I think the posters here are more knowledgable and sophisticated than posters of other sites where I have visited. Try a sports-fan website. Seasoned adults ought to be able to say what they think as long as it doesn't get too abusive or vulgar.

"Can you read Arabic? Did you read an English version of the Koran? There are many translations out there from Arabic-English, and Arabic to other languages. While I have not read the Qu'ran myself, I have spoken to a few moderate Arabs (Bahrainis) who warn of badly translated versions"

Dag-I guess those 911 hijacker blow up as many infidels as you can guys must have read the same versions as I have, Why I bet you the majority of the middle east, north africa, and Indonesia-where killing Christians is considered a virture must have also read the same dag versions.
    Silly publishers.

"Some of the blind anger expressed in this thread"
All that some of us did was mentioned that there is a large organized religious group that wants us to worship allah or be dead.
I guess that is the same logic as protecting ourselves will only anger those who want to kill us.

The last time I read the Koran and I can't tell you the publisher but I have read different copies in the US and in Lebanon and it stated something along the lines that a devot Muslim should try to convert the Christian or Jew but if that Christian or Jew does not accept Allah then they are soulless and do not deserve to live and any Muslim who is still friends with the Christian or Jew after knowing that they rejected the truth is also soulless. Now that is a rough power phasing but I am sure if you picked up a dozen different copies in a dozen different languages you will read pretty much the same thing and this theme only gets worse as you read along for if a person is soulless there is no crime in killing them, rape, etc....

I could go on forever but since you have your mind made up without even spending one day in the middle east or in a mosque or have read the koran yourself then there is no point. I wonder if your friends also told you that it was the zionist or CIA plot to printed those "false versions". After all didn't they also say that about 911.

While this may be true, are you sure that you and the other couple of defenders of the sands of Africa, won't be around to enjoy it.[IMG]

Well, lets just say for example that you are both right...There are both versions of the Koran that preach love and tolerance and yada yada AND there are versions that are no more than manuals for the destruction of western civilization.
As Christians, aren't you obligated to turn the other cheek and love they neighbor or find that you are guilty of being a religious hippocrit? So that all it takes for you to toss your religious beliefs aside is some other religion threatening you. Isn't it really all in God's hands after all as you say?
Is it really any wonder that so many religious folks are seen as phonies by so many other folks that aren't religious?

The Biblical scholar among us has apparently missed a few days of Bible lessons. I know for a fact that Moses imposed a law in Israel known as "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." It is repeated three times in the Torah. The "eye for an eye" maxim is not about harshness; it's about proportional retribution. I for one, feel we should be catching up in this duty.
Just wondered why you responded to this particular post? Could it be that you think of your self as "stupid"? Rember, you said it, I didn't!

You "just wonder" a lot of things old dan. And thank you for pointing out yet another contradiction in a pretty flawed text. The original purpose of my biblical reference was to get some thumper such as you to point out one of the many contradictions; (Sarcasm) Could it be that I think of myself as "stupid"? (Sarcasm) Just in case, (Sarcasm).

The differance is that at least Christians and Jews have made into the 21st Century whereas the "religion of peace" is still stuck in the 10th Century.

If you want to bring up what has happened 1000's of years ago, that is weak. Look what has happened over the last 40 years alone and look who is the religion that is responsible.

Case closed. Logic wins...a blind "can't we all get along mentality" is what will destroy this country. After all, islam has no intention of getting along with anybody. Their teachings are pretty clear. Their past proves it and their actions today are pretty clear to me.

"I" is for Infidel...am I am damn proud of it!

Last but not least...I am tired of hearing about the one or two small groups of Chrisitian or Jewish radicals that are deemed terrorists. The differance is that there are NOT a handful of islamic extremists! There are MILLIONS of them...MILLIONS! There are no small groups, but MILLIONS of them.

So the next time you see those teenage boys bopping and weaving as they are praising allah...take note...they are all potential suicide bombers in training. Did you ever hear what these clerics are "preaching" to them?

    Scary stuff...but VERY real.

Sorry about that Moen-n-groan, I try and not offend you, but you do it to yourself. There is just no getting around it, I guess.
We won't hold it against you, that would'nt be the PC thing to do, now wouldl it?

Midas I wish that there were only millions of them, but if one was to take the "liberal" numbers of how many Muslims are Islamic Extremist, they would say it is only ten percent. Well with close to a billion Muslims in the world that would leave a number of 100 million.

Now if those who have their heads in the sand ever read the Koran they would realize that there is no muslim extremist only muslims following the Koran's teachings, which would leave about 900 million devout muslims who look at us as evil. Remember that they were not born this way but raised with those beliefs. That is why Bush wants to make Iraq a democracy to try to loosen the hold of the Koran over the people there and hope that it would spread into Iran, Saudia Arabria, etc.....That type of thing would take generations to complete.

