many problems that the US is having before we help others in need out.
I agree. I did a quick search for some numbers and in 2007, we spent about 42 Billion dollars on direct foreign aid. 13 billion was military aid and the rest was 'economic assistance'. Of course, that doesn't count the money we are spending in Iraq and Afghanistan to 'aid and assist' them in their countries. Nor does it count the 'foreign aid' cost of us having military bases, personnel and equipment stationed all over the world. Add in that stuff and it is probably what? 200 billion? 300 billion? a year.
It is just insane what we spend a year to help others in countries that may never have our backs when we need it. We have so many problems here that need fixed that go by unnoticed because we are too busy helping others that do not even appreciate it.
Fret not. Controlling our environment has long since gone bye bye. We gave up any hope of that when we sold out to the corporate monster. Nothing to do but watch it play out now. They have total control over decency and morality now. They purchased it fair and square while the lemmings stood by and watched. Oh well. But aside from that, we're not anywhere or helping anyone else for any other reason than for ourselves. If we're throwing money at them, you can bet there is an agenda other than the obvious ones. Besides...we're bankrupt already anyway. Plug in the numbers sometime. Combine that with the corporate corruption, "private" entities war mongering, and things like 9/11, and well, the horse has left the barn. Closing the door now is irrelevant.
I agree 100% that the United States of America needs to take care of the United States of America before anybody else. It isn't just the government though, it is the people. While there are plenty of neglected, abused, starving children in the United States, celebrities and others adopt in Asia and Africa just for their 15 seconds. Sure, it is a nice gesture, more than that, it is an incredible thing to do, but considering the circumstances, it isn't right.
Yes I never thought about all the people that are helping. Lets get the US better before we go and help some other countries. there are plenty of children who need homes in the US and we should realize that first!
