It's now February 5th in California...

Should February 5th be National Presidential Primary day? It seems California has passed a law changing the date their Presidential Primary is held to this early date. Why not have every state in the nation hold it's primary on this day?

The answer might be that the voters might not be able to get to the polls in such states as South Dakota because of snow drifts.
A better question is: Why have primaries at all? Let them all run and the total population that votes decide.
