That is why it is hard to pigeon hole the concept of left and right and proclaim the whole country as left or right. Someone can be fiscally liberal and socially conservative. Are they left or right? Same with someone who is fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Is that left or right?

I think a majority of voters in the US are pretty much up for grabs as far as which party they will vote for and I think that has proven true in Presidential elections. At least in my lifetime.

But, that could just be my own bias since I have voted Democrat, Republican and Third Party in presidential elections.

 

Florida banned gay marriage too, I believe.
