Yeah, I think you're right about it being an underactive thyroid. Symptoms of that include weight gain, fatigue, greater sensitivity to cold, constipation and dry hair & skin. I don't know if I would consider any of those a "serious condition", but then again I'm not a doctor. I think if his doctor clears him to run for president (theoretically speaking, of course since he hasn't announced a candidacy) I would find that to be acceptable. The part that I've found a bit troubling is that you seem to be jumping to the conclusion that his weight is due to a "deplorable lack of self-discipline" and a "moral failing". Would you be willing to accept the fact that there might be a medical reason for his weight rendering it beyond his control? Unless you have information about Gov. Christie that you haven't revealed to the rest of us, I think it's hasty to jump to the conclusions you have. I mean, seriously now, should we be prejudiced against anyone without knowing the facts?
I'm kind of being playing around here. I don't really care how fat he is. It's his heart. But if he does have a "condition" then I would hope he'd disclose it. Even with his being a governor people have the right to know. The days when health issues were covered up are or should be long gone.
Assuming that something is wrong with Christie's heart is like assuming that Obama might have a problem with Sickle Cell Anemia (a disease that specifically affects some persons of Sub-Saharan African descent). Has Christie been diagnosed with a heart condition? Not that I know of. Has Obama been diagnosed with SCA? Not that I know of. You're correct in stating that a candidate should reveal any "condition" he or she may have, but since nothing has been revealed (by either Christie or Obama), we will just have to presume that no "condition" exists. Now, if Gov. Christie's doctor discovers anything wrong and informs the governor then, yes, I would hope that he would disclose it to the country (just as I would hope that Obama would). But, all I'm hearing so far are assumptions, presumptions and prejudices.
The phrase 'Seven Deadly Sins' is a part of Roman Catholic folklore and church tradition where some sins which they personally deemed as ruin to spiritual progress, was labled deadly or capital, but this teaching has no foundation in the scriptures. The list consisted of the following: 1. Pride 2. Avarice (Greed) 3. Envy 4. Wrath 5. Lust 6. Gluttony 7. Sloth Refer to number 6 and I believe the man is fat from bribes as well which would be number 2 and 5 for he lusts for power and he do anything for it. See next post.
Gov. Christie's Strange Relationship with Radical Islam IPT News January 19, 2011 New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's nomination of Sohail Mohammed to be a state judge shows the governor's tin ear for radical Islam. Not only did he appoint a longtime terrorist lawyer and adovate of Islamic terrorist activitie to be a judge, but Christie has also turned a blind eye to the activities of one of Mohammed's clients – radical imam Mohammed Qatanani, head of one of New Jersey's largest mosques. Qatanani has a history of Hamas support and was related by marriage to a leading Hamas operative in the West Bank. This fall, Qatanani will return to a New Jersey immigration court, where the Department of Homeland Security is fighting to have him deported. In his initial application for a green card filed in 1999, government lawyers say Qatanani, a suspected murder, has a conviction in an Israeli military court for being a Hamas member and providing support to the terrorist group. Oddly, Christie – a Republican who was then the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, allowing a top lieutenant, Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles McKenna, to testify as a character witness at Qatanani's first immigration trial, and publicly embracing the imam at a Ramadan breakfast at his mosque. Christie later appointed McKenna as New Jersey's head of homeland security. Insert -.(Think about the port access that New Jersey has). As general counsel to the American Muslim Union (AMU), Mohammed often represented clients subject to government allegations concerning terrorists. The AMU often is highly critical of U.S. counter-terrorism efforts.
What you're hearing from me is my just my messing around with the fact that Christie is a great tub of lard. I'm not seriously asserting there is anything wrong with him health-wise. If I were I'd have provided links. I do think it would be rather fun if he got stuck in a bathtub like Taft did.
Yes, yes, yes!!!! You finally got to the point. The Right questioned Obama's smoking purely on the question of health. Is it any different than questioning Christie for his obesity? No different. It took you long enough.
I didn't know about IPT before this and I don't know how credible they are. I like that they've provided links to lots of sources for their position although after a quick skim through I can't say at this point that I 100% agree with all their conclusions. Can't wait to see how our Resident RWers try to whitewash this one. If it had been Obama instead of Christie, well...
In their minds there is a critical difference. Obama is a Nixonian Socialist. Therefore his smoking is a valid issue to jump on while RWer Christie's being seriously overweight isn't. PS for the record I'm not a smoker and I don't dispute the negative health effects and I do think that people who smoke, including Obama, are asking for trouble.
Just to clarify my opinion, I do not think smoking or being fat should disqualify one from being President. And I don't remember anyone here starting a thread asking if smoking should disqualify Obama from being President but it would have probably been 3 years ago so maybe I just forgot if someone actually did. But if someone did think one would be, I would think they would probably believe the other should be too if they were honest about it. Even when one quits smoking or loses weight, the increased risks can last for years or decades beyond what a non-smoker or normal weighted person would experience.
I don't remember if anyone started an entire thread about Obama smoking but I do remember it being brought up as a negative in several threads and certainly in the media. I don't think anyone suggested that smoking should disqualify someone for the office of the president but while weighing the pros and cons of electing someone who smokes vs someone that doesn't and all the health issues that go along with that, it certainly made the list of things to be considered just like obesity should be considered. In fact, the health risks of smoking and obesity aren't all that different. The more you smoke, the greater the health risks. The more you weigh, the greater the health risks as well.
Oh sure, as a voter I would consider things like smoking and obesity. As well as general health and age. But a single issue is probably not going to dissuade me from voting for someone. An 80 year old, fat smoker who has advanced liver disease is probably not going to get my vote...unless they pick a VP I really like but just being a smoker or a fat guy isn't going to preclude my vote.
You right about any website which if I remember correctly a person is suppose to cross reference their information and make sure all of it is not coming from the same source. The guy acts like he is one of the people but he is just another power hungry man who wants to live rich. Keep an eye out for him for the following Presidential election for he likes to use public funds to hop across the nation like a jet setter from the rich and famous so NJ may not be enough for him.
Wait a minute. His being fat wouldn't preclude my voting for him either. There are reasons I wouldn't vote for him but his tonnage is not one of them.
Wait a minute! What about girth? And have you taken into account his gravitational pull? What about hogging several zip codes and at least two area codes? He can be seen from space.
You know that they pull him through the Holland Tunnel every couple of months to clean it out. ( apologies to Joan Rivers or Phyllis Diller I forget which)
