Tell that to the young people in uniform that are fighting and dying as we speak. We ARE engaged in a bloody, terrible war with men, women and children dying everyday. I don't think things are better than they have ever been.

Korea and Viet Nam were much much worse. You have to keep in mind that the US is fighting in Iraq by choice, not out of necessity. We can leave whenever we want to.

 

It's too bad Bush doesn't want to. Your right about 'Nam being worse, at least there is no DMZ in Iraq. Wait! Yes there is: the civilians are now a DMZ.
"General, there are 500 insurgents in these 3 apartments here. Should I order an airstrike there?"
"No, we wouldn't want to hurt any precious civilians that might be living there."
The next day...
"Sir, those 500 insurgents just attacked our men and killed 35 soldiers"
"!@##$@. How does President Bush expect us to win this war when we don't have enough bulletproof armor and equipment?"

 

To win a war one must be brutal to our enemies.
To win a peace one must show compassion and no longer consider enemies as foes.
I think we are trying to win a peace before we won the war.

As for my comment on nuclear world war III.
The US would not even have to be in it or Russia to start.
India is struck by Pakistan, they must strike back.
Other muslim nations take sides against India.
Israel is struck by Iran, they must strike back.
Other muslim nations take sides against Israel.
That is just a glimse.
Meanwhile we have a North Korea and Pakistan that is shopping nuclear arms and the missle systems to deliver them to the Saudis.

As for the cold war threat, Russia had the majority of their missles pointed at China.
They never considered us as a direct threat and we just fought each other for political regional power using proxy nations
like Angola for one.
The only time we almost came to direct conflict was with Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev.
Both we removed from power because of it. Both were considered fools and to dangerous to remain in power by both sides.

 

lets hope it stays that way.

That's the best hypothetical reason I've seen to support the idea of getting the US out of the Middle East. Here's to hoping against hope that we just sit that one out. It isn't our fight.

 

Well I don't have it on earth and I have not accept the fable view of Heaven so I guess I just keep my feet planted until I am feeding a plant.

 

Can't have a nice little post about vets here huh? Compairing Iraq to 'Nam and Korea is irresponsible. As for being in Iraq by choice, tell that to the guys over there. The only person who is making that 'choice', and we all know who that is. Let's see..... who in America has a BIG interest in oil???? Probably someone from Texas.
