Immigration Rallies

I watched some of the footage of the demonstrations today on TV, and realised something very important: we probably couldn't get one in a hundred of those demonstrators to actually recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Unlike some people around here, I have been a supporter of a pretty open immigration policy - but I now recognise the absolute necessity of shutting the door, at least for a while. We need time to decide what to do with the 11 or 12 million illegals we have here - do we force them out, or allow them to stay? If they stay, however, then they must assimilate - they must drop their old country like a bad habit and become good Americans.

What we see in the demonstrations are a group of people waving Mexican flags, who want to take advantage of us - and then have the unmitigated gall to get upset when we ask them to obey the house rules. This is a symptom of their contempt for America and for Americans. It is time they learned that this is the United States of America, and it belongs to Americans and no one else.

In my view, the ground is shifting in the immigration debate, and woe to the political Party which misreads the attitude of Americans on this issue.:kewl:

 

They are not helping their cause with these demonstrations.

 

Who among us has seen a half million criminals in one spot? If I were in Los Angeles, I would be very worried. The rest of the country ought to be worried. This demonstration provides all the more reason to lock-down the border and start deportations. One-third of the prisoners in California's penal system are illegal alien felons.

What really bothers me is that these alleged lovers of America are probably illegal, therefore criminals. They have little or no regard for American Law. Furthermore, they appear to be mexicans first, and perhaps Americans second, maybe. Arrogant, short-sighted, and opportunistic politicians and greedy business persons have created a monster, and it lives here.

They don't hold massive demonstrations in Mexico very often. People tend to get shot.

 

Why is it that these people want to obey certain laws and disregard others...like our immigration laws.

Well, if it is a "buffet" of laws they want...I personally don't want to pay taxes anymore. That is my 'right', isn't it?

Lanquage, culture, borders...lose one of them and start to watch your country collaspe.

 

I wonder if the latino folks in the southwestern US would actually be happy if the territory was returned to Mexico and they found themselves under the Mexican government again? Most likely, they don't have a clear understanding of what they want or the consequences. That said, I don't think the illegal immigrants who are already here are a big deal. They can probably be ignored, the criminals among them deported as they are arrested, and in time the remainder will be assimilated to the American way of life. It might also be helpful to pass legislation barring people here illegally from utilizing publically funded social welfare programs since they aren't citizens and aren't paying to fund them. They can either take care of themselves or rely on charitable organizations that don't receive public funding. But I think it is critical to get control of the borders so that we know who is coming in, while retaining the option and ability to reject the criminal element, the tuberculosis and other disease carriers, and potential terrorists. Another irony that isn't discussed much is that many of the people who are pro-open borders are also strong advocates for the environmental movement and zero population growth. US Census figures indicated that the US reached zero population growth in the early 1970s and 100% of the population growth since then is due to immigration. So the additional use of natural resources and increased polution since that time is entirely due to a social policy that the environmentalists themselves support. Ironic.

 

I agree, not when they are carrying signs is spanish and had more Mexican then American flags.

They would have fared better if they had their signs in English and only had American flags waving but I guess the organizers of the event could care less about the United States or with becoming Americans.

and let us not forget they are not cheap labor for the nation only for those who they work for.
Why,
many are getting welfare checks as well as their off the books check.
Many are getting food stamps and public housing.
Many have their children in public schools without paying a dime in taxes. Many have free medical insurance, etc..

Nothing cheap about illegal alien labor. Most likely it is very expensive when the full tab is added up.

 

I have come full circle on this issue.
I used to think let them in like we did with the Irish 150 years ago. But this is a different time and we need to be careful about open borders. Most of that evil meth drug comes from Sinaloa and there are some truly bad dudes on the Mexico side of the border involved in the drug trade and human smuggling trade. In cities like Cuidad de Juarez and TJ they kill way more people than what is reported.
That being said the large majority of these folks share our values in regards to hard work and family. Drive through a barrio and most of the houses and yards are well kept. Church and family are important to this population- but the outlaws are ruining it for everyone. As for Chicano culture those guys are not bad they like cars (low riders instead of hot rods) and smoke some marijuana (I may not be well informed here but I do not think meth is big with Chicanos), it is where the Mexican Mafia overlaps with Chicano culture that I have a problem.

