Unbelievable! Just makes your blood boil...and these are people we helped after they were invaded by Iraq!! World Tribune LINK
And last year's tsunami, and the Bam earthquake, were just plate tectonics! Anyways, this is just one person's ramblings, though. I wouldn't blame all of Kuwait. They are the only ME country (except for Israel) that vocally supported our invading Iraq.
Any idiot can say anything ridiculous and get their name in the paper. I feel sorry for people like that, but not as sorry for them as the people affected, and right now, that's more important.
I also remember that some fool in the Middle East said that America caused the tsunami with Nuclear weapons below the sea in order to wipe out more Muslims. When it happens to them is our fault...When it happens to us, it's Allah's doing for their benefit. Propaganda is nothing new.
The mind set of north africa and the middle east is a scary place to ponder and the blindness of the west to it is just as disturbing.
I once read of an radical cure-all for such people..I am under the impression that Hiroshima was the last time the taste of brutality was in everyones mouth. For those whom have the mindset of Radicals will always be among the theives in the night and by day, are little more than blowing dust across their barren land. Though this natural distaster is as devestating as we have ever seen, we remain powerful enough to squash your evil little souls that pretend to worship GOD! May the swift hand of Justice wipe them clean from the Earth!
What Caused Katrina - The German View ? I pulled this article from Deutsche Wella. I see that Germany's Environmental Minister has concluded that (1) gases generated by humans, and not the Sun, are indeed causing irreversible global warming, (2) hurricane Katrina is the direct result of man-made global warming, (3) subsidence and poorly constructed levees had nothing to do with the New Orleans flood, (4) the United States will be responsible for the demise of millions for not signing the Kyoto Treaty, and (5) George Bush will apparently single-handedly destroy the Earth. I wonder if Herr Trittin, the Environmental Minister of a major western nation, indeed has a scientific background? Did the United States deplete Germany's scientific gene pool at the end of WWII? QD Deutsche Wella states that, "As the US grapples to contain the devastation wreaked by Katrina, Germany's Environment Minister, Jürgen Trittin is experiencing a storm of outrage following his suggestion that the US brought the catastrophe on itself." "In an opinion piece in Germany's Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper, the environment minister was quick to point the finger of blame, openly chastising Washington for its refusal to sign the long-debated Kyoto treaty designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions." "The American president has closed his eyes to the economic and human damage that natural catastrophes such as Katrina -- in other words, disasters caused by a lack of climate protection measures -- can visit on his country," Trittin wrote. http://www.dw-world.de/dw/0,1595,266,00.html You don't have to fly all the way to Kuwait to find boundless ignorance and hatred. QD
Of course it would help to know at least a tiny little bit about the context of that comment. But it seems that some people in the US should not be expected to bother when they are on a crusade ... Trittin was asked very specifically by journalists whether he saw a connection between global warming, the Bush administration's attitude towards the Kyoto Protocol, and "natural" disasters such as Katrina. Had he said No, it would have been a contradiction to about anything he has said in the past couple of years. His big mistake IMO was that his comment was focused on that aspect alone - not a single word about the people affected by that disaster. Well, Mr Trittin is quite likely to be out of office after this month's federal elections anyway ... and it seems that quite a few people in the affected area do not blame him but others for how this disaster has been dealt with so far. It was also quite interesting to note how the US government reacted when chancellor Schröder and foreign minister Fischer immediately offered emergency aid. The first reaction was apparently that "we do not need any such help". As many other Europeans, I donated in this case just as I gave for the Asian tsunami relief. But it does feel strange when you hear a spokesperson of the German Red Cross say that they cannot do anything, except for transferring the money to the American Red Cross. Similarly, the Technisches Hilfswerk was ready to help with manpower and equipment - however, they could not do anything as long as they were not allowed into the country ... Christian
Successful political egents generally express themselves in cryptic terms on hot-button issues in an attempt to shield themselves somewhat from direct criticism. Polite people tend to speak with polite and sophisticated terms. However, the real meaning of Herr Tritten's comments are difficult to misinterpret. We have come to expect that sort of stuff from the French. In my opinion, the Kyoto document is political rubbish. The science is about as well-founded as American environmentalists' efforts to "save" the Western Spotted Owl or the ban on chrysotile asbestos in the United States. The United States fell victim to a natural disaster. No more, no less. "But it seems that some people in the US should not be expected to bother when they are on a crusade ..." I submit to you that the Kyoto protocol is indeed a political "crusade", not a viable environmental management plan.
If you want to believe that "boundless ignorance and hatred", as you wrote, are what caused the German government to offer emergency help right away, that is up to you. I just wonder why the comments of one single minister get that kind of attention in parts of the American society while comments and offers from others, including the head of government and the foreign minister, not to mention the emergency and and charity organizations, do not. Also I don't know why it takes everal days to decide whether help offers from outside the US are accepted or not. May well be that the US does not need any emergency help from "outside"; I simply cannot tell. It's just sad that even in such a disaster thinking patterns such as France and Germany are evil could possibly prevail. Hope they don't. Christian
I started this thread because of the Gallop poll that appeared in USA Today after the attacks of 9/11 that stated: "36% of Kuwaitis find the terrorist attacks on New York City's World Trade Center were ''morally justified,'' while 41% have an ''unfavorable'' opinion of the United States." Now...these are coming from people we helped so when I read about the latest coming from our "allies", it just boiled my blood. So when some people state that it is the result of one or two radical clerics that preach a distorted version of the Koran, think again...there are millions of islamic folks out there praising Allah for the hurricane Katrina. Not a couple...but MILLIONS! The religion of peace?? Prove it!!
So by your logic, we shouldn't be in Iraq either because we won't be appreaciated for all our sacrifices by the muslims there either. Midas, we finally agree...I can feel hell cooling off as I write.
That may be fine with you, but my logic tells me that there should not be an Iraq at all. Gone, removed from this earth, with all that goes with it, once and for all times!
God vs The Genie in the lamp I suppose that's why the good Lord decided against giving mere mortals the power to wish away entire countries and the people that populate them. Oh, the infinite wisdom!
JFTR, the government of Kuwait made an aid pledge of half a billion US dollars, to help the regions affected by "Katrina". That is the largest single pledge so far ... Christian
"JFTR, the government of Kuwait made an aid pledge of half a billion US dollars, to help the regions affected by "Katrina". That is the largest single pledge so far ..." Yeah and I could also go on TV and look good by stating that I will pledge a half a billion dollars. Did anyone ever noticed that the governments of Saudia Arabia and Kuwait promised to pay for the cost of the first gulf war. I'm still waiting for them to make good on that one too.
Even if they sweared to Allah, I would never trust them... Never estimate your enemies and the "religion of peace" is by far the biggest enemy of the free world.
Such pledges are pretty much what many governments did half a year ago when it came to helping the tsunami victims in Asia. Nothing wrong about that per se. Of course, what one promises and what one actually does can be two different stories ... Christian
Preventive action is the best recourse to take against an enemy that wants your destruction but our press doesn't even seem to like when we defend ourselves but then again who is to say that our press is still our press since Clinton made it legal for noncitizens to own mass media outlets in this country. It would be interesting to see who the major share holders are.
