Had it been adversarial, it would have fed into the Left’s false narrative about Trump being a bully.

Trump was not “smitten” as you say, but he was a genial host. The same as he is with other communists who are visiting such as Putin or Kim Jong Un.

Actually, I think Trump’s niceties toward Madman might have just swayed you and others like you into liking Trump just a wee bit more. Which may have been his entire goal all along.

I mean, maybe if Mamdani had given an inch of ground. He got to stand in the oval office, re-declare he was a democratic socialist, and all Trump could do was beam at him like the he was the son he never had.

It’s about damned time. That idiotic case was brought by a since-disqualified DA over… nothing. When will these people learn that using lawfare against innocent Americans is always going to backfire on them?

I’m glad for President Trump that this kangaroo prosecution is finally over.

Now let’s see if Georgians do the right thing by kicking Fani’s ass to the curb.

What's the deal with the promised parson for Juan Orlando Hernández? I tried going through all the super far right wing news sites to find the spin, but even they seem confused by it. Any of you more versed in right wing media getting a coherent line on it yet?

My guess is that Trump is digging deeper into the details before deciding whether his off-the-cuff statements are on the rights side or the wrong side of the issues.

"I will be granting a Full and Complete Pardon to Former President Juan Orlando Hernandez who has been, according to many people that I greatly respect, treated very harshly and unfairly."

"CONGRATULATIONS JUAN ORLANDO HERNANDEZ ON YOUR UPCOMING PARDON"

    he was not very ambiguous

Usually, he is not ambiguous when he goes out on a limb like that before giving extended thought to matters. My guess is someone he respects got in his ear, and he made a statement he may later retract.

Heck, for all you and I know, it's even possible that this guy Hernandez was even less involved than he appeared to be when convicted in court. Who's to say he wasn't steamrolled by an at-the-time liberal-led US Government wanting to install their besties? . . . You (they have certainly demonstrated a penchant for doing so)?

Yeah he's a real loose cannon. Fires from the hip, just what you want in a leader /s

Yes, he seems to lack some object permanence and frequently says things the last person he talked to told him. I saw this as an explanation for why he was so enamored with Mamdani, even going as far as to critisize power companies for greedily hoarding their profits instead of passing savings on to consumers. The problem is Trump forgets about these things the moment someone else enters the room.

    That’s slanted liberal Bullcrap.

Trump frequently softens and sometimes even reverses positions on issues he prematurely opined on. When that occurs, his lack of depth on the subject matter is usually evident, and the expectation that his mind will change is reasonable.

You’ve seen this, and you know this. Your belief that he blows with the wind lacks substance. Once fully informed he makes decisions with conviction, and in the interest of the nation at large.

By the way, he wasn’t / isn’t totally enamored with Mamdani . . . He was just glad to have unexpected common ground on which to agree, and from which to negotiate.

    Keep drinking it up.

By the way, still no explanation as to why he is promising to pardon Hernandez. Do you think he forgets that he was President when the federal investigation really kicked off (2019)? Is Trump accusing himself of treating Hernandez unfairly?

I will . . . the truth never hurt anybody.

Like most, I lack depth of knowledge of the details of the case. We all know that the Biden era agencies habitually abused the truth in favor of the liberal political agenda, and if they were at odds with Hernandez’ politics, I would never put it past them to create some evidence, suppress other evidence, and push through a conviction to seat a favored politician in the Honduran presidency.

Furthermore, pre-supposing that Hernandez was somehow involved, If Trump does indeed pardon Hernandez, has it not occurred to you that it was the sentence, and not the investigation / conviction that Trump considers unjust? No, of course not . . . Perish that thought!

At this point, it seems you'd instinctively trust him to be making the right call if he pardoned Dennis Rader without explanation.

As a side note, one of the worst things Trump has done with his time in office is given half the country a whiny victim complex. "Whaaaa whaaa, liberal media made me spill my juice, unfair unfair"

    Give me a break

According to Google AI, Hernandez was under federal investigation long before 2019 . . . In fact, it appears he was first targeted during the Obama years. See below:

    AI Overview

Juan Orlando Hernández was a target of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) investigation into large-scale drug trafficking and money laundering activities, which was ongoing in 2015. This investigation began as early as 2013.

Details of the Investigation and Case
    • Investigation Unsealed: In May 2019, U.S. federal court documents from a 2015 filing were unsealed, revealing that Hernández and his sister, Hilda, were among several individuals being investigated by the DEA. The 2015 document was an application to compel tech companies to provide email header information for accounts believed to be associated with those under investigation, including Hernández.
    • Allegations: Prosecutors alleged that Hernández accepted millions of dollars in bribes from drug traffickers, including notorious figures like Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, to protect them and facilitate the movement of hundreds of tons of cocaine through Honduras to the United States. In return, he allegedly provided protection and used state institutions, including the national police and military, to aid the trafficking operations.
    • Denials: Throughout the investigation and trial, Hernández maintained his innocence, claiming the accusations were a vendetta by drug traffickers he had pursued during his time in office.
    • Later Developments:
      • Brother's Conviction: His brother, Juan Antonio "Tony" Hernández, a former Honduran congressman, was convicted of drug trafficking in the U.S. in 2019 and sentenced to life in prison in 2021.
      • Extradition and Trial: After his presidential term ended in January 2022, the U.S. requested his extradition. He was arrested in February 2022 and extradited in April 2022 to face charges in the Southern District of New York.
      • Conviction and Sentencing: Hernández was found guilty of drug trafficking and firearms offenses by a U.S. jury on March 8, 2024. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison on June 26, 2024.
This hardly implies that Trump pitted the DEA and DOJ against the man he contemplates pardoning.
