Incredible stuff coming out of the NYTimes

Ben Barnes, describes how he and others in the Reagan circle convinced Iran not to release the hostages until after the election, which they did minutes after Reagan took office.

"What happened next Mr. Barnes has kept secret for nearly 43 years. Mr. Connally took him to 1 Middle Eastern capital after another that summer...to deliver a blunt message to Iran: Don’t release the hostages before the election. Reagan will win & give you a better deal.

Then shortly after returning home, Mr. Barnes said, Mr. Connally reported to William J. Casey, the chairman of Mr. Reagan’s campaign and later director of the Central Intelligence Agency, briefing him about the trip in an airport lounge."

Did all of you who lived through this know it was happening? As I'm reading from others, although not confirmed until now, it appears to have been a bit of an open secret.

I lived through it and was on active duty in the Army at the time. Frankly, I was not politically aware at the time. We saw the hostage crisis play out on the six o’clock news each day so you would have had to be under a rock not to be aware of it and there was no 24 hour news cycle reporting every nuance of a story at the time. After all these years, this is honestly the first time I had heard this. I suppose this goes to show that political jousting is not a recent phenomenon.

I will say that having lived it at the time and being aware of Carters failed attempt at a rescue that when the hostages were released, the overall national feel was that a fresh page had been turned. Carters presidency was not a good one and most folks were glad it was over. We didn’t know anything about Reagan but it felt like a fresh start and the surprise that was the hostage release on Inauguration Day rather set the tone for the next four years to many of us…… I suppose I’m not really surprised about this though.

Gene, I saw this information this morning. Funny how all these folks "find Jesus" and tell stories that they were involved in so that it looks as if they were NOT INVOLVED.

Carter was a good, god-fearing, patriotic, military officer. He should be commended for what he has done for all humanity in the USA as a private citizen.

However, he was booted out of office for his soft , out-of-his-league as a world leader failures, and presiding over horrible times for most americans. This and his democrat-girlie-man weakness as POTUS with very bad dvisors made him considered to be one of the worst POTUS ever! Thankfully, this good man has been reprieved! Now the worst, most inept, greedy and corrupt Red Chinese puppet - Crooked Joe Biden has blown Carter's non-performance away.

So while a crooked patriotic american politician (Trump) who bought off a whore (that does not affect anyone here in the least) is the subject of persecution by the democrats and fake media; the actual TRAITORS OF AMERICA - the Clintons' who took bribes to sell our technology and Uranium to our enemies and Joe Biden who has failed to defend America by opening our country to invasion while destroying our capacity to feed ourselves and provide energy to the world have become the "darlings" of the IGNORANT BOTS that post here.

NOTE TO ALL PL MEMBERS and especially this young little @Joe Nation copy-cat,non-engaging, ignorant member WHO CONTINUES TO IGNORE DIRECT QUESTIONS and moves on.

Now , this is especially for you @GeneWright . Until you grow up, and decide to ACTUALLY PARTICIPATE in this forum you joined by answering direct questions to defentd the crap you post I RECOMMEND YOU REFRAIN FROM STARTING NEW DISCUSSIONS THAT YOU REFUSE/CANNOT DEFEND EITHER. That is the action of a Bot or ignorant little TROLL. So far, you and the two lying, non-engaging posters of mostly nonsense are usless to have in any intelligent group discussion.I don't know anyone alive who can communicate with a head full of soft, unformed crap that has become petrified into crapolite!

So sonny, why doun't you take YOUR FIRST BIG STEP (as was requested over an hour ago) in order to post with your informed elders and prove you belong here as an intelligent poster wishing to exchange ideas among a friends you disagree with.

    Answer these three questions:

Is Joe Biden a liar? (THIS IS EASY)

What does "woke" mean to you? (another EASY ANSWER for our young friend)

You posted previously that in discussions with conservatives that some of your beliefs were changed. I asked you directly to tell all of us two of your beliefs that were changed but you ignored my question. What are they (this should be very easy for you because you can lie - just as the democrats do when they say Republicans want to poison the water, harm children, and kill old people. LOL)

This is no different than what Nixon did in Vietnam. It is chapter one in the Republics' playbook. Sell out your own country to win elections. This party has never had any shame. Win at all costs. Trump is just the natural consequence of this diseased ideology.

Nixon Prolonged Vietnam War for Political Gain—And Johnson Knew About It, Newly Unclassified Tapes Suggest
Nixon ran on a platform that opposed the Vietnam war, but to win the election, he needed the war to continue

In 1968, the Paris Peace talks, intended to put an end to the 13-year-long Vietnam War, failed because an aide working for then-Presidential candidate Richard Nixon convinced the South Vietnamese to walk away from the dealings, says a new report by the BBC’s David Taylor. By the late 1960s Americans had been involved in the Vietnam War for nearly a decade, and the ongoing conflict was an incredibly contentious issue, says PBS:

In 1967, with American troop strength in Vietnam reaching 500,000, protest against U.S. participation in the Vietnam War had grown stronger as growing numbers of Americans questioned whether the U.S. war effort could succeed or was morally justifiable. They took their protests to the streets in peace marches, demonstrations, and acts of civil disobedience. Despite the country’s polarization, the balance of American public opinion was beginning to sway toward “de-escalation” of the war.

Nixon’s Presidental campaign needed the war to continue, since Nixon was running on a platform that opposed the war. The BBC:

Nixon feared a breakthrough at the Paris Peace talks designed to find a negotiated settlement to the Vietnam war, and he knew this would derail his campaign.