Freedom of speech and the courage to use that right. Unusual. Most of us have been muted by political correctness and the desire to "just get along".

Where's the data that suggests there are "MILLIONS" of extremists? I'd like to see the research...

"PC" this, "PC" that, blah blah blah. The extreme right can be such hypocrites. They claim it is their right to slam religions, race, women, gays, etc., yet they want laws restricting the use of profanity, using God's name in vain, the accidental boobie slippage on TV, and propose an amendment barring burning of the flag (something I do not condone, but that is a side effect of freedom - sometimes you have to grit your teeth & bear it). Personally, I am against laws & amendments banning any of these things. Private companies & organizations, however, should maintain the right to restrict these things within their jurisdiction.

I had Muslim acquaintances read this thread - and here are some things they said: Christians and Jews are actually protected under Islamic law - this is why they still live in places like Iran and Syria. Muslims also aren't allowed to attack those who do not raise arms against them, so the killing of innocent civilians, children, etc., is against Islam. If what you read suggested otherwise, then yes, you were reading incorrect translations, if you did indeed read the Qu'ran at all.

Also, let's look at how they live. You say that they are all still living in the 10th century, yet the moderate nations like Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, etc. are well into the 21st century. They have everything we have, and then some, thanks to one of the most highly demanded resources on the planet: oil. Did you know that a Kuwaiti citizen gets the equivalent of about $40,000 USD per year for just being a citizen? Kuwait is a very wealthy nation - and they are good investors. When the oil dries up, they will still be banking. Everyone in those countries owns a cellphone, a car, internet access, etc., etc. Nations like Afghanistan, however, do not share our endless resources, and cannot, therefore, establish a working modern society. We enjoy just about every resource imaginable, from oil to gold to lumber to uranium, but these countries have nothing & have to resort to sheep herding & poppy farming to survive. That's why they remain tribal in the remote areas.

You should look up some of the things American Christian conservatives said about the hurricane, and how God sent it to cleanse the sinners in the area, etc.

I will say it again, "PROVE IT". Every poll (Gallop, USA Today) and others support there are millions of islamic people that want us dead. Take 10% of mulsims or a 100 million of a billion islamic people...it is multi millions!!

As your muslim clerics "try to" denouce 9/11 and every act (there are so many!) of islamic terrorism, why is it they state islam is a "religion of peace" with the fingers held behind their back and crossed? I don't believe any of their words until I see ACTIONS.

Religion of Peace??? Prove it with actions not cheap lip service...until the next suicide bomber in a dirty night shirt dies for his allah, I have facts and their actions that support me...what do you have?

Pigs blood on these people!! They never contributed to mankind except a cancer for the rest of the world. (I will give them the arabic numbers of 1 to 9 even though the Romans had to come up with zero)

All this talk has me want to grill pork chops tonight...sounds good to me. Fire up that grill!

GAZA CITY — Palestinians surged triumphantly into demolished Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip early today, torching empty synagogues and firing shots into the air, as the last Israeli soldiers withdrew after 38 years of occupation. ..................

Having evacuated about 8,500 Jewish settlers last month and overseen the razing of their homes, the 3,000 Israeli soldiers moved out before sunrise in convoys of tanks and armored personnel carriers. As they left, calls went out from mosques declaring Gaza's "liberation."

"This is a day of happiness and joy that the Palestinian people have not witnessed for a century," Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said. ........................

Men made their way around the demolished community on bicycle, donkey and foot, scavenging door frames and toilets. Some in the crowd tied the flags of the largest militant groups — green for Hamas, black for Islamic Jihad — around their necks as capes.

"It's ours now, and I had to come out to see it with my own eyes," said Raed Dashan, 29, of Gaza City.

Celebrating Palestinians set fire to the synagogue in Netzarim, and there were reports of similar torchings in Morag and other locations.

Palestinian security forces appeared to have decided not to use force and instead let the celebrations play out, although it was unclear whether they could have held back the crowds if they had wanted to. ......................

I read the rag and this is what I found...you might want to look at your personal copy and see if it agrees:
The Muslim belief system as spelled out by a few, among many, passages from the Quran: "Fight those who do not believe in Allah" (Surat At-Taubah 9:29). "I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, Smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger tips of them" (Quran 8:12). "The unbelievers among the People of the Book and the pagans shall burn forever in the fire of Hell. They are the vilest of all creatures" (Quran 98:1-8). "Fight against those who believe not in Allah, and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (Islam), until they are subdued" (Surat At-Taubah 9:29).

I personally question both your and your acquantances veracity on the subjecct.
