Here is a government data chart. If you notice the recorded coldest days far outnumbers warmest in the thousands. Data was based upon thousands of temperature daily recording stations around the nation. Notice how I am not picking one day a year from one of thousands of recordings and make a statement based upon that. 2009/2010 Cold Season National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Climatic Data Center Number of New Maximum Temperature Daily Records MonthRecord ColdestRecord Warmest October 5324 616 November 97 676 December 1090 164 January 1139 209 February 702 55 March 480 536 Note: Data in these tables were obtained from a combination of Cooperative and Automated Surface Stations
Once again you are making the same mistake. Global warming is a global issue and not a regional or state issue. However, lets compare statements from the article you referenced and Then it goes on to say I would also point out that this covered the winter winter at the beginning of 2010 and not the end. Now lets look at State of the Climate National Overview Annual 2010. It plainly states that "In 2010, the contiguous United States (CONUS) average annual temperature of 53.8 degrees F (12.1 degrees C) was 1.0 degrees F (0.6 degrees C) above normal, and was the 23rd warmest year on record." Which means that despite a cold snap in the early part of the year that the temperatures were above normal. So, yes, it was cold during the cold season. However, the entire year was warmer than average. In 2009 we were "Based on data from January through December, the average annual temperature for the contiguous U.S. was 53.1 degrees F (11.7 degrees C), which is 0.3 degrees F (0.2 degrees C) above the 20th Century average." In 2008 we were "Based on data through the end of 2008, the contiguous U.S. experienced a nationally averaged temperature that was the coolest in more than ten years. The average temperature of 53.0°F (11.7°C) was 0.2°F (0.1°C) above the 20th century (1901-2000) mean." What I am trying to get you to understand is that even though some states and regions in the United States may have warmer or colder weather than normal the totality was warm. 2006: annual average temperature was 54.9°F, 2.1°F (1.2°C) above the 20th Century mean and 0.08°F (0.04°C) cooler than 1998. 2007: 10th warmest year on record for the U.S. with a nationally averaged temperature of 54.2°F (12.4°C). This value is 1.4°F (0.8°C) above the 20th century (1901-2000) mean. 2008: 53.0°F (11.7°C) was 0.2°F (0.1°C) above the 20th century (1901-2000) mean 2009: 53.1 degrees F (11.7 degrees C), which is 0.3 degrees F (0.2 degrees C) above the 20th Century average. 2010: 53.8 degrees F (12.1 degrees C) was 1.0 degrees F (0.6 degrees C) above normal, and was the 23rd warmest year on record. 2011: 53.8 degrees F (12.1 degrees C) was 1.0 degree F (0.6 degree C) above the 20th century average, and was the 23rd warmest year on record. BTW. 2011 becoming the 23rd warmest year displaced 2009 tot he 24th warmest year on record. If you actually go read the reports instead of cherry picking supporting data for your preconception you will see the trends in the United States alone. The global temperatures are reflecting the same changes no matter what places like the Heartland Institute and whether or not January 21, 2012 was colder or not.
Please do not take my post hostile but 1. The data I posted from a government weather agency was not cherry picking but rather just the data from the entire United States. 2. The United States is quite large, around third largest nation in the world. 3. Check my numbers for I did it quickly but I have a total of record lows across the United States as being 8,832 compared to record highs across the United States as being 2,253. 4. Any data can be played with. 5. Data is now being collected in places it never was before. 6. Data around the world is being collected in areas that was not collected 83 years ago, nor was it 50 years ago, nor was it 25 years ago. 7. Henceforth data is invalid when being compared for it is actuallly being compared to a different model and the entire global warming trend around the world is invaild since yes it can be the hottest ever but data was only collected in that particular spot for the last few years. 8, If you disagree, please post proof that all of the data collected today is the same amount in the same locations as they did 83 years ago. Again not hostile but everyone should know that when hundreds of billions of dollars are being discussed, stuff is created as stuff disappears.
Sorry, I will never ever believe that "Global Warming" is a result of man's activities. It has been thoroughly proven that activity has far more influence on the weather here on earth than human activities. And to blame it on carbon dioxide is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. This is just a scam to provide an incentive for developing green/renewable technologies. I think that itself is great, I just don't believe the fear tactics the mainstream media play on us.
