It has finally dawned on me why this election just "feels" so different!! It's the prevelance of the internet and the new people, new perspectives it brings into the process. I have thought it curious that so many posters ask for links when you make a point but now I get it: That's how they cipher information...on the internet. It makes sense now. In a different post, Gypsy wanted internet links to an argument I was making & was quite taken aback when I infomed her that the argument came from my gut, based on what I heard actually heard the candidates say, not some random ramblings posted on the internet. I realize this is the world we live in but I want to remind you to really listen to what the candidate says...not the websites, not the blogs, not the campaigns...listen to the candidates words & decide for yourself what they mean. Have you heard the phrase "garbage in, garbage out"? Remember: Just because something is posted on the 'net doesn't make it so!! Try watching the candidates when they are being interviewed or as they debate each other then you get a more true sense of who they are.
Well David I ask for links as I live in the UK and dont have access to mainstream US tv all I have is CNN now I could just go with that for my info or I could ask for links to provide me with a larger picture. For example I continualy hear people here claiming Obama will raise tax's for all Americans yet I have been unable to find a single link were he says this? I Have found links were he says he will cut tax's for 95% of the population but how can I make a valid judgment without some sort of proof, I am sorry but your gut instinct is just that a instinct it is not proof or even remotly connected with anything other than you think that. I will assume here that Gypsy wanted to know where you had heard the candidate make the statement (I know I would) as every word they make in public is recorded, Specialy Obamas words after all he has so much media attention. How can we listen to what the candidate actualy says if we can not link to the story?
You have re-inforced my original argument. Obama states he is going to lower taxes for 95% of Americans...you see it on the internet so you believe it. You allow an internet story to cloud common sense (can't link to that). What I haven't seen on the internet (and haven't looked for it quite honestly) is what my mind tells me is impossible!!! First of all, 95% of Americans don't pay taxes...the number I have heard is closer to 80% so I don't understand Obama's math there. Furthermore, how can he deliver tax cuts to so many people & still pay for all of his proposed entitlements? You can probably find 100 websites that confirm the words he has uttered but that doesn't make it so. Putting so much emphasis on the written word of others & not using your brainpower to think issues through for yourself is a powerful tool Obama has capitalized on during this election season. D'orc, you & your wife,,,err, I mean Gypsy have waltzed right into his ruse like so many lemmings.
Well Mr know it all let me give you another revalation my wifes name is Nikki feel a bit silly now do we? And if you can figure it out he was talking about those who do pay tax, I am sure that even you might have figured that one out, yet again you are incabaple of answereing a fairly simple question where exactly has he said he will raise tax for all Americans? Oh and no I heard it in his speach to the Democratic convention. Want to tell me where I am expected to get news from if not the internet or the one US tv channel I have access to You!! I doubt that one.
So, you get 1 US tv channel, you get your information off the internet and you count on links supplied by biased people on a generic forum in order to frame your opinions on a foreign countries political race? You are part of that global citizenry he cherishes, you are willing to believe anything as long as it can be backed up by a "link" and you refuse to think issues through using common sense. You are exactly the type of small-thinking individual Obama is trying to appeal to. How does it feel to be a lab rat?
Yep I count on links supplied by Scottishmoney, Level Headed yourself, Clembo and others LOL all who are biased then there are the world news reports TV and Papers) again all biased (If they disagree with you of course LOL) Oh and you obviously have problems reading as I continualy state I woudnt vote for him but that passes you by, nor have I stated a opinion on the race giving no more creedance to either candidates views I have repeated what I have read and heard from reputable sources (All are a matter of public record) which is more than you manage to do You of course are at all the political meetings and are personaly briefed by both candidates and can read there minds Were exactly is one suppose to get information if not from sources on the web? Is it that I am not American that you have this problem with my been able to refute what you say time and time again, are you perhabs Xenaphobic? You accuse me of been Married to Gypsy (Without any proof) even though it is public knowladge on CT that my Mrs is called Nikki and you fail to apologise for it. Then call me a Moron, Small thinking, Lab Rat because I am capable of reading and listning to a interview and thinking for myself without having to toe a party line LOL You tell me my sources of info are all wrong but wont tell me where you get your info from You accuse me of beliving anything said by Obama, yet I have never said I believe anything he says what I have done is ask that you and others provide links to the other side of the argument? Yet all my posts contain things that he actualy has said, and the same goes for what McCain has said, they are all there on record. You on the other hand are happy to take things out of context, call the man a traitor and a coward
welcome to the present day!! glad to see you made it!! The internet has been a factor for quite some time...does it matter where you get the info? I dont think it matters if you watch two braying jack-asses pound on their chests on the internet or on the TV...they are still two braying jack-asses. Its getting harder and harder to find a news channels that just gives straight news...most of these so called news channels just play a litany of talking head hyper opinionated, self righteous clowns spew hyperbole because they need ratings....LIKE O reilly, no different than putting 4 bloggers in a room and asking them their opinions. Its all the same...opinionated people on TV or the Web. I would agree that one should listen to what the candidates say uncensored and undiluted. Good luck though unless you are traveling around with them and can see them live. So to say you should watch them Live, on TV, or you tube is pointless...if you can find the candidates words unfiltered, not taken out of context, with no moronic commentary, that's what you need regardless of where you find it.. I have found both sides, as usual, fall far short and are the same damn crap. Partisan, more interested in winning some competition than being an outstanding public servant...same old crap. Its just this time you have an old, stiff, corrupt white dude and his female evangelical VP...and a black dude who has spent more time in office running for the next office than doing anything of note. Cant wait to throw my vote away again this year, its not like my state wont be going to McCain so even if I dont vote McCain he will still get my vote...great system we have .
Don't count me biased, I get my news from CNN, BBC, CBC. Often I believe the BBC is less biased with non-British stuff than say CNN is with American stuff. Same for CBC, Canadian Broadcasting. I can also watch Canal1(France) and Novosti(Russia) if I wanted to watch them at odd times, like 0300 in the morning.
I think I should have my wife sign in, just to stir the pot up a bit. Gees, an' you think I hae opin? Watch out
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that people are simply putting too much emphasis on things they read on the internet and not enough on their own common sense. C'mon, political campaigns being waged on Facebook & Myspace?
I see nothing wrong with the internet as a tool for disseminating information concerning anything, including political propaganda. I guess I am wondering what the difference is. You get it through TV, Radio, Internet or from the partisan official talking points...its all the same. I like the fact that anyone can express an opinion on the internet...better than the TV and Radio stations deciding whose opinions matters...they havent done very well IMO. One could easily say that people put too much emphasis on what they hear on radio and TV or the biased books these people read...or they simply get it from the horses mouth and believe it. You have the same crap being spewed on those bickering talking head shows that you get on the internet, just more of it because anyone and everyone can spew here. On the whole, I tend to try to get the most unbiased news sources I can find...just the facts...problem is, because people are so partisan its hard to get to the facts sometimes because its often relative to an agenda. Look at the issue of Global Warming...so few people seem to just want to find the objective truth...more often they are looking for 'facts' to back up thier agenda...as I go out to look for cold hard facts about it...I get huge amounts of information supporting both sides of the argument...its frustrating....both side insist they are correct. Both sides will report different versions of so called 'facts'. Honest, non-partisan, straight forward news and information that is unbiased by partisan agenda is dead...dont know if it ever existed in the first place.
