Obviously most of you know me from posting in general, but here's a little bit about myself: I'm straight-edge (don't drink, smoke, or do any drugs), vegan (I puposefully consume no animal products), 22 and married for 4 years, I have a BA in Linguistics and a BA in English Lit., and when I'm not reading up on anarcho-socialist theory, I vote for the Green Party. I prob. won't be posting too much in this section, but when I do... :mouth:

Welcome. I don't know what anarcho - socialism would be since anarchy [no government] is the opposite of socialism [all government]. It would be interesting if you can explain what it is.

Any perspectives are welcome, just don't expect rational replies. This section is as polarized as the rest of the country and many heels are dug in pretty deeply. If you are Left leaning at all on any issue, put on your wading boots and get ready to slog through the muck. It gets pretty deep down here. Good luck and glad to have one more perspective. :thumb:

Socialism as a political system implies a very involved and active government that is essentially run "by the people." I am not necessarily opposed to this kind of system, but anarcho-socialism is a school of thought also known as libertarian-socialism. When I say anarcho-socialism, I mean a kind of society that does not need Big Brother watching over them; where all different types of people work (and by work, I don't mean working for Starbucks and hating what you do. I mean farming, building, creating) and live together; where all hierarchies (social, political, economic) are done away with; where patriarchy, racism, and all other forms of hate are frowned upon.

Can we as humans evolve to that point? Who knows, but I would like to think that someday we can reach that kind of goal.

And thanks for the welcome. I am more left than you can imagine, but I read everything from Ann Coulter to Ayn Rand to Emma Goldman, so despite all the wading I'll have to do, at least I know I'm no dummy when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Well-read people tend to be thought of as know-it-alls around these parts. I have read all of Ayn Rand's books and find her perspective interesting but pretty dated if not myopic in scope. As far as Ann Coulter goes, what's the point? We have enough Ann Coulter-types right here.

I certainly don't agree with her, but it's still worth knowing where most people with hateful attitudes like that are coming from.

Thanks, Ben. I know even you and I probably won't agree on much, but I got respect for anybody that's not afraid to speak their mind, no matter what their opinion is.

Ha, I know. I've been vegan for almost 5 years, and I've developed a thick skin. I know I should be eating MEAT if I want to be a REAL man, and I've got these massive human canines that are just perfectly designed for tearing through hide, ripping of chunks off RAW flesh, and crunching through thick bone, but I guess I'm too much of a wuss to use 'em right.

Graphic novels were great when I was a kid but now that I'm old, well, not so into them anymore. To be honest, the Dark Knight was one of my favorites.

P & R Commissar LOL Why not Overlord?

My favorite poke at vegans was from the Simpson's. "I'm a level five vegan...I won't even eat anything that casts a shaddow." :mouth:

Occasionally. Grain of the ancients! The cereal I eat in the morning has some in it. My wife is vegan too, and she does most of the cooking, while I do most of the cleaning. We like to make a lot of homestyle meals, like mac-n-cheese (w/ nutritional yeast sauce); seitan-steak and gravy w/ mashed potatoes; collard greens, soysage, and biscuits; lost of Italian dishes. Still, lots of organic stuff and every once in a while we make a dish with more 'exotic' ingredients.

So, wow, two veg. coin-collectors. Who woulda guessed?

    I know. Poor Lisa. :D

My fav. Simpson's related veg. poke was when Lisa originally stopped eating meat, and Homer and Bart do their little song and dance, "You don't win friends with salad! You don't win friends with salad!" Ha, classic.
