Jesse Jackson Jr wants to raise the minimum wage to $10/hr

One of the humorous segments I heard on MSNBC yesterday was the piece with Jesse Jackson, Jr and his demand that the minimum wage be raised to $10/hr.

**did you know BO had promised to have the minimum wage increased to $9.50/hr by 2011? I'm glad he didn't but you can add this to the list of campaign lies he told to get elected.

 

Only a RW'er could cheer for people being poorer and being paid less than a livable wage. And just to clarify, Jackson is talking about a State minimum wage. I just can’t imagine your elation if they bring back debtors prisons. How about indentured servitude? What the heck, why not just abolish the 13th Amendment altogether and bring back slavery. I know that the southern industries got rich using slave labor. Isn’t that enough justification? Money?

Right-Wingers? There ought to be a season on such stupid animals lest they die out entirely by look up during a rainstorm and drowning themselves.

One of the MSNBC panelists made the argument that at the current minimum wage ($7.25) a worker has to work more than 40 hours in order to pay the rent and working more than 40 hrs a week adversely affects their quality of life. I would think anyone who settles for a min wage job & is only willing to work the 40 hrs is already ruining any chance they have for quality of life.

 

I will do JJ, Jr. one better. I say we raise the Minimum Wage to $75.00 per hour. Of course, a hamburger will then cost around $55.00, but that's beside the point. No one will be "poor" any longer if they're making $75.00 per hour. That's how it works... right?... Right?... Isn't that right?

 

Didn't the leader of the Russia just blew off Obama at a summit held here in the USA. Thought Obama said that the world would respect the US more if he was president. Or was he just talking about Kenya and the muslim world.

Everyone would demand more money! An increase to $10/hr would force employers to raise the wages of way more than just minimum wage workers. Then, those making right at the $10/hr level (or a bit more) will expect raises...so on & so on....

 

Exactly! The market should dictate wages, not some artificially created wage structure.

 

But you missed half of the story. When wages go up, products cost more and companies raise their prices. So, by the time you are done, the $10 per hour is only worth $7.25 per hour and here comes JJ, Jr. again.

 

Is not the point that min. wage was mainly meant for non-full time workers mainly high school kids, college students, a high school drop out mother working part time, some senior folk etc.

I would think if Jesse hyme town Jackson, who was very friendly with Syria back in the day, really cared about the people or just whom he considers his people then he would be wanting more skilled and professional job creation to happen so that peope can earn real money.
But lets all yell about min. wage and then want to add more food stamp bennies as well.

 

Last time I checked, minimum wage jobs were for teenagers after school or entry level positions into the job market. The feel good leftys and their feel good ideas have driven teenage unemployment to the highest levels in history.
Since when is " burger flipper" or "taco stuffer" a career?
Jack in the Box Chicken Fajita Pita ( my fav and only fast food I'll eat ) has gone from $4.29 to $6.79 in 3 years for a small size combo. ( oh yea, there is no inflation ) and it cost me double in gas to drive there !!
So glad my kids are not little liberal social suckers looking for a hand out. One is a cop, one is a Navy officer and one is a Nurse. And they are all under 27.

My wife and her dad own and operate a restaurant and between taxes, lawsuits, inflation, and minimum wage hikes, they can barely keep the doors open. It used to be very profitable. Any time minimum wage goes up they have to raise their prices and any time they raise prices it kills their business a little more, not to mention the cost of having new menus printed.

 

Exactly one of the points that I was trying to make but your post detailed it much better.
If the press was objective they should be asking why would people like Jesse Jackson want to raise the min. Wage as if it was an end all instead of wanting to create professional type of jobs from high tech to construction.

The people who yell to raise the min. wage are either just sheep or just have the brains of sheep.

 

The libs want to keep their voting bloc intact. In this case, the libs need to keep the poor poor so they can pretend to ride to their rescue with entitlements, minimum wage increases, etc.
In reality, if they wanted to help people, rather than making living off min wage jobs acceptable & addicting them to gov't handouts they would educate them on how to avoid resigning themselves to minimum wage jobs & ween them off entitlements.