 

Glad to see you support LEGAL immigration where people coming into this country need to enter through LEGAL ports of entry.

Language - Culture - Borders...if you don't protect and perserve these values, say goodbye to your country.

 

Ask just about any person anywhere in your country to name all 50 states, name the vice president, the Atty General, and at least 3 members of your Supreme Court, and you will find that not even a lot of you "Americans" know a lot about your own country.

Having taken the immigration exam in your country, I can tell you that legal immigrants know a lot more about your country than a lot of the homegrown people. Frankly, I think you would be better off opening up your borders to legal immigration to hardworking foreigners, and getting rid of your welfare collecting, Jerry Springeresque trailer trash and sending them to "exotic" foreign destinations, like the Arabian gulf, Soviet Central Asia, and benevolent Belarus. 1 for 1 exchange, hardworking foreigners, and your welfare Jerry Springeresque trailer park trash.

This immigration situation, legal and illegal, is a dicey situation in California. I think there should be a "points" system for allowing illegal aliens (undocumented residents) to remain here. Basically, Krasnaya Vityaz has it right IMHO. Here is the essence of the problem in California. There are probably 15,000,000 Mexicans in California, about half are American citizens, half are not. Most of them are either good American citizens or productive Mexican residents. Case in point.

In Placerville, we have a little Mexican cafe that is run by a nice Mexican fellow who works hard and has several employees. His son, who is probably 20, was born here. My wife and I go there all the time, and about half of the customers are probably illegal immigrants. I asked this guy yesterday what he thought of the new effort to sort-out the American immigration problem. He was visibly shaken by this latest Congressional and Administrative effort to address the problem because it is obvious that something will be done. Until now, the only attempts at immigration reform have been fronted by State government. Until now, Mexican lawyers, lobby groups, and millions of resident Mexicans have smashed these immigartion reform attempts to pieces. It's federal now, and Mexicans are not a majority in any other State in the Nation to my knowledge.

The problem is that hard-working Mexicans are dispersed throughout California, not just low-paying grunt jobs, but throughout virtually all levels and types of employment. They run companies and employe others! They pay taxes and produce stuff, lots of stuff. There are Mexican mechanics, engineers, service people, etc., etc. My restaurant guy is one of those people. I suspect that he has been here for at least 20 years. He has been running this succesful business in Placerville for at least five years. His statements, and body language, implied to me that he is an illegal alien. he has morphed into the system without ever becoming a legitimate citizen. Clearly, we want to keep guys like this. How can the government keep guys like this and send home the tens of thousands of convicted felons, active gangsters, and free-loaders?

I would develop a "resident points system" for all prospective American citizens.

The Resident Points System:

1. Resident aliens would be incouraged to read, write, and speak English. (10 points maximum)
2. Four points for each year of gainful employment (40 points maximum)
3. Education points based on academic achievements (10 points maximum)
4. Points for having developed a successful business. (20 points maximum)
5. Good health points (10 points maximum)
6. American history and culture test results (10 points maximum)
7. USA military service (50 points maximum)

Special Non-Revocable Conditions:

1. Convicted felons would be sent back to their country of origin at the discretion of the California Corrections Department. One-third of all current California prison inmates are illegal aliens, and many are too dangerous to release.
2. Suspected alien gangsters would be sent to their country of origin with no questions asked.
3. Alien agitators and rioters would be sent to their country of origin for a cooling-off period.
4. Aliens without gainful employment would be sent home without prejudice.

Earned Points and Entitlements:

Alien residents with fewer than 30 resident points would be deported to their country of origin and eligible for normal immigration.

Alien residents with 30 or more resident points would be allowed to work in the United States with a certified federal worker permit, granted for five years, and revocable for cause. These residents could apply for naturalized USA citizenship and remain in the Country.

Alien residents with more than 50 resident points would be eligible for general welfare, education benefits, and social services. Again, these alien residents would be working under a federal permit and could apply for naturalized USA citizenship.

Alien residents with more than 100 resident points would immediately be granted American citizenship and enjoy all the benefits implioed therein.

In that case let me recant stating that you were anti-americian for that was one of the reasons why I had come to that conculsion. Protecting our borders is a pro-american agenda for every American regardless of being liberal or conservative, democrat or republican, or ethnic background. We want people to come here legally and who want to be Americans. We do not want our southwest to become an extension of Mexico and not for nothing but the high cost of illegal aliens is draining our schools, is over crowding our prisons, and running up the price of every assistance program this nation has.