… In late October 1968 there were major concessions from Hanoi which promised to allow meaningful talks to get underway in Paris – concessions that would justify Johnson calling for a complete bombing halt of North Vietnam. This was exactly what Nixon feared.

LOL, another post that misses the point. Regan got the hostages back. Carter would have given them a "seal."

So ignorant Joe, how exactly did Regan win the election with a better deal as this "ghost from the past" just desided to tell a "story" just now? I cannot wait to hear how the Vegetable you voted for LEFT ONE OF THE LARGEST AIR BASES IN THE WORLD AND BILLIONS IN NEW MILITARY EQUIPMENT THAT WAS BUILT WITH OUR (you and me) MONEY TO HIS RED CHINESE handlers AGAINST THE ADVICE OF OUR MILITARY and how much they paid him! I'll bet you had no clue. I'll also bet you have no reply.

What's the difference? One is hearsay for the ignorant democrat pawns like youj and your ilk and the other is FACT!

@GeneWright and any other  readers of the NY(dirty rag)Times.

Did you know that the previously Great American Newspaper covered up the Holocaust during WWII and Russia's slaughter of Ukrainians among other things. How can you believe anything published in a democrat rag that pushed the fake news Russia Gate Hoax that they were given Pulitzer Prizes for!

Practically each time something false they report is exposed as a lie, they do not take any responsibility for and cover the correction in the same way they covered their original lie!

It is unfortunate that ignorant folks are taken in by the NYT lies but we have a free press and anyone who knows the entire history of the American press since our founding KNOWS THAT THE PRESS CAN AND DOES LIE!

Therefore, it is up to each American citizen to become informed by relying on all sources of info available to them in order not to be a  stupid, ignorant, non-engaging, propagandist, mouthpiece for enemies of this country!

    Clear ?

You mean like Fox just admitted to? They lied for months and they all knew they were lying but kept lying anyway. THAT is who you believe so your, ah-hum, thoughts on media lying is just so darling. Aren't you cute. Ah, what a good boy.

toughcoins Rarely is the liberal viewpoint tainted by realism

What the article implies is that Carter stood some chance of freeing the hostages.

The fact is, the hostages were captive for 8 months before Reagan's people even began their overtures.

Carter's administration was going nowhere in their efforts, and Reagan's staff moved the needle.

Nonsense. Fox doesn't make corrections and still hasn't admitted on air that they were lying for months on end. Other networks rarely have to make corrections because they check their sources and don't rely on semi-conscious states of time travel as viable sources. Maybe Fox should give that a try instead of pushing lies knowing they are lying and actually communicating with each other about those lies. Only a true believing moron would defend Fox at this point.

Name one leftist news outlet that has corrected their Trump Russia collusion story. It took over a year for them to make a statement about Hunters laptop. You get your news from organizations that base their stories on unnamed sources, individuals with knowledge, or sources close to the…. and if it fits your narrative you never check up. BTW, opinion shows are different than news. Thought I’d share that snippet of knowledge because you have shown how incredibly ignorant you are.

Trump did collude with Russia. Why would they correct anything? Remember, the Trump campaign gave them election data. Does the name Paul Manafort ring any bells?

STATEMENT: U.S. Senate Report Confirms Trump Campaign Colluded With Russia, CAP’s Neera Tanden Says

Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee issued a report finding that the Trump presidential campaign chairman’s interaction with Russian intelligence officials during the 2016 election posed a “grave counterintelligence threat.” In response, Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

This report confirms that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 election. It confirms the worst suspicions about Trump’s relationship with Russia, filling in the holes left in the report from former special counsel Robert Mueller. As Trump excuses Russian President Vladimir Putin placing bounties on U.S. troops and Russia continues to interfere in our democracy to aid Trump’s reelection, this report makes clear that there is no such thing as a coincidence with Trump and Russia.

The report from the Republican-led panel details close political coordination among the Trump campaign, Wikileaks, and Russian intelligence and operatives in 2016. At the most pivotal moment of that campaign, when the Access Hollywood tape revealing President Trump’s confession of a lifetime of sexual assault, Trump’s confidante Roger Stone successfully requested that Russia’s illegally hacked materials be released immediately.

This revelation also explains why President Trump dangled a pardon for Roger Stone for months, why U.S. Attorney General William Barr gave Stone special treatment amidst an open rebellion from U.S. Department of Justice professionals, and why Trump went even further to commute Stone’s sentence as Stone was concealing these facts from federal investigators. Trump lied to law enforcement about his conversations with Stone and needed Stone to keep quiet about it. This raises serious criminal questions for both Trump and Stone to which the next administration should give full scrutiny.

Senate Report: Former Trump Aide Paul Manafort Shared Campaign Info With Russia

President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin attend a joint press conference after a July 2018 meeting

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort passed internal Trump campaign information to a Russian intelligence officer during the 2016 election, a new bipartisan Senate report concludes.

The findings draw a direct line between the president's former campaign chairman and Russian intelligence during the 2016 campaign.

Manafort, who was later convicted for financial fraud crimes, briefed Russian intelligence officer Konstantin Kilimnik on the campaign's polling data and how the Trump campaign sought to beat Hillary Clinton in the presidential election.

Manafort's connection with Kilimnik was a "grave counterintelligence threat," the report reads, adding that it found evidence the Russian intelligence officer may have been linked to the Russian government's efforts to hack and leak Democratic Party emails.

The findings are part of the Senate Intelligence Committee's fifth and final bipartisan report investigating Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election. This volume is primarily focused on counterintelligence threats and the wide range of Russian attempts to influence both the Trump campaign and the election.

The report builds on special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation — and while it was consistent with the Mueller Report, it in fact goes further.