Oddly enough, I just don't think global warming has changed one iota either way as a result of anything Obama has done policy-wise anyway, but it's sometimes enough just to link Obama to something to convince some people that already don't understand the science, but do have a natural inclination to blame Obama. Not puttin' YOU in that category but there certainly are others no doubt.
Exactly. Glad you saw it. The data I was using was from winter months. I was ignoring the summer months. All data that I have seen regarding global warming has been played with from both sides. Now is the climate changing. Yes, it always does but there are many reasons ranging from solar activity, volcanic above ground and underwater. shifting magnetic poles, etc.. humans are not truly impacting climate. We are however destorying the environment and extincting other life populations by our shear numbers but no one on the left or the right wants to address that.
In the Ukrainian capital of Kiev, temperatures dropped to -22 degrees Celsius (-7.6 degree Fahrenheit) on Wednesday. The cold temperatures have been blamed for at least 31 deaths in the country. « Previous Next » People walk on an ice-covered dam next to frozen Black Sea waters near Bucharest. The Romanian capital saw a low Wednesday of -23 degrees Celsius (-9.4 degrees Fahrenheit).
In Italy, snow blankets the city of Siena on Wednesday. This week is forecast to be Italy's coldest in decades Freshly plowed snow frames a road in Bucharest, Romania, on Friday. For the past week, much of Eastern Europe has been struggling with subzero temperatures and extreme wintry weather. Other parts of Europe, as well as central and western Turkey, have also been affected by the unusually cold weather.
It is a self solving problem to begin with. Only got 100 years of oil reserves left so the problem is going to solved within the next 100 years anyway. Once we run out of oil - carbon emissions from burning oil will stop. You certainly can't put more oil carbon emissions in the atmosphere when there ain't no oil to burn. Based on current emissions what do the models say about the climate 100 years from now? This is peak. This is the point where the atmosphere be at the greatest damage.
Interesting point for those who blame everything on fossil fuels. I tend to think the climate is more based upon solar activity, magnitic poles shifting, magma activity, etc..... What we do have a horrible effect on the planet is the human population explosion and no one from the left or right seems to want to deal with that.
I blame it on the 4-year election cycle. It used to be one year out of four that all that hot-air was spewing... now it seems near-constant.
London (CNN) -- Europe remained gripped by frigid temperatures and snow Friday, with the icy weather closing much of the Danube River to shipping and disrupting travel across the region. Central and Eastern Europe have borne the brunt of the unseasonably bitter weather, which has led to hundreds of deaths and thousands of cases of frostbite and hypothermia. Twenty-two countries have posted warnings for extreme cold temperatures and accumulating snow, CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller said. The big freeze is not likely to end any time soon, Miller said, with the Arctic air forecast to continue spilling deep into Europe, keeping temperatures well below average and allowing the snow to continue to pile higher and higher.
For the second year in a row our area's sled-dog races had to be shortened because of warmer weather and a lack of enough snowfall. Our area used to be very reliable in producing massive amounts of snowfall, an average of 20 feet a year... nearly 40 feet one year in the late 70s. Still, that's local, and subject to cycles of high-snow fall periods and low-snowfall periods. Using our area alone, even for a decade of stats, is insufficient data to determine what's happening with climate on the Earth. One other thing to consider: Cold Arctic air is forced out by warmer air, so yes... it's cold... but over the years it'll be less and less cold as the arctic warms. BUT... The point most of you non-believers make is that "climate change" is a natural cycle and not a human-made issue. My point is that pretending humans have absolutely zero impact is a really dumb argument to make. It's both a natural cycle and human influenced issue.
Across Europe, residents are dealing with an extreme bouts of winter weather. Bosnia's government declared a state of emergency in its capital on Saturday after Sarajevo was paralyzed by snow, and hundreds of people remained trapped in their homes and vehicles throughout the country. In Croatia, authorities in a strip along the Adriatic coast declared emergency measures and urged the army's help in clearing up the snow, which is otherwise very rare in the area. The weeklong cold snap -- Eastern Europe's worst in decades -- has killed at least 176 people, many of them homeless people, especially in countries such as Ukraine. http://www.foxnews.com/world/index.html
