Actually, muslims in the United Kingdom are worse than the United States. This is the same recent survery with ALL muslims surveyed together, not those aged 18-29 which have much higher numbers:

13% of All American Muslims (all ages) believe suicide bombings are justified.

24% of All English Muslims (all ages) believe suicide bombings are justified.

35% of All French Muslims (all ages) believe suicide bombings are justified.

13% of All German Muslims (all ages) believe suicide bombings are justified.

25% of All Spainish Muslims (all ages) believe suicide bombings are justified.

Midas I would sugest that you rethink your maths, if 1 in 4 US muslims are pro violence then that is a 25% figure the figure in the UK is lower so things are worse in the US by your reckoning.
Over here we have anti terror laws and have had for many years, for the most part they work and our population dont walk round scared of its shadow. There is nothing wrong with being vigalent but when you start scapgoating anyone who dont look like you or someone who wears a turban you are in seriouse trouble.
By the figures you have printed most Muslims do not support terror. Take away there reason for being, move the troops out of Iraq, quarenteen the place, stop buying oil from the mid east, stop all aid to the mid east, stop all arms shippments to them, cut off all diplomatic and comercial links.

The U.S. has the most integrated population of Muslims in the world. We see less marginalization of the Muslim minority population than just about any other country on the planet. There are bound to be some malcontents and those that feel that their religion is under attack given that we are at war with a Muslim group that claims to represent Islam. How many of the 25% that don't see us as blameless are actually going to commit some radical act of violence in the name of Islam? Not the 25% percent some see and not the 0% others see either. Probably much closer to the 0% I'm sure.

If this realistic look at the Muslim population seems like an apology or appeasement of Muslims to you, you are probably in the group that see 25% of Muslims committing terrorist acts and have no realistic outlook to speak of anyway. If on the other hand, you see the possiblity that some small group of young radicalized American Muslims may try to commit some act of terrorism on this country and you feel we should remain vigilant while not being oblivious to the dangers that could occur, you are in the group that sees closer to 0% of American Muslims as a threat.

Remember, terrorism is always a possibility but overestimating the real threat does two things. First, it makes the tactic of terrorism that much more effective, and secondly, it dilutes resources, focus, attention and gives those that would actually carry out an act of terrorism more cover in which to hide. Don't aid the enemy.

 

You are correct, of course. That is basically the position of representative Ron Paul, republican candidate for president. Over here this sort of approach is considered radical, practically revolutionary. Ron Paul will be demonized by the media for suggesting it until it is practically illegal to admit that you are a supporter of Dr. Paul. Unfortunately, we are at a point where war=patriotism and peace=appeasement. So war it is and war it will be I'm afraid.
