Nonsense. We lost a military facallty and listening post in Turkey. not at all absolete and which was an ENORMOUS advantage to the Russians who maintained a military presssense and established the right to arm Cuba in the UN...

Its jibberish and not a history book written in the last 20 years has considered the Missile Crissis anything other than a collasal blunder.

The remove of Missiles for Turkey was an enormously strategic setback and is the only example of the US ever retreating missiles from any geopolitical location in the history of the Cold War and even post Cold-War due to the threat of armed conflict.

The whole long episode from the Bay of Pigs to the Missile crisis tore apart the 150 year old Monroe Doctrine. It was one screw up after the next.

Ruben if you read into it, you will see that the base in Turkey was housing out of date missiles, and that the US was allready in the process of looking for somewere else as the political climate in Turkey had changed.
The fact that the Russians were publicly shown to be withdrawing missiles was a big medi coup for the US. Dont forget that the removal of the missiles from Turkey was kept quiet the ones from Cuba went with a media frenzy, who do you think profited from this?

 

Clearly the Soviets did. They clamering to have the Turkish missiles removed since 1961 and put the missles in Cuba in response to the Turkish missile placements. Who lost, nearly EVERYONE because JFK was a reckless liberal ideologue who took the world down to the last second to Nuclear Armageddon all for the lack of assertive action in Cuba years earlier.

Uh - the Cuban missile crisis was the downfall of Nikita Khrushchev. Kennedy stayed in power until the CIA or KGB knocked him off. Khrushchev was quietly shuffled out of the Kremlin and forcibly retired to his Dacha.

The Soviets were no more clamoring about the Jupiter missiles in Turkey than the USA was when Khrushchev claimed to have a 100 megaton atom bomb in Berlin in 1961.

What did irk the Soviets was the U2 shoot down over Ekaterinburg(then Sverdlovsk) in 1960, this was the era of the show trial for Francis Gary Powers, his imprisonment, then exchange for Rudolf Abel on a German bridge in 1962.

This was also the era of the building of the Berlin wall, and all the tensions that it's construction created. There were numerous standoffs betwixt the US Army and the Soviet Army on the motor routes during that time.

 

The military doesnt do domestic work, Einstein. But you can feel free to thank the FBI and your local police if you want.
