Syria is Iraq version 3.0. It doesn't matter how civil a debate we or congress host about how to handle the situation, because no matter how we go into it it'll end the same, a quagmire of unstoppable demise, just like Iraq, and just like Afghanistan. So, what's the point? Kill hundreds of thousands to save thousands? That's brilliantly asinine no matter how one spins it.

Mark the calender....I am in agreement with Mr Nation on this 100% !!!!!!

We were duped into Iraq and we are being duped now. Syrians bomb Syrians so now we should protect Syrians from bombs by bombing them?

BO will be forced into bombing by his handlers, so he must get the Repukes to sign on to this so he can blame them when it goes haywire.....and as usual, they are falling for it.

Orwellian almost.....Remember when they changed enemys every now and then? Thats exactly whats happening now......and 90% of
    America is falling for it.

Everybody here seems to agree that we shouldn't go into Syria. The reasons each of us don't think intervention is a good idea are completely different. The Righties simply hate anything Obama wants to do. They look at his 100% perfect use of military force and think that he isn't a capable military leader. Even the fact that he cleaned up Bushs' messes while executing limited and highly successful military ventures can't convince them that if anyone is going to use our military, it should be a guy with a proven track record. The Lefties remember how Bush/Cheney lied to us to get us into Iraq and how just about every other story told in the recent past to get this country into another war was simply a lie and want no part of this lie from the beginning. Syria has not attacked us nor any of our allies. This is a civil war that will only involve the Syrian themselves if we leave them alone. The human tragedy is undeniable but us killing even more Syrians isn't going to lessen that one bit.

Now congress has given limited approval to Obama to attack Syria. We all own this thing now.

Yaaaa, another endless, pointless war! Maybe Orwell was correct in his predictions after all, just 30 years off. War is peace.....

I like Tracy Chapman's lyrical perspective...

    Love is hate
    War is peace
    No is yes
    And we're all free

It wasn't a presentation, it was a speech and what you and a bunch of Right-wing loons are claiming never happened. It was just another phony email scam sent out by really desperate people. Here is the full speech:

    Here is the phony email:

    IMPORTANT TO KNOW !

So, Secretary of State John Kerry referenced this photograph when making his speech today, trying to drive home how awful the Syrian chemical attack was as he tried to convince us why we should go to war. One problem. The picture isn’t even from Syria. It’s from Iraq in 2003. The photographer, Marco di Lauro, said he nearly “fell off his chair” when he saw it was being used to promote a war in Syria. It’s getting pretty disturbing to see how far our politicians, both Republican and Democrat, are willing to go to drum up support for a war nobody wants. View attachment 1967

John, we know after the fall of Saigon the North Vietnamese used chemical weapons. We know that they wiped out entire Montagu villages with "yellow rain". We know you know you said nothing then. So what changed?

I identify myself as a Tea Party supporter and there's an awful lot of things with which I disagree with the Obama Administration, but I stand four-square behind the President when it comes to how he's handling the Syrian situation.

I agree that we need to take action against Syria, but only after Congress has had a chance to come to agreement on a "way forward". Obama deserves the grief he's getting for running over "We The People", but I hope we can get it out of our system (at least for a while) and seriously consider the issue at hand.

This is not a time for partisan demagoguery.

Kudos again to President Obama for adhering to the constitution on this matter. However it is my hope that good sense prevails in congress and that military action is averted. I have come to realize that good intentions and bad ideas go hand in hand. So, why after two and a half years of civil war has Assad resorted to using chemical weapons, because he is losing. The attacks were in response to recent rebel victories. Chemical weapons are an offensive weapon of last resort. They are unpredictable with the capacity to harm your own troops as much as your enemy's. Yes, it is a tragedy that they are used at all, I am not arguing that. The wiser course of action, as opposed to direct military intervention, would be to support the rebels, logistically, and bring a speedy end to this war. Only then can the removal and destruction of chemical weapons occur. Trying to address the problem via air strikes, holds a high degree of risk. Attacking production facilities does not remove the stock piles and their use. Attacking the stock piles may be affective to a point, but what about the canisters just inside the blast zone, the ones cracked and leaking. Can we guaranty 100% success? The chemical agents released by air strikes may well kill more civilians and be more devastating than anything currently done or planned by Assad. Do you want to take that gamble?
