"JERUSALEM - Israel carried out a successful test of its Arrow missile defense system on Friday, intercepting and destroying a missile similar to Iran's long-range Shahab-3." Yahoo news blur.

It will be interesting to see if the United States allows Israel to sell these missles to India. Usually a nation that creates a weapon with US assistance needs permission to sell the product.

I always thought that firing off a million dollar missile to knock down $500 dollars worth of old volkwagen parts (SCUD) was always a bit exorbitant. But it is was a good morale builder .. just kidding

There is no doubt in my mind that Israel needs that capability, why it's taken 15 years I have no idea. I was under the impression that the U.S. sold them the Patriots even back during Desert Storm.

Little known fact was during Desert Storm that there were US troops in Israel manning patriot missle batterys. It was part of the understanding we had with Israel to keep Israel from doing any take out airstrikes against Iraq. Of course the scuds were fired at Israel and did land in Israel but the little damage and unfortunate loss of life did not add up to the damage that would be done to the US politically as we led the phony UN coalition forces.

Now what I find interesting is, what if Iran launchs a nuke attack at Israel and Israel shots down those missles while they are over Jordan or Iraq. After all it would be in Israels best interests to down the missles as far away from Israel as possible.

It all depends if they arm or not.

Not to diminish the potential importance of this issue, but it just reminds me of the scene from Monty Python's The Holy Grail when the french fire their catapult from inside the castle, and 15 seconds later we see a cow about to land on us.....

Something tells me, the technology is nearly the same.. :)

Now wouldn't it be something if those missles go astray and hit Mecca.

Sorry if my post suggested a secret for it was reported here as well. I just don't remember it being played into a big deal and it might have been something people might have forgotten or not take noticed of. As glaciermi stated, the patriot missles were expensive and not to successful with their task. Bones would know more about it then I. But I seem to recall that Southeast of Isreal a Scud bypassed the patriots and killed alot of good American men.
