They're just quoting the intel reports out of the U.S. and Israel that have been saying Iran's nuclear weapons are right around the corner for decades.
I don’t see any use in arguing which nation may hold the moral high ground here. This is an age of confused morals so it is a dead end street. I was serving when the Ayatollahs took control of Iran and women were suddenly forbidden to wear skirts and being gay became a death sentence. Since that day in the mid 1970’s Iran has had one mission. Defeat the great satan and all the death and destruction in the Middle East since that time has been an extension of that ideology…… No, I won’t argue the morale high ground. History will bear that out.
I think I've been pretty explicitly saying neither has moral high ground here. I will say this time Israel struck first, but that's a bit moot given the long history.
. . . and Russian collusion, and the purported Hunter Biden laptop, and the credible Steele Dossiere, and, and, and . . .
When someone says their going to punch you in the face, it's okay to turn the other cheek. When they say they're going to kill you . . . well now, that's an entirely different thing.
Don't be obtuse. You know they weren't breaking news about Iran's nuclear capabilities, merely summarizing the crying wolf intel reports over the years.
It's all just pretext for their aggression. Do you think it's it some crazy coincidence that Trump was supposed to have nuclear talks with Iran right before this happened? How exactly does assassinating one of Iran's nuclear negotiators, Ali Shamkhani, protect peace in the region?
Bullcrap . . . How many times over the years has Iranian progress toward the bomb been retarded by relocation of discovered refineries, computer viruses, assassinations, bombing? The Atlantic's story is politically motivated, and disingenuous, and they know it all to damn well.
You're a little behind the times. Trump was already in nuclear talks with Ali Shamkhani, aimed at replacing the original deal. Focused on Iran's nuclear program and uranium enrichment levels, lifting of sanctions was on the table in exchange for increased monitoring and an arrangement for the U.S. to buy Iranian uranium. Do you think it's a coincidence that Israel waited and watched through 5 meetings between the Trump Administration and Iran these past few months to see if progress truly could be made? Do you think it's a coincidence that Israel waited until the IAEA declared Iran in breach of non-proliferation obligations before moving ahead with their attack? Every time sanctions against Iran get dialed back, the money goes directly into more nuclear proliferation. When it comes to half of the story you are a quick study. Unfortunately, when it comes to the big picture, you are not.
Tigers do not change their stripes. Iran will continue to break nuclear cessation agreements with impunity, and more actions will be needed to keep them in check.
You don't think if the Japanese knew what Oppenheimer was working towards that they wouldn't have pulled out all the stops to assassinate him?
Sure . . . Keep picking off the old guard of the Iranian nuclear development machinery and, after awhile, all that’s left are those who would willingly surrender it.
Pretty insightful to know these people will turn their head at that..... Myself, I would have been extremely outraged if some crackpot made an attempt on Obama or Biden's life. And I loathe them both as deeply as these people dislike Trump. As I recall there wasn't any outrage at the loss of the two young Israelis a few weeks back. Nor was there any outrage at the taking of the insurance CEO's life..... But to assassinate an enemy general? Boy that's over the line!..... Tells me all I need to know.
Me and my dog are in tears watching this. I spent a brief portion of my Army years in the color guard and there is just nothing that compares…..