 

The real problem is NOT immigration, but rather all the people in your country sitting on their lazy posteriors collecting welfare. These same people that have lived in shacks and now trailer parks for eons sponging off of the rest of your society. These people speak some barely intelligible derivative of english, drive 1970's or 1980's automobiles that should have been smelted long ago, collect and illegally sell food stamps to buy their alcohol and drugs and "entertainment", and populate such American cultural icons as the "Jerry Springer" show and Maury Povich etc with their "alternative" lifestyles.

This is a rascist issue, it is about the "brown man" coming up from Mexico and "stealing" jobs from "hardworking" Americans, in reality it is that the Americans rather sit on their voluminous posteriors and eat pork rinds and watch their filth television while some enterprising and industrious latin gentleman opens a Mexican cafe in some little gold country town on US-80 and US-49 and becomes a REAL American.

I say you should keep your Mexicans and get rid of your "white trash" Then you will not have a problem.

That is pretty harsh. I do not know if you know this but alot of mexicans do not have brown skin and a lot of people in this nation with various shades of skin color are against illegal aliens.
Now as for Americans being hostile to mexican cafe's, Mexican food is very popular in this nation and the city of Miami is very popular as well. Cubans, Argentines, and Brazilian Americans have helped rebuild and expand that city with its wonderful skyline of buildings and businesses. By the way, most of the them are also against illegal aliens for it is a drain on the city of Miami's resources.

As for welfare, welfare is a socialist idea that meant well but was abused and instead of helping people get past the tough spots of life became a way of life instead.

Sorry you have such strong feelings against my nation. I am sorry that my national government does not view Chechans as terrorists as a public policy but many Americans who know of it do and you have to admit we did send alot of money your way to try to help with the transition to democracy.

 

You were doing pretty well in the first paragraph and correctly identified a big problem over here. We definitely need more education and a return to an attitude of self-reliance. This applies across the board and not to any particular ethnic sub-division of America. However, in the second paragraph you pretty much identified yourself as a bigot, not much different from any other bigot. It is as ignorant to group all Americans in the lazy category as any other form of racism.

 

Actually I think you need to go back and read my message again, the quoted references are indicative of a sardonic prose to what is being conveyed.

Ah, re read the paragraph please. I am not grouping all Americans as lazy, but those that are languishing of their free will within the comfortable confines of their trailer homes, collecting food stamps, chawffing down pork rinds and drinking cheap beer while watching Jerry Springer and thanking god they haven't had to work a day in their existence while they pumped out 4+ children, no idea who the father might be, so many possibilities.

You see, the media there is very free, and available everywhere so everybody around the world knows about the good, the bad, and the ugly.

 

Your assessment of America is not accurate, far too negative. Whereas we have losers, so does every other nation. We probably spend more money trying to correct international wars and social problems than we do on our own losers. Think how many billions of American dollars have been spent trying to protect Europeans from Nazis and Communists. Even Jerry Springer types don't move from village to village slaughtering people that don't look or think like themselves. We also avoid poisoning Presidential candidates.

 

How dare the U.S let their people live like this! We should have followed the successful European communist example on family living. Why feed your children when that money could be spent on a good missle or tank for the next parade.

 

Living in a predominately hispanic area, the truth is that the majority of these aliens have no intention of ever becoming Americans. They are here just long enough to educate themselves and their families, make a nice nest egg (which of course is all sent back home) and then move back and live like kings. Then chances are, like so many others, they sit in the comfort of their nice home in front of their nice computer and badmouth the country that made it all possible for them.

As for Americas "Trailer Trash". The key word you mention is FREE. In the U.S. poor people, even though we may not agree with their lifestyles, are stll given a chance by our Govt. they are recognized as human beings and not just burdains on society. These "trailer Trash" are in every country, every society, past and present but most countries have always tried to hide or worse, get rid of, theirs.

 

Ol'Silver Mexican Americans are often big patriots. Military service is considered patriotic around here and that population engages in military service in a big way. I read somewhere that Mexican Americans have earned more Congressional Medals of Honor than any other group.
